In general, focusing your breathing on the exhale is helpful. If you push enough air out on the exhale, the inhale happens more effortlessly due to negative pressure.

Can i hold my breathe for 5 sets then exhale then hold it for another 5 and exhale again until i finish my 20 sets?
I don't recommend that.
