- Renault keys can prove very difficult to open if you don't know how. This video will show you how to open the key. It takes alot of strength if the key is new, but you need to slide the key apart.

I still cant open it up😢 dont know what to do its my only key. Glad it helped others!
Use a hard plastic object to push de part he says to push, keeping de the other part fixed on a hard surface like a table.hope that helps, take care and don't injure yourself doing that👍
Thanks for the excellent tip, Did you manage to get it open?
Use a pair of curved scissors and put them in the hole and use them to lever it apart. Just worked for me
Old dear next door asked if I could change her key battery. Thanks for the vid......legend 😉👍. Saved me from destroying the very old fob she gave me, bless her.
Well done on helping, we see lots of these keys destroyed and still not open! Easier when you know how :)
I was struggling to open the key, and this video made it completely clear how to do it. Much obliged.
The clever people at Renault didn't make it very clear. But when you know how it's not too bad. Glad it helped :)
Completely agree with you, Arian. That was me as well.. :) Thank you Car Key Man!!
You star!!! I'd never have been able to do this without your vid. And it was so easy to open with your instructions. THANK YOU!!!
Hi, yes this is a proper puzzle if you don't have the instructions! Well made though and once you know how, not too bad to do. Thanks for the feedback :)
Excellent !!! Thanks you for vidéo, very impeccable, thanks thé British man.

That's great Julie :)
Thanks mate. Couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the key apart!
It's a really tricky key to open if you don't know how, glad it helped and thanks fro watching ;)
It was really usefull. I never did it before and I did it without help. At first it was a bit tricky because I stopped pushing before the key broke away fully, but when I realized I kept pushing and I got it. Thank you so much.
Well done, this is a bit tricky and you need strength, so you've done well
Thanks, I'm a young driver and it was really helpful
Great stuff Mateus, really pleased it helped :)
thamk you ...thank you ..thank you been trying to get in to my sod for weekd
Most peope struggle with these, well done :)
Thanks a lot. Very helpful 👍
You're welcome, pleased it helped :)
Hey thank you, helped me opening it, I'm just stuck atm now trying to pop the battery out of that fitting.
Hi Paul, it's quite tight, but it just needs levering out
Thanks, only needed a pair of mole grips to hold the key part while I pushed it off. It was stiff and putting a wide blade screwdriver carefully between the grip and the fob, started to move it and pushed with thumb completed it. A small blade slid under the edge of the battery and twisted gently lifted the battery, the new one just pressed straight in locked it
Thanks Arthur , yes once you get it moving it's not too bad. Glad it helped
I let half the key rest on the edge of the table, and the other half outside. Then I pushed down the key and it opened in an instant. Thanks!
Thank you from Poland 🙂
You're welcome, hope life in Poland is good!
This was super helpful as we were trying to open it wrong! Thank you!
Hi natalie, yes a strange way to undo this key, but glad it helped :)
Excellent video thanks so much for posting. I like the very clear explanation of the engagement lugs before you actually open.
Hi, thanks. Yes this is a bit of an unusual key and the urge is simply to force it apart. Really appreciate your feedback :)
Thank you very much. I didn't break the key with my own method. 😁
That's great, these are a bit frustrating if you don't know how!
Thanks a million... This was worse than a tongue twister which you've made easy.
I know, this key is tricky for us sometimes too, so glad it helped you :)
Thank you! Very clear and helpful little video at a moment of crisis... you can't actually open the tailgate on a Clio unless the central locking remote works. So full marks :-)
Hi Tim, what a stupid idea eh! You just need to get into the boot, a lever under the seat would be a step forward!
Thanks for watching and your feedback :)
Only just realised this today morning 🤦🏾♀️
Thank you!

A question, the battery itself only works with a CR1220??
Yes that's correct Diogo

Hii I just have one question does the key need to be reprogrammed when you change the battery or does it unlock normally just like it did before?? Thank youu.
Normally it’s fine
Hi there how do you program a new key for Renault Clio 2000 module
This type of key needs to be ordered via chassis and coded using diagnostics
👍👍👍🙏thank you so much!
You're welcome Mika, glad it helped you, they can be a bit tricky to open
I followed the instructions you showed here, and was able to change the battery. but unfortunately after i change the battery, i an unable to start the car with that key. I can only unlock the car. When i insert the key , i can see the dashboard light blinking very fast. any hint ?

Thanks!
I have a question hope you can help,
my car key doesn't open the car door if I use it as a normal key (not by pressing the button), I wonder how can I make it open if someday the battery is over and have no chance to change it
Hello. This is a common problem. The back of the lock normally breaks. The door panel needs removing to diagnose the fault. Take the door lock out of the car and see if it works out of the car.
The simplest way to sort it out is with a new door lock.
@@TheCarKeyMan i will try to do what you've told, thank you very much.
Let us know how you get on
I have an aftermarket key fob that just needs a flat head screwdriver to bend open. No sliding action. How do you change the key blank? It doesn't want to go in place on the new fob
Hi, sorry I'm not sure what your fob is like, we don't use them, so haven't seen one
reprogramming needed?
Hi, no not after a key battery change
My renault clio key is like that i have a question, i own a renault clio dci 1500, i can open my doors with the key ( button ) i can start the engine with my keys BUT if i try to open my car by inserting the key in to door ( manually ) e won't work, the key doesn't spin, any idea why?
Hi Alexandra. Ok, so do you mean that the key doesn't turn left or right?
Yes, it works on the ignition ( to start the car ) just fine, but not on the doors, and it scares me because if one day my key batteries run out, i won't be able to unlock the doors.
The usual reason for this is that someone has replaced the ignition, because the original one has gone faulty. Or maybe the door lock has been attacked with a screwdriver and replaced with a random lock. Does the ignition key fit the fuel cap?
Yes, it fits the fuel cap and the ignition to start the car, and the key that i have is like the one on this video, if i click the button it unlocks automatacly, it simply doesn't lock / unlock if i try to stick the key in the section of the doors and try to spin, it doesn't spin... so if 1 day i run out of batteries on my key, i won't be able to open my car.
Ok, it sounds like the lock is broken, or someone put a new one in and lost the key ( this is very common) You just need a key made to it ( a good Auto Locksmith can do this ) or a new lock fitted
This is renault simbol? Whats is code of devise. I can give in aliexpress, but in app 2 vision. I not know.
Hi, sorry I'm not sure
Battery is a 1220 as you can see in the video?
Yes Wim, thanks for the information
Nyckel med solceller
Does the key need reprograming after you replace the batery?
Hello, no, there's no programming needed
@@TheCarKeyMan thanks
my was too tight i used a hammer :D
ouch...
hi I've just changed the battery on mine do I need to reprogrammed it somehow? as the red light is not coming on like yours does in the video. thanks x
Hi, A couple of things. Have you ever seen the key button working? Is it a car you''ve had for a while?
There isn't a separate thing to do after changing the battery, it should just work. Does the button inside the car that does the central locking work?
Hi i am in the exactly same situation. like Emma above. i can not start my car after i change the battery. but i can unlock the car from the kew with the new battery. any tips @The Car Key Man
Hi, any suggestions for when the key won't budge when sliding across?
There is one last way, do you still need help?
@@TheCarKeyMan If you could help me with this, it would be awesome. My fingers almost have blisters from pushing and it is hardly moving (just about half a mm I think)
When you take the old battery out how long do you have to put the new one in how many seconds 👍
Great question....with these keys it shouldn't make a difference, so don't rush
@@TheCarKeyMan ok thx for getting back to me
I hurt under my fingernail while doing this but thanks😂
Oh no! they are so tight, I hope you recover soon! thanks for watching :)
Push against something hard, like the edge of a table: my hands are quite strong but I couldn't exert the pressure enough to split the key on my own.
Changed the battery in my key, same as in the video, car still starts but my central locking doesn't work, can you please help me
Hi Dylan. Did it work before you changed the key battery ?
Once I have changed the battery, do I need to do anything to "re-connect" it to my car? Or will it work immediately? A couple of people I've spoken to recon I need to take it to a garage to change the battery, cause they'll need to re-link to the CPU. Can anyone tell me if this is bollocks or not?
Hi, it should just work ;)
⭐
Thanks for watching :)
Hi, I have changed the battery in my key. However now the immobiliser is not recognising the key and I have a flashing red light on the dash. How do I fix this?
Hello Rayaan, sorry I missed this. Do you still need help?
@@TheCarKeyMan Yes I do, thanks
Car wont unlock after changing a batery(red light blinks when i klick unlock), how to reset the key frequency after i changed it?
Hi, did it work before you touched the battery?
Thank you sir. This key was designed by the Devil himself!
Yes indeed.....thanks for watching :)
Ive got the flashing redlight issue i think the battery is flat as it wont open the doors either. Bloody renault haha. How much are new keys to program in uk?
Hi Dean, do you mean the battery is flat in the key or the car?
@@TheCarKeyMan hiya basically it still works but randomly decides not to. I got in it this morning, solid red light and the van started 1st time. I then went for diesel at the petrol station and when i returned to the van, i inserted the key and... flashing red light so didnt even bother trying to start it. Weirdly i have to lock the doors, unlock them again using the key and if i do this 4 or 5 times the red light eventually recognises my key and solid red light. Its annoying as hell because if im with a customer at work and im sat locking and unlocking my van theyll be wondering what im doing haha. But it sometimes takes 4 or 5 goes before the light finally goes solid red. Id happily take the immobiliser out as its driving me mad.
@@TheCarKeyMan also just to add. I have a spare key but that 1 didnt have a battery so i changed the back part of 1 key fob and added it to the other that has the battery and it still is intermittent which makes me think it wont be the key as neither works 100% of the time. Is there a way to check the chip myself?
@@TheKDRmusic Hi, what year is it? and model

Hi were can i buy the battery please help me
Hi Matilda, are you in the UK?
I almost used an axe. Thanks
Makes you mad if you don't know how with this key!
yet I had to use a vice to push it apart. my key has had a rough life at the edges and did not want to slide by hand.
Or maybe I have something with exaggerated large tools for small jobs when I become emotionally unstable.
Mine won't come off, I've tried a screwdriver but it doesn't work!
Hi Jenni, they really are so tight. There's no other way that I know to open them I'm afraid
Battery cr1220
Thanks, did I forget to mention that?
And how do you actually change the battery?
Hi Ivan, have you got the key open?
I had a big problem with this key I found out I need a replacement
What was the problem?
@@TheCarKeyMan it stop sending a signal to the immobiliser. I learnt if you hold the button when you turned the key it would work. But then one day it stopped altogether. And I was stuck. 😫
Ok so this is really common. The problem is a hairline crack in one of the components on the key. When you hold down the button, it presses the components together to make a connection.
Eventually, it can't take any more! Then it gives up :(
@@TheCarKeyMan they said it would cost loads as well so the company that owned it got me a newer car
