digital: used sony alpha with e-mount and a 24-50mm lens. upgrade to alpha 7 later film: canon AE-1, Nikon FE2. anything under $400 without rust or fungus and a working lightmeter. no upgrade needed. don't get the X100VI or anything other retro looking. It won't be a leica no matter how hard you squint your eyes and you're going to want to change the lens at one point. go for a x-pro1 instead
