The absolute peak for Wings and Paul’s best live singing/bass playing. Best Wings line-up too. This album and the Rockshow blu ray are must-haves.

i have a uk copy of this album, it is a HTM cut [ harry t moss ] who was the top cutting engineer for EMI in the 1960s and 1970s, any albums cut by him are top quality and sound great

As much as i love the album “Venus & Mars” (my second fav Paul solo album with “Ram” as number 1) i cant help but to feel a lot of the V&M songs just sound better live on “Wings Over America”, especially “Rockshow”. It’s almost alot of those song from V&M were made to be played live. I’m really hoping somewhere on RUclips someone would give a comparison analysis “Venus & Mars” vs “Wings Over America” because when you finally hear those songs live, it’s like that’s how they were supposed to sound to begin with. V&M, to me, is what i call a “Paradox” album if I’m using the term right.

You do realize that the internet is full of quotes to the opposite of yours - that no overdubs were made. What I heard is that they recorded every song of every show, mixed them all down, took the best three, remixed them, them did a final mix on the best one and that became the album. Don't doubt it - it still sounds incredible, and back then it was mind blowing compared to what else was out there. I do agree that a lot of these live versions are so much better than the studio versions. Loved the packaging - Macca (and Elton) were really good about including extras like booklets, posters, stickers, etc... before their labels began penny pinching. BTW - that thing on the side of each side of the inner sleeves is the progress of the airplane door opening shown on the album cover. Most probably my fave live album and my vote for best live album ever. My first concert was his first show in Landover, MD at the Capital Centre (May 15, 1976). Forever grateful to Jack for talking me out of getting Bad Company tix in order to get Macca tix.

This is from the wiki page: The live recordings then received studio overdubs during October-November 1976.[5] According to Wings drummer Joe English, "it took forever to get those 'Wings over America' tapes ready for the live album. We had to go into the studio and overdub most of the backing vocals."

Any opinion on "Wings Over Europe" from the recent Wings box set? In my top three McCartney live albums! So so good.

Yes I think that live disc is fantastic. I hope they put it out as a stand alone vinyl release because I think it has some amazing performances.

I recently picked up the vinyl that was re-released this past Spring/Summer that sounds pretty spectacular. I'm far from an expert mind you, but I'd compare the quality to the Beatles 50th Anniversary Remasters that have been released the past several years.

Don't let the sun catch you crying is a Gerry and the Pacemakers song.

The one that Paul does on the live album is actually a different song with the same name. I believe it's a Ray Charles type tune. Worth checking out for sure. By the way I really like the Gerry & The Pacemakers song.

I disagree with you on Macca’s 90’s lineup and Tripping The Live Fantastic - I think it’s his greatest live band, and a great live album, and I’ve seen his current touring band live.
