Lots of people have asked for leather grip recommendations. Fairway is a little pricier but it’s the classic choice and I highly recommend it if you want to try the full experience: amzn.to/473p3Jn
I am new to tennis (at age 73) and am now seeing this video that you posted more than 10 years ago. Your work is "excellent" and I wanted you to know so (if you don't already). It is concise, informative, artistic, and numerous other adjectives that now fail me. Well done... bravo!
You make such a simple task look so artistic. This vid is almost perfect, except for a few parts where you could've gotten closer to the camera. However, best one on youtube currently.
Dear I send this message from Brazil. I have lot of difficulty With the English language Forgive The text Presentation is great, and it helped me a lot Please some help: can you tell me the brand of this cushion grip? Thank you very much Roberto Brazil
Thanks for the video! its the best done still! Have you tried the Head Leather grip? I started using them, and its surprisingly soft and easy to install, its edges seem to be more flexible or something that it helps wrapping around the buttcap part and settle in the position and angle you give it, didnt have to pull too hard to "shape" the grip over this part because of the buttcaps wedge that usually causes me trouble with others. I did try the TW one, dont know what version, but it was also easy, but Im thinking the Head's easier and it feels great as well.
I haven't tried the head leather grip but it sounds good. I have noticed a lot of difference between different brands of leather grip. one of my favorites was by Dunlop, but it doesn't look like they offer that grip anymore. I'll have to try the head. Thanks.
Hey, excuse me! First of all, best replacement grip changing video I have ever seen. That leather grip you used in the video, was it purchased from the Tennis Warehouse?
I'm pretty sure it is cut for right hand wrapping. I've never wrapped for a lefty grip, so I'm afraid I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine you could cut the end for left handed wrapping.
+golem20173 I think if it's just a thin film, it's okay to leave it on. If it's thick enough that it'll affect the shape of the grip once it's wrapped, I'd suggest removing it with alcohol. Just my opinion.
Make sure you're starting on one of the smaller bevels and don't overlap too much. it helps to pull the grip extra tight when you first wrap it around the handle. Good luck.
B.A. Myint I'll be putting on an overgrip - can't play without one. I just wondered what others felt about the stiffness factor but I know it all comes down to each individual. I'll probably just get one and try it.
leather is also heavier, so it can change the balance to a slightly more headlight secured feel when handling the racquet. A more headlight balance helps with maneuverability. It may actually dampen vibrations due to its weight, this is normal in racquet frames(the more dense the material, the less the vibrations travel), but not so sure about grips and if 11g heavier makes a difference here. But You do feel more "in control" of the handle, at least I do. There used to be sold, not sure now, thin rubber material, it actually looks like gum, like soft airhead candies? and that were thin enough to be put under the grip itself and helped absorb vibrations. Some of the thicker synthetics grips have a version of these installed inside or under their replacement grips for that reason. Anyways, you posted this a year ago? did you try the leather? how did it feel to you?
but doesnt that make the grip thicker on one side compared to the other? idk, I also though of doing in one of the diagonal ones just for the reason, it does help, but it feels lopsided when handling one after its done unless the tapered end is actually really slim to not make a difference
Clickbait, having the Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 85 in the thumbnail picture :-q . I'm still playing it. Also the Pro Staff 90 BLX, and the Hyper Hammer 5.3 , hmm i love the green applications. But Dunlop are same nice rackets, i played them also. Revelation Pro 90 , Revelation Pro 95 DP Super, and now the Biomimetic 100. Nice Video.
The "starting position" is wrong. Too much of the plastic butt cap is exposed as well. He also started in the wrong place, so when he "went down the racket", too much of that butt cap was exposed, even more. Also, the camera is out of focus.

Who knew wrapping a grip could be so beautiful *wipes away tears*
Agapē LOL

Thank you, Walter. Glad you enjoyed it. Welcome to the sport!😀🎾

@eleet Thank you for that lovely compliment.I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Very helpful video with awesome background music!
Great finesse. Time and reps makes the leather lay perfectly :)
Great video, specially how to deal with the end of the grip, thanks a lot!
Glad you found it helpful!
👍🙏👍😃
I would have messed up the finishing part without this video, thanks.
Mathieu Comeau Glad it was helpful!

Hi Roberto, check out the link in the description. Good luck!
Where’ve you been all my life?
Thanks for the video! its the best done still!

How often do you replace your leather grip?
Is the leather grip good to add some weight to your raquet? Is it heavier than a normal grip?
Will the raquet be more head light?
Yes, leather is heavier than synthetic and will make the racquet more head light.
Hey, excuse me!
First of all, best replacement grip changing video I have ever seen.
That leather grip you used in the video, was it purchased from the Tennis Warehouse?
Thanks, James. Yes, the grip is from TW. Check out the link in the description.
is TW grip at the beginning cut for right handed wrapping, and if yes in your opinion can it be wrapped for lefties?Thank you
I'm pretty sure it is cut for right hand wrapping. I've never wrapped for a lefty grip, so I'm afraid I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine you could cut the end for left handed wrapping.
On the raqcuet handle, there is always a sticky film, do I have to remove it with alcohol?

+B.A. Myint Thank you
great video
The best video
Thank you!
where did you get the grip?
great video, well shot.
thank you!
thank you, sir. beautiful vid.
blipsnipdrip you're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!
do they have the same feel and no bumps like those from the factory?
generally, they're all smooth, but some are more tacky than others.
+stockton350 sorry said it in the wrong way. I mean does the grip feels like its totally flush? the part that overlaps.
@stockton35 when I install mine, I found that there's always a bump (or bulge) at the bottom of the handle, any suggestion to avoid that?
Make sure you're starting on one of the smaller bevels and don't overlap too much. it helps to pull the grip extra tight when you first wrap it around the handle. Good luck.
Leave the original grip on and use the leather one as an over grip
*slow clap* just beautiful....*tear*.....
Well done!
Is there much difference between a leather and synthetic grip?
I tend to think so. Leather makes the bevels more pronounced and it's less soft, giving more feel for the ball.
stockton350 So with more vibration, would it bad to stick one of these on the likes of a Pure Drive GT due to the stiffness?
Craig Fellows Not sure. I think you'd have to try it and see. If it was too harsh, you could put an overgrip on it to soften the feel a little.

Damn you have golden hands if I were to do it it would be uneven af
SO PERFECT!!!!
glad you liked it!
Why start at the diagonal bevel?
Helps prevent it from slipping.
but doesnt that make the grip thicker on one side compared to the other?
idk, I also though of doing in one of the diagonal ones just for the reason, it does help, but it feels lopsided when handling one after its done unless the tapered end is actually really slim to not make a difference
Can you share the background music??

Tino Wengel classic racquets. I'm also a fan of the head prestige original, Prince graphite mid, and the Prince magnesium. Glad you liked the video.
Not so good. The starting point needs a tack or staple: during hot humid days, it all gets slippy without this base firm contact point.
The "starting position" is wrong. Too much of the plastic butt cap is exposed as well. He also started in the wrong place, so when he "went down the racket", too much of that butt cap was exposed, even more. Also, the camera is out of focus.
I'll report my mistake to the USTA and the Motion Picture Association of America immediately. Thank you.
We're awaiting your leather grip installment tutorial Jason!
horrible camera work
