Finally a real review for macbook pro on 3d work. I've been looking for a video like this. Do you guys think for heavy scenes the macbook m4 pro would be able to handle nicer then an rtx4070 windows laptop?
@@athinasdesigns Thank you 🙌 M4 Pro is very powerful, and I’m sure all the 3d work you do on it will perform perfectly fine, but specially when rendering, the 4070 is faster. I still like all the pros the mac has, like the good battery life, screen, performance per watt.. etc All the youtubers I watch are always testing a few old scenes from blender and saying that 1:30 is very nice, when for a rtx card usually takes like 20 seconds🤣 (and that adds up a lot of time when you need to render 1000 frames 😅)
Is there something strange in the comparison, because your RTX 4080 in the render capture has a memory consumption of 682.90M and in the M3 Pro it is 2785.03M?
@@kepa7983 ummm actually no idea, I know the screenshots are taken the same way, in the same scene, same frames and both had almost every other app closed, so might be that mac os manages memory differently? Or maybe because the memory in the mac is integrated as if it was “vram”, while the pc has to use the “other” memory? No idea but the render times are legit I promise 😅
I am curious how well the MacBook Pro works with higher system memory to allocate to renders or simulations. Everyone does tests that are within the VRAM limit of the desktop Nvidia cards which unintentionally avoids experiencing the value with huge unified memory options for the GPU on the MacBook pros. ie the trade off of price/time for low VRAM GPU. I wonder how much of the time gap is closed (if any?) when the desktop needs more VRAM and has to dip into system memory to do a render(still or frames) or/and simulations?
@@AchakBrooks umm that’s a good idea, I never thought of that… I don’t think speed will improve significantly, but the MacBook would (in theory) be able to support larger scenes without crashing, since it has more VRAM available
@@ArtKoch yes! Tried maya as well and it runs fine, only the animation part is perfectly usable and even more with M4’s, but I’d say It’s important to get extra ram
Hey thanks man! Yes, I setup that scene myself, but unfortunately there are a few objects inside that can only be obtained with the license I bought so I don't think it's allowed, I really don't mind giving the file is just that I don't want any issues 🥲
I am graphic, brand and visual designer exploring blender and cinema 4d for 3d visuals design and small 3d motion design work. I am thinking of buying M4 base model is it practically workable to render scenes and 3d motion design videos on M4?
@@aerodp the m4 base probably will be fine for everything but maybe not enough for rendering, as it only has 1 fan, so will be pretty hot. But I still think the work itself it’s good enough and will work well, but I’d consider a m4 pro if possible 🙌
@JavierEstebanJE I am on a tight budget. I want to build Rtx 4070 super with an i9 or Ryzen 9 processor but with my configuration, it reaches 2000 dollars so right now unable spend that much
@@g-dev7fanny The extra RAM definitely helps manage bigger projects, and it’s still a great machine. A lot of my GPU cores are super useful for smoothness and faster renders, but still if you can render in a desktop you will save a lot of render time haha (for a long animation, stills, or animations with fewer frames, it’s fine tho!)
Hey, thank you! 🙌 If you are asking for the wallpaper on my PC is from Wallpaper Engine on Steam "Lonely Cat: Audio Visualizer, Clock.." and if you are asking for the one on the Mac is from @BasicAppleGuy (basicappleguy.com/basicappleblog/making-waves)

Thanks for the Substance Painter look! Honestly looked surprisingly smooth. Super excited to pick up an M4 here soon.
@@kenzie2191 I know right? It was really smooth to use, thought it would have more issues
Bro, it was fun seeing this but now we have M4 MacBook Pro. That is a beast. It might render faster than the PC
@@elevate4844 I know! But I also know for a fact still does not render faster sadly 😅

i have the same one in space black, its perfect for houdini and blender but it kinda struggles a fair bit in unreal engine 5.5
@@ctrlsyst umm I can imagine, real time engines probably need a little bit more of gpu performance, but I’m glad you enjoy your mac🙌

@ and how about a mac mini m4? It has insanely good price/performance
Do you keep this Mac as your main laptop now ?

have you used metal RT for the render on mac
