Good luck with the repairs. I buy all mine cheap, fix up, use a few years then upgrade, rinse and repeat! My 3pt 9.5' disc mower cuts good but a pain to connect and corners suck. I'm used to a 489 MoCo and corners were never an issue, but the ant hills or gopher mounds sure plugged it up! Glad you're getting some of that rain. It's been going North of us for the last 3 days. Next week I'm going to cut my second cutting before it dries up and falls apart! We're about 12" behind for the year so far on rain. Storms hadn't brought much and the Hurricanes can stay away! Did the El Campo auction last weekend and you would think everything was gold plated. No good deals on anything I needed or wanted.
Thank you. I try to do the same thing by buying cheap and upgrading from there. I’m right there with you on hooking up a 3pt and can’t wait to make the corners with this new machine lol. I’m always watching equipment on auctiontime for deals and never see any. Some how at the last minute the price always jumps up no matter how old or rusted it is. But then again farm equipment is just damn expensive. Hope you get some rain and good luck with second cut!
Great video! I’m shocked at that splined shaft how torn up it was. Glad you found a replacement. Keep the videos coming, I’m learning a lot. The Rain on the metal roof sounds Sooooooo Good! We had about three inches in Buffalo in the last week.
Glad to see you getting a nice cutter. We are getting lots of rain here as well. I thought I could beat the rain so I cut 10acr of Brahmuda. The day I went to bale it downpored on it and rained for 3 days.
Hey Chris looks like you did a good job going over that mower. I think you will have a good machine when your done. Agri-Supply is a pretty good place to get parts. When I lived in GA there was one about an hour from me. Used to see Black buck antelope and Axis deer all the time growing up in TX. They stocked them on Ft. Hood years ago. Great video. Robert
Rdrake1413 Thank you. I’m sure there is something I missed but I will eventually catch it. I’m going back together with it now and it seems to be pretty smooth. I’ll keep you updated
Chris, loctite makes a sleeve/sheeve retaining compound that will keep those shafts from fretting and wearing out, only trouble is you have to heat the parts to get em back apart.
@@CenTexAg I'm not an engineer by any means but be careful, if they're rigid then you might be replacing a snapped shaft. If they wanted that rigid, they would have done a keyway and pressed it together. A 489 Moco, worn out splines, welded yoke to input shaft. Later it broke off at the bearing. It wasn't the heat because the weld wasn't anywhere near that bearing where it snapped. I noticed all my Moco's. balers, and cutters have slip fit shafts in certain places, and pressed on in others.
Hex shaft that runs through all the pods could be worn. Mine was worn the most at the first drive pod that connects to the gear box. Could also be a broken tooth in which ever pod is jumping time
A new hay caddy would have been as much as he paid for the fixed up Vermeer! I just finished pricing them 2 years in a row. I never seen a used one for sale around these parts.
Yes I did and I even considered building one. I went as far as pricing the material out which would have been around $2500. Around here new they are $4000, used $2500 and up. So I thought I could find a used trailed mower for the same price as a caddy and then still have a backup machine.
Hey Chris, seeing that you are the only person who seems to run the work master NH, was wondering if you had an email I could send you a few questions ? I run one on my farm and would be nice to have someone else to compare and trouble shoot with. Thanks - Sam

There is nothing more peaceful working on equipment when it’s raining in that shop. I was surprised also how worn the shaft was. Will do on the videos

The joy of farming gambling with the weather. At least you got some good rain

Thanks Rick I didn’t know that.

What would make the same model jump time

You can't get parts now from vermeer I had to order gearbox good luck buddy
Did you consider buying a hay caddy for your krone versus buying the Vermeer mower?
