and beautifully filmed. i get very frustrated when dancers are filmed with closeups on their faces (or even worse bums etc) when i want to see the dance.
Dear Lauren Cuthbertson, This is me writing you from heaven because I literally just died and went there after watching this marvelous performance. Also, that set of chaines was sublime; your spotting technique was even a wonder to watch(seriously I have never seen such beautiful spotting) ....Anyway, thank you for slaying me in the best possible way!
It's so cool to finally see a video of a dancers feet and the reality of what a dancer must endure. As a ballet dancer myself at one time my feet sustained many injuries and I didn't feel I would dance again either. It's nice to see her recovery and ability to dance through the pain. I must learn how to dance through the pain even though I don't do pointe anymore. I'm inspired to try it again. 😍
this is litterally one of the most beautiful things ive ever seen , the way she dances and moves her feet so elegant and just perfection, and the artistic view is so perfect as well great work
I think subconsciously the audience knows the pain. It's the hope that drives the audience to watch and listen. The hope that we have the ability to overcome the pain (like the dancer on stage) to become a more beautiful human - physically and mentally.
just watched some "Halloween-glam-fashion for art-school-students" on another Nowness vid,and this just came as a very positive break from that. Dont wanna put dance up against fashion, just reconized, that it pleased me more to see some harmonic movement instead of "controversial"fashion. the hungry soul take what it needs! thanx for this one.
It is so hard to equate this incredible hardcore dancer with the sweet and funny Alice from Alice in Wonderland and the lovesick girl in The Two Pigeons!
Beautiful feet, extremely well conditioned 0:42, 0:51. Are all ballerinas' feet like this? What type of ballet? it doesn't look like classical. It would be interesting to learn it. Are there any online classes of this type?
+eastcastle g (eastcastle007) It's contemporary ballet. So basically the technique is the same as classical ballet, but the movements are structured differently. For example not all movements are turned out at the hips, and arm movements are a lot more flexible, whereas classical ballet arm movements all stem from the structured basics of 1st through to 5th position. And about the feet, she has a very high instep, so the bridge of her foot is high and arched. It's aesthetically beautiful, but requires a lot of strengthening to avoid injury.
+alice smithy Ouch-Pouches are basically little foam cut outs that dancers put on their toes during pointe. it's so you don't damage your toes. more professional ballerinas don't use them because they train themselves not to rely on the extra protection, and because they got some strong ass feet. I've only done pointe for three years and I still use them -the studio I attend enforces them because we're beginners. but I do know of some pointe teachers that don't want students using them, again so they don't rely on the extra protection. I find it amazing how this women is able to do all she does without them, only because I can't, but at the same time I know what your toes feel like after going on pointe even with an Ouch-Pouch, so I'm just imagining the pain her feet are in. hope that answered your question :}
Carina stap yes thank you its really interesting, I used to want to be a ballerina as a kid but was never put in lessons but its probably a good job because while I am flexible I am to curvy which I know is not good for ballet, it happened to a friend of mine where her boobs and ass got to big and she was told to quit
+alice smithy the downside to being a professional ballerina is that you have to be tiny. if I wanted to do that, I probably would be let in due to my body shape -boobs and butt- and that happened to a girl at our studio. she tried out for the National Ballet of Canada, and she was told her measurements were too big. Beautiful dancer who teaches at our studio now, but her bust was too big. the world of dance is an interesting place really
its like professional sports. if you realize the damage these ppl are doing to themselves, it becomes a bit hollow, as entertainment. no thanks. i'm not into watching masochists.
+Sandy Grungerson What a stupid, racist and nonsensical comment. You don't even know where Russia is, do you? Yeah, Russia, that EASTERN place where ballet has such deep roots.
So powerful, like wow. I was so drawn in the whole video. The way she danced just captivated me and I couldn't look away.
sorry, that is one of the most beautiful things I have seen..

Bellisimo!!! I don't see how anyone can watch this and not be spellbound. An injury is the worst thing that can happen to a dancer. Glad she healed.
Dang that balance at the end though.
Fuck that dance was beautiful!
This is amazing, I felt every moment within my body, what a fantastic and creative portrayal of the reality of dance.
Simply amazing. You shattered you foot and you have come back with absolute grace. Poetry in motion. Thank you for letting me experience a bit of it.
That was amazing!! Thank you Lauren, I think you're a brilliant dancer!
That was amazing it really felt controlled and there weren't any movements that were out of theme. Beautiful.
Amazing. She is an amazing dancer, and the best Juliet I ever saw.
Loved her strength and control
Marvellous! Seeing her float makes my heart ache in the best possible way.
Ugh I wasn't expecting to tear up.
Beautiful, I’ll definitely be coming back to enjoy this again.
Not only is this amazing and so peaceful, but this song is AMAZING!!!!!! Where can I find it?

I teared up...so beautuful

My goodness... how that body moves! Amazing.
She looks like a swan in the end. Perfect swan. Even swans arent that perfect
Breathtaking
True about the pain part... I do pointe
Gorgeous dancer, choreography, music, filming. So inspiring!
Beautifull and gentle motions like majestic wings of butterfly.
Laura is such a fantastic dancer. I really enjoy watching her. She has superflexibility, amazing feet, perfect placement.

Love it when Nowness does vids on dance!

Wonderful dancer !
Beautiful … where can i find the music ?
This is what I want to achieve in dance.

adoro ballet
Does anyone know what song this is?
I lovin it!!
I need to know which song this is. PLEASE.

I need the music of this video
Excellent!!! i' love modern highlyt sensitive art, not classic on the way to human moving as contemplation. 💭🙏💡💓🎨
Bellissimo!
It is so hard to equate this incredible hardcore dancer with the sweet and funny Alice from Alice in Wonderland and the lovesick girl in The Two Pigeons!
Chills. Lauren's my favourite dancer from now on. Not many people in this world can make the Russian dancers look rigid by comparison. Wow.
my biggest regret with dance is that I didn't start sooner now I'm almost 15 & 184lb I just wish I had started when I was smaller
Who did the music?

technically it's Neo-Classical since she's on a pointe. Contemporary dance, don't use pointe shoes.

I know the pain. I'm so in love with
I'm in love with her feet! It's so amazing
The best video ever

it worries and amazes me how she doesn't wear Ouch-Pouches
+Carina stap im not a dancer so what is that and why is it amazing/worrying that she doesn't have one???

Most professional dancers actually don't wear anything in their shoes. It is personal preference.

dont know what to say...
I prefer Russian ballet documentaries. This was beautiful but so solitary, self-absorbed, stripped from concept, environment and relations.
Look at Anna Makarova. RUclips. Delicate, light of bone. Beautiful hands. A dream to watch.
its like professional sports. if you realize the damage these ppl are doing to themselves, it becomes a bit hollow, as entertainment. no thanks. i'm not into watching masochists.
+Sandy Grungerson They do it because the joy they get from their passion outweighs the pain and suffering they have to endure.
applemonster no. it doesnt outweigh, esp for those that arent in the top .01%...
why are Western ppl such masochists...
Yet they keep going, they do what they do I suppose!
applemonster not for long.
+Sandy Grungerson What a stupid, racist and nonsensical comment. You don't even know where Russia is, do you? Yeah, Russia, that EASTERN place where ballet has such deep roots.
