I remember Wycliffe Gordon playing with our high school jazz band back in grade 11. He's freaking phenomenal.

What an exceptional musician, plus a really humble and down to earth human being. He reminds me of my former brass principal. People like them are the reason why the young musicians want to keep pushing.

I don’t understand how someone can play the trombone and the trumpet!! I feel like it would destroy my ombechure. (I play the trombone)

Music Videos ...check the mouthpiece! I don’t know what it is, but except for where it meets the leadpipe, it is not really trumpet-sized! Although there have always been people who double with a big change in mouthpieces, and always will be. When I try to play trumpet, with a 1C, I’ll last about five minutes, then I get trombone mouth. Can’t squeeze the vibrations into that tiny lil’ thing. I’m dying to get a hold of Wycliff Gordon’s mouthpiece, and shed with him fo’while!

Now he sells the ‘hybrid’ mouthpiece himself, with assorted rims and backbores. Better call them ‘set you’ backbores! He’s not exactly giving them away! Go to wycliffegordon.com and check them out! I’m seriously considering dropping 195 bucks and get me one!

In my opinion the technique is pretty similar from one another I play both of them and I can tell that its hard at the beggining but you can get used to it then the proccess of learning the second one is easier
