I love every part of this channel, the learning, and storytelling and, obviously, the cinematography Especially how you match it to the movie for the whole video
*dude I have no idea how you can manage to keep me that captavating, enteratined, laughing, wondering and being in awe at the end in one single video! A masterclass of a video!
Long wait is over!! Your videos are seriously a game-changer! They've taken my cinematography knowledge from zero to actually knowing where to start. Thanks for all the inspiration and tips, really appreciate what you’re putting out there! Never stop making videos about lighting and cinematography!
The fact that the shots of you just sitting at your desk are equally as beautiful as the shots you're trying to recreate is a testament to your skill as an artist. Extremely impressed with every video you put out
Back in the 90's I helped a friend do his final film project for Emerson college. We made our own dolly track using some lengths of metal tubing along with some jerry-rigged carriage wheels screwed to a two inch thick board. we also made our own steadicam rig along with an crane-mounted overhead camera rig we could attach to the cart. It was all very cheap and indie but it worked great.
I remember William first creating the idea of recreating shots and showing it to everyone when he had maybe 5k followers on Instagram. It's amazing to see where you have gotten! Th editing, the lighting the professionalism, and journey are incredible!
I learn so much from your channel but most of all it just inspires me to go out and shoot and figure it out on the way. Thank you for being quite possibly the best filmmaker channel on RUclips besides maybe studiobinder. Your vids are awesome!
This is what is totally worth my time! You need a trillion new this and that is not what makes us better in our craft. Analysing and learning step by step is ! THANKS A LOT for this amazing "This is how we made it" ....
You have such a great way of explaining some of these seemingly simple shots and breaking them down to show us how skilled you have to be to achieve them❤! Also I love the little comedic moments in your process 😂
Look, all the criticisms for this film are probably true, but it was genuinely the most beautifully shot movie I've seen whole year and that was enough reason for me to say I liked this film.
ahhh this was beautiful!!!! your videos always make me feel so deep with admiration for your work and longing for filmmaking in general, you nail it every single time i can not wait to see what you do next. much love
Good work on that final shot, lot's of moving parts there for sure. Well done! Tiny note, with those holes in the Plexiglass, next time you do something like that, try beveling the edges of the holes slightly so they catch some light. Looks particularly good when they go out of focus.
Як же це пиздато, вибачте не слові. Чувак просто займався відеозйомкою протягом 8 років, а тепер фільмує відоси в Ютуб, які я із захопленням дивлюся щоразу! 😁
You killed it definitely 💯 maby will be cool to make only a lighting course for beginners to advanced like as budget variants like split in to three bugets to approach cinematic lighting When how where why to place certain lights for example en eye light… you got it Thanks a lot it was very helpful. Stay healthy man.
hey guys! one more tipp to create a dolly in is with a weelchair. i did it in a szene and it worked great cause the weelchair has big wheels and a very soft rolling. try it and place ur DOP in this thing :)
could put a monitor in the actor's eye line so he can line his face up with the lipstick smile. Could even bee the same screen the focus puller is watching. Just avoid reflections. Also another solution for drawing on a precise spot on glass WITHOUT marks is having the outline posted further away behind the glass, out of frame but in line with the drawer's sight, which can be consistent if she looks through a little cutout view finder, or toilet paper role, held by a stand. Then she can trace the distant outline with one eye closed. OR... she could look at a little monitor with marks drawn over that.
In the projector shot, they've got a whole lot more hair light, probably supplied by a beefy supplemental lighting fixture, motivated by the projector. gaga is also blonde, your talent is brunette, so you're missing that :blonde halo" effect. Looks pretty cool though.
Small channel here, let’s connect everyone! Love your video, thank you for providing examples about these processes. ❤ Thanks you William have done your research WELL!
Love this! Amazing every step of the way. For the third shot, do you think you guys could have had a secondary monitor to transmit to, facing the actor behind the glass and off frame so he could see and position his face perfectly? Maybe put the monitor behind the actress, then have her do the smile, and immediately after, she ducks out of the way so he can look at the monitor behind her while also making it look like he is indeed looking at her for the audience?
I would have used a teradek system and a production monitor for the joker actor to look at. Where the smile is the dry erase marker is great because she’ll draw it in the same place but for him even slight changes in where his head is will make things not align. Even a TV wired with HDMI would work
How about the scene in HEAT where Homicide Detective Vincent Hanna gets called to the scene of the brutal murder of a young prostitute. He intervenes, catching her mom in his arms, embracing her in screaming agony, while streaky cold, white copter beams, flashing police and EMR overheads light up this serine inner city night scene.
Needed to shuffle your top light in setup 2 slightly camera left to be more toppy on the gaga character's hair and veil. Looks good though. Nice basic setup many of your viewers should be able to replicate. Also, would benefit from a blonde performer.
I have an idea maybe it's wrong, but what if we set up a monitor on the wall behind the camera in front of the Joker actor? He can see and align himself!
I live in south east Michigan, and I’m new to film making! I’d love to come out and do a recreation shot with you! I really want to recreate a shot from the new 28 years later trailer / Return of the living dead teaser
That smiling shot is so simple yet so complicated
Haha, it is; it took me the same amount of takes. And I had to pull focus myself.
😂
The first scene was complicated because need...
I love every part of this channel, the learning, and storytelling and, obviously, the cinematography
Especially how you match it to the movie for the whole video
the way every video is built up from the ground is awsome. This channel is heavely underrated
William isn't Joking around...
Best cinematography I've seen in years. Good effort. I absolutely loved Folie a deux, but I can see why this isn't a movie for everyone.
same here brother.
i can't, trolls be trollin
7:26 I was thinking "Wait, he's using his wife's? I... don't think she would lik--yup that's what I figured." LOL
*dude I have no idea how you can manage to keep me that captavating, enteratined, laughing, wondering and being in awe at the end in one single video! A masterclass of a video!
Bro won’t spend $100 on fake fire but spends $900 on a light
Long wait is over!! Your videos are seriously a game-changer! They've taken my cinematography knowledge from zero to actually knowing where to start. Thanks for all the inspiration and tips, really appreciate what you’re putting out there! Never stop making videos about lighting and cinematography!
man the quality of your videos are insane.. those 13 minutes really are the best 13 minutes of my day! Congrats man
The fact that the shots of you just sitting at your desk are equally as beautiful as the shots you're trying to recreate is a testament to your skill as an artist. Extremely impressed with every video you put out
It is so satisfying to watch those videos! It’s like a Masterclass in every single one, I really enjoy it
this channel will be the best cinematography channel in the future

thanks for showing us the full video at the end so glad we got to see it all in one piece...................................
You are an inspiration for indie filmmaker’s shooting on a budget, it’s amazing to see you go over the several hurdles of filming.
I think we don't recognize enough the effort put on these type of videos. Bravo
I remember William first creating the idea of recreating shots and showing it to everyone when he had maybe 5k followers on Instagram. It's amazing to see where you have gotten! Th editing, the lighting the professionalism, and journey are incredible!
You videos are always so amazingly shot, edited, structured and of course the end result of the actual work is fantastic keep it up your so inspiring
the last shot I've watched about 700 times because of how perfect it is
I learn so much from your channel but most of all it just inspires me to go out and shoot and figure it out on the way. Thank you for being quite possibly the best filmmaker channel on RUclips besides maybe studiobinder. Your vids are awesome!
This guy makes me want to re create every movie I’ve ever watched in my basement. Absolute top tier content creator in the space right now 🎉
This is what is totally worth my time! You need a trillion new this and that is not what makes us better in our craft. Analysing and learning step by step is ! THANKS A LOT for this amazing "This is how we made it" ....

It's great tutorial video and all, but your sound design is out of this world! Feels like watching a movie
Another incredible set of recreations. Thanks for sharing your process with us.
My god. Your vids aren't just vids. They're short movies, it's art...
Look, all the criticisms for this film are probably true, but it was genuinely the most beautifully shot movie I've seen whole year and that was enough reason for me to say I liked this film.
You should always drill a very small pilot hole(with a low speed) in acrylic before going in with a larger bore/bit. No splitting that way.
That's incredible!!
ahhh this was beautiful!!!! your videos always make me feel so deep with admiration for your work and longing for filmmaking in general, you nail it every single time i can not wait to see what you do next. much love
I love the Recreating series. Please keep doing that
Good Work guys!!
Im so happy im early i just started watching your channel a few weeks ago and youve inspired me to restart photography and cinematography! :)
You know it says a lot when a RUclipsr can do a scene with less of the cost for the actual $200 million movie.
Good work on that final shot, lot's of moving parts there for sure. Well done! Tiny note, with those holes in the Plexiglass, next time you do something like that, try beveling the edges of the holes slightly so they catch some light. Looks particularly good when they go out of focus.
Grate work dude!
This was amazing
Man you're amazing 💯👏👏
bruhh ı love your videos pls keep them coming

I’ve unfortunately only just come across your channel.. but mannn am I glad to 🙌🏻
You killed it definitely 💯 maby will be cool to make only a lighting course for beginners to advanced like as budget variants like split in to three bugets to approach cinematic lighting
When how where why to place certain lights for example en eye light… you got it
Thanks a lot it was very helpful. Stay healthy man.
skateboard for the camera moving in 1st shot
grain can be added in the 2nd shot
Wow... please, i want to see more! Simply incredible...
damn the matching of the timeline for the last shot was something reallyy
hey guys! one more tipp to create a dolly in is with a weelchair. i did it in a szene and it worked great cause the weelchair has big wheels and a very soft rolling. try it and place ur DOP in this thing :)
I would be so interested to see you pursue a short film of your own!
could put a monitor in the actor's eye line so he can line his face up with the lipstick smile.
Could even bee the same screen the focus puller is watching. Just avoid reflections.

Dude this video in so good, your skills are insane. Now I’ll watch the video
Creative minds think alike: I recreated the same shot in my latest video, and I loved seeing your process! Let's put a smile on that face.
Very interesting episode. Would be cool to know your exposure settings, lense, etc.
Thanks for highlighting about the shutter speed, most of the time i will be confused, why for me it flickers... but seems its common
stuff like this makes me want to forget my programming career and just dive in headfirst into film-making.
Great 🔥🔥 It will be helpful if you also provide the Kelvin of both camera and lights
3:30 you could've used generative fill?
As long as it's not a musical I can already tell it's better
In the projector shot, they've got a whole lot more hair light, probably supplied by a beefy supplemental lighting fixture, motivated by the projector. gaga is also blonde, your talent is brunette, so you're missing that :blonde halo" effect. Looks pretty cool though.
So cool ! Really good remakes !
wow 🔥
Amazing job! You have an excellent crew! ❤
That last one was clean
Thank you so much for this! Can you recreate some shots from Ti Wests' Pearl?
Small channel here, let’s connect everyone! Love your video, thank you for providing examples about these processes. ❤
Thanks you William have done your research WELL!
İts very effort congrats man
A cool idea could be to do some shots from the penguin show, fitting into this batman theme you've been doing
Can you try to recreate some megalopolis shots? There are so many scenes in the movie that feel so magical
Love this! Amazing every step of the way. For the third shot, do you think you guys could have had a secondary monitor to transmit to, facing the actor behind the glass and off frame so he could see and position his face perfectly? Maybe put the monitor behind the actress, then have her do the smile, and immediately after, she ducks out of the way so he can look at the monitor behind her while also making it look like he is indeed looking at her for the audience?
youre the most talented filmmaker!! wow u made the movie seemed so much better. i totally forgot how bad it was haha
You are the Biggest Inspiration for me , Hopefully one day we will Collab ! Love you from India ❤
This movie cinematography was not just good, but awesome. And the direction, acting, scenarios and everything was great. Except for the movie hahahaha
i'm in awe !! this is so beyond amazing !!
you're my greatest inspiration in cinematography.
I would have used a teradek system and a production monitor for the joker actor to look at. Where the smile is the dry erase marker is great because she’ll draw it in the same place but for him even slight changes in where his head is will make things not align. Even a TV wired with HDMI would work
I love how half the time bro is figuring out how expensive things are... Like: damn.. I didn't know it was that price
Can you do the movie Moonlight? The cinematography in that movie is so stunning.
im addicted to your videos, the storytelling is so good
Love thes videos
@WilliamHBaker What video transmission system did you use for the focus puller monitor? Your best video to date by the way!
The accent on the A is on the wrong side (à not á).
Yes, I'm French. Baguette.
Anyway, amazing video as always mates, thanks !
I know if no one got me.... William H Baker's DIY film making sure do got me

I love your videos, best inspiration to get into filmmaking!
This was super cool but i were hoping that you made like a trailer of some kind
OKAYYYYYYYYYYYYY
William why are you so good? like what is wrong with you?
Needed to shuffle your top light in setup 2 slightly camera left to be more toppy on the gaga character's hair and veil. Looks good though. Nice basic setup many of your viewers should be able to replicate. Also, would benefit from a blonde performer.
Nice work as always! But there's a typo in the title. It should say *à* not á. Believe it or not, it makes a difference.
Great fucking content. Love you William
Love seeing such creative people!!
this guy is a MENACE to society he needs to be PROTECTED
The advert amaron didn't even request😂
It's awesome how you got Andrew Garfield as your male stand-in !
I have an idea maybe it's wrong, but what if we set up a monitor on the wall behind the camera in front of the Joker actor? He can see and align himself!
