i find it amazing how the 90s spawn figures still look really good
I think they look more than good - I think the paint apps on the older figures were far superior
@@CarbonScoring i think i agree with you on that
Paint apps and sculpting particularly in those early 2000s lines might be the best ever in terms of toys. I'd much rather the statues of those lines with insane sculpts and paint apps than the cheap look and ultra articulation of the current figures myself.
Pulling on one of Spawn 3 arms makes his eyes glow too!
Manga Spawns head comes off to reveal his unmasked version.
Do you know the name of the spawn that had the thick cape
@@jasonnnm You'd have to describe it more. Theres so many different ones
It's the one in 29:02
@@jasonnnm Thats also Spawn 3. Theres a Fish Tank version (came with a plastic case) and no mask and no wings. Thick cape. This is the resculpt Version 7.
Ok thank you for letting me know
Fun fact: The modern version of Kickstarter Spawn has a head with the stitches Spawn got later in the series run, also the look he had in Spawn/Batman
he originally got the shoelace stitch from batman's baterang if i remember correctly.
I love spawn’s character, I’ve always been a fan of his look the blank mask with jagged white green eyes, and I love how Todd started his own company and made the toys himself.
Yeah, he just didn't feel like anyone could do it as well as he could - and he was totally right and that changed action figures forever!
Love love love spawn! The sculpt work on the old and new figures is just fantastic and second to none. A lot of the old ones still fit in with a modern figures!Angela is one of my all time favorite comic characters weather she's in marvel or image doesn't matter love the character!
Glad you got an early watch as a Channel Member! Appreciate your support!
Always appreciated what Todd did for Spider-Man. I remember reading the first few issues of Spawn in my university’s art and design library. I’d read it every time I had a break between classes and it was really good stuff. I used to own a 10th Anniversary figure, but I had to sell it. It was the best Spawn figure imo
Fantastic video! Mandarin spawn and Medieval spawn are my absolute 2 favorite figs. I favor sculpt over poseability and the old spawn figures ticked all those boxes for me.
This box was great to go through - so many memories
I contacted my friend lil Ron and had him inboxed your ig and sent you detailed pictures of the ship!
I'll check it out!
Soul Crusher....green gas mask spawn. Excellent collection you have!
Thanks - I didn't want to fake it - I just don't have the depth of Spawn knowledge as I do other things - I just think they are cool!
growing up i cant discribe how much i wanted all the 90's ones but my mom said they cost too much
I would like McFarlane Toys to make a 6-inch Spawn figure something like Hasbro's Marvel Legends style, it would be nice if it had accessories in its packaging: two interchangeable heads, one of Spawn's head with a mask and the other without a mask, a battle axe, two machine guns, a sword, magical blasts of necroplasm and along with his cape
You should be a product designer!
The Medieval Spawn is getting it's own Kickstarter with Todd teasing some new sculpts, a mask/helmet that hinges and weapons made out of steel.
It hurts me to see that kickstarter spawn crammed in those containers. Missing a hand and paint rub. That’s an expensive figure to be stored like that.
Great trip down memory lane for me. I still have the original 12" deluxe Mandarin Spawn to this day and it continues to hold a candle as far as sculpt and detail.
I don’t have that one, but I imagine I could stare at it all day and find something new every time!
@@CarbonScoring it's one of the first figures that got me into the Mcfarlane lines 😁
In my own honest opinion, Spawn is just a very, super, cool and unique superhero like Marvel's Johnny Blaze aka the Ghost Rider because his villains are interesting and his powers are 1000% awesomely badass with both his chains and his own fantastic looking cape, Amazing Mystery Box videos as always Carbon Scoring.
Great comparison - two of the coolest looking characters
For Real For Real the Old 90's Figures BLOW THE NEW ONES OUT THE WATER...The Details on the Old Ones are Untouchable TO THIS DAY💯💪👍💯
In making this video, I realized just how many more paint apps were on the older figures - far superior!
Nice! I still have a handful of late 90's early 00's Spawn figs. They still look great on the shelf!
Oh, and I'm pretty sure he was originally named "Overkill" but has to change it because someone else already owned that name.
Nice. Todd has had his share of lawyer issues with trademarks...
Spawn at 16:17 is actually the 10th anniversary figure which comes with a giant cross he either stands on top of or in front of. It’s a pretty expensive figure currently
Is it? I got one
Paid like 100 bucks for it in 2010 or so
@@amelinn7909yeah it goes around 150-200 plus new in box
15:34 Soul Crushers name was inspired by Erik Larsen in a letter to Todd McFarlane that was expressing a business dispute! Fun fact!
Nice, Aubrey - I’d never heard that - FUN FACT POINT Awarded!
That Spawn 3 figure is legendaryyyyyy!!!!!best toy of the 90’s hands down
I liked how the older figures had chiseled abs and were buff and now the new ones kinda just have flat stomachs
The older figures are so boss!
Man 90s action figures were amazing and super cheap, wish I was around that time
Straight out of the comic book pages
I can't lie - the figure aisle at Toys R Us back then was a magical place!
McFarlane Figures always have good sculpting for Spawn toys. There Monster Maniacs line was just perfect and there Mortal Kombat 11 line and Dc Multiverse line can be good here and than.
I recently dug up my old boxes of Spawn figures and lots of them still hold up to this day. Some look great next to Mythic Legions (designed by the same people who did the Spawn figures back in the day).
Great point - the Four Horsemen have their fingerprints all over these!
As a Spawn freak myself, I’m extremely jealous of your Spawn collection 🔥
Love your channel, and love Spawn too!
Thanks so much! Glad to expand my videos a bit!
The commando spawn figure had an add on pack to
That has been lost to time, I'm afraid...
@@CarbonScoring what's the name of the commando spawn figure as I wanna buy one
old > new, but I appreciate the articulation
YES A SPAWN VIDEO! this makes me so happy!
Hope you enjoyed it!
the manga spawn line was pretty odd
as far as I know it wasn't based on any comic lines or characters (there was a spawn manga but it doesn't have much to do with it) so all I can guess is that it was made because todd also made a series of figures based on various manga that were popular at the time and decided to make spawn figures inspired by them.
I think the most infamous one is probably manga clown with how absolutely grotesque it is looking like a quake II enemy mixed with the fat guy from blade; although personally ninja spawn looks worse since, well, the colours used combined with spawn's patterns on his suit make him look like he's wearing a borat mankini
A part of me wishes I was a Spawn completist back in the day just to own all those crazy figures!
The kickstarter Spawn is the best spawn figure imo looks amazing
He did go all out on that one
I miss the details of early 2000s spawn figures. I'm not huge on articulation so I loved those. Still like today's spawn stuff but it's definitely cheaper feeling
I think it is the number of paint applications that is the difference
Yeah man the early 2000s spawn looks like a premium statue with incredible detail and paintwork
@@CarbonScoring yea absolutely
@@Nugtroen right! They looked so damn good
My friend is going to take me to Gamestop to see if I could find a Commando Spawn figure because I need a Mortal Kombat 11 semi classic looking Spawn figure but if I cannot find the MK semi classic Spawn figure, At least I will have a Spawn action figure.
I hope you find one!
Love spawn, thanks for sharing your collection!
It is my pleasure!
SPAWN!!!!!
LETS GOOOO
He is the coolest
I kinda accidentally got into the Spawn Figures because I like the Space Marines and McFarlane do them at great value , plus I'm a fan of the movie Spawn and to be fare the quality as far as I'm concerned rival's Necca .
Do you have any DC Direct or DC Collectables Arkham figures you could make a mystery box video about?
I have boxes and boxes and boxes of DC Direct figures that I will be doing as Mystery Boxes soon!
To way much better the Spawn 90's figures, the only spot, will be the lack of articulations, that's all
I’m a 90’s guy all the way!
Damn this was entertaining! Great video!! Every time you pulled out an old 90s spawn figure that was broken, it really took me back to when I would dig through my dads collection and there almost always was a busted spawn fig. I’m collecting the new ones now…feel like I should go back and get some of the older ones details are insane!
I continue to buy the new ones - but they will never capture the magic of what it was like to see the originals on the shelves of Toys R Us!
awesome spawn collection, man.
Thanks - everytime I look in this box I am just reminded of how BAD ASS Spawn can be!
ive been looking for a good spawn for a long time this vid helped me a lot NICE JOB
Fun Fact (possibly): A lot of the older Spawn figures were designed by a guy who was coined "Cornboy". His style became highly recognizable and made him popular in the action figure realm. He eventually went on to form "Four Horsemen Studios" with three of his coworkers from McFarlane Toys where they craft high quality fantasy action figures to this very day.
Great fact - he was really active on the RTM message board in the early 2000's - seems like a super great guy!
Nice collection and review! Love the spawn figures and Im investigating wich one to buy next! Definitily the MK version and the commando
Mk spawn is a great one. Gunslinger spawn is my favorite, raven spawn is awesome too. If you have 100 150$ get the kickstarter spawn. That's the best spawn you can get
that overtkill is terrible compared to the series 20 one i have on my desk. the medieval spawn that had no articulation and the last one were statues they had bases for them and all. still have them on my desk too even the bases have lots of detail too.
Agree, the new ones just don’t compare
There's only really two comic book characters that I truly enjoy and that's spawn and The punisher. I guess I can throw wolverine in there as well . So... 3 characters...
Really appreciate your videos like this! I use them as a way to build my "to-buy" lists haha. This video specifically is helping me come up with gift ideas.
Nice - hopefully I can help weed out the bad ones and highlight the best!
❤❤❤❤❤❤ love spawn
New mandarin spawn seems unfinished. Like it needed to be painted.
No where near the level of paint detail in these new figures
What is the most posable spawn figure that isnt 300 dollars on ebay?
Spawn and the punisher r my top favorite. Wish McFarlane would come out with a punisher line. Different variants of him.
He actually would crush it
Heyy Quick Question did You want to sale any of Your older Spawns...??
Nah - thanks for asking, but I don't sell any of my figs
I need to know the name of the spawn figure with the thick cape someone please tell me.
I wanna show you my Spawn figure
Spawn 3 is still my favorite
I wish they would come out with this gimmick with current technology.
That would be sweet!
I don’t speak for wave one , but old action figure looks more ´ fragile ´ than new spawn figure.
Love the figures tho
Thanks - they are awesome, huh.
Hi 👋 I'm new to this channel and WoW 👌 I really enjoy your channel. I am 11 by the way, and I have been collecting action figures since I was 4. My first action figure was the daredevil Netflix marvel legend. So keep making great work!
Welcome to the channel - I hope you enjoy many of my videos and keep your collection growing!
Оч круто мужик спс тебе!!!!!
The Kickstarter Spawn was a digital remaster of Spawn 1 in a 7 inch scale. The "M" on Spawn's chest/torso is to represent Malebolgia, ruler of the 9th plain of Hell who made the deal with Al Simmons.
Redeemer, originally named Anti-Spawn was originally Jason Wynn, AL Simmons former boss and was selected by Heaven as Spawns antithesis.
Gunslinger Spawn debuted in Spawn issue 174 as Spawn from another era. His figure from Spawn series The Art Of Spawn (series 27 from 2005) is a masterpiece compared to the new crappy figure recently released. If you haven't seen the original check it out.
Raven Spawn was from the artwork from one of the covers of Hellspawn.
Big chunky medieval spawn is Spawn the Black Knight from Spawn The Dark Ages series 12. One of my favorites.
The figure wrapped in the chains is Shadows of Spawn from the Japanese Manga of the same name. Debut of that version of Spawn.
The next Medieval Spawn is Medieval Spawn III from Spawn series 20. The Art of Spawn. That sculpt is ripped right from the pages of the Spawn Bible by Greg Capullo. Medieval Spawn II in my opinion is leagues above all others. Particularly the R3 variant.
Todd McFarlane is the ultimate example of "Fine. Ill do it myself"
7:06 the m is apart of every spawn, it stands for malbolgia
Nice! Never knew that - Fun Fact Point Awarded!!!
Love your content
I have tons of spawn figures amongst other things (transformers, tmnt, marvel, batman, neca) mostly unopened
I like your videos
How do you not mention Spawn 3's light up eyes when you lift his right arm?? I can't believe you didn't mention that haha. Mine still lights up after 30 years, they sure as hell don't make s*** like they used to
My batteries finally died
the gask mask guy is soul crusher
Great call - thanks!
I got2vrgin❤❤❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Love the videos
Thank you so much!
@@CarbonScoring just wondering, do you have more Batman or dc themed mystery boxes?
@@Natewhite09393 a ton more! In fact, this Saturday I am dropping the first of a 4 part series on Batman The Dark Knight Returns!
manga spawn looks like the gundam sazabi so much!
That figure is so good!
I'm not a huge Spawn fan, but this was a great video
Keep up the great work
That spawn mech looks like sazadi from gundam
19:18 shield went to the shadow realm
Which medevil spawn series is that one ????
maybe series 2?
Huh 🤔...when i saw your spawn 3 box pic I immediately look at mine because why does yours has a black cat or dog but mine has an owl?
The gas mask spawn is called the soul crusher
would like to let you know the gas mask guys name is soul crusher
Ahhh - thanks! I couldn't remember!
Whats the knight figures name
Cogloristro
Rubber capes always suck.
Especially with Spawn. They either look stupid or are so in the way that they negate the articulation.
Cloth goods posable wired fabric capes are the best. Especially with Spawn.
Cloth cape with underwire wins!
What was the figure at @29:00?
I think it is like Spawn 7 or something like that
We desperately need a new movie/series for Spawn by now....
There were some things on display at Todd’s SDCC booth
Yo who’s your favorite mortal Kombat character
clown 2 figure had a masive gun array.
Just 4 minutes
Hopefully you saw the whole thing
*your storage method is extremely disrespectful to the figures as a adult. Seems like something a kid would do bc he plays with them, not collects and admires them.*
She spawn is awesome, her "big gun" is a anti material rifle, above a .50 caliber and it was semi automatic with a banana clip ak 47 style. Thats one of the few accessories YOU DIDNT bend.
I appreciate the passion of your comment, but I think we can all collect in different ways. I do think of these as toys and don't hold them as sacred objects. Totally OK for those who do. Just like I am not an in-package collector, but I respect and appreciate those who are.
