Thanks for the video I'm still getting familiar with way points. I did something crazy with way points, but I probably won't do it again. I flew 5 miles, no signal, took a pic of my subject, and waited nervously for the drone to come back and it came back thank god
Hi Russ, great video. Just an FYI, when planning a waypoint mission remotely, you do NOT have to power on the drone. You can plan it using the remote only.
@@contrerasoj 1. Start up your remote 2. Tap "Connection Guide" in the lower right-hand corner 3.Tap "Camera view" on the upper right-hand screen 4. The screen will show as if the drone is in flight but there will be no camera image (screen is black). 5. Tap on the map (lower left) 6. Manually zoom into the area where you want to plan your mission. 7. Tap the waypoint icon and plan your mission. 8. save the mission. I hope this helps
@@rodrigoardilha6959 I have a Mavic 3 Cine. Any Mavic 3 will have waypoints. However, you have to be running firmware version V01.00.1000 (Dec 9, 2022) or later and also have DJI Fly v1.9.0 or later.
I love waypoints, and have been deep diving into complex missions. One thing I am not super clear on is "Auto" for camera zoom... the app states "Auto calculated based on previous and next waypoints" -which seems to indicate a slow zoom to whatever setting, then slowly back to what it was previously, over time from the waypoint before to the one after. TIP: Stay organized. If you are setting speed, set it for all waypoints on the mission, it's easy to start jumping around changing this, then that, then the other. Don't do that, at least not on a complex mission, else I guarantee you will end up with a mess. Russ is 100% right... This is the single best thing DJI has done at least since Mavic 3 release!
Great video as always! As a sidenote, on a job site today, using white points for the first time… I would hit save an exit, and it wouldn’t. I thought, perhaps I was missing a step. So I watched your video again. No, didn’t miss a step. However, it still would not save… That is, until, I turned on my Wi-Fi hotspot connected my controller to the Internet. I found this to be a fascinating situation. Happy and safe flying.
Going to Thailand in February I will be using waypoints on the temples and the villages. So happy they are using waypoints again. Nice video keep up good work
I remember when you showcased the hospital when there was hardly any structures! I was following you when I bought my first drone, the M2P in September 2018.
Hi Russ! Thanks again for this wonderful video. Coincidence or not, but today I’ve just used waypoints on my 3-week old baby, the standard Mavic 3. It makes this awesome drone even more awesome. Greetings from Romania and keep up the amazing work! 😎
Thanks Russ. In the field working on a Waypoint mission. I’m looking to edit a mission by adding a WP in between two WPs. Thanks for all your hard work and videos.
It was nice to see Waypoints arrive to Mavic 3 with the latest round of firmware updates. And good tutorial on how to get started with Waypoints. Thanks for sharing Russ.
You and your channel are concise and loaded with valuable content. I had given up on waypoints for my Mavic 3 and didn't realize they had arrived until your channel notified me. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and may your New Year be better than the last few.
Love how you have estimated 28 minutes left with less than 75% :P Definitely one of the benefits of having that longer flight times to have functions like this.
RUSS: The new Manual dropped for Mavic 3, we got v1.8 on 11-5 with Cruise Control and Night Mode, now V2.0 User Manual with Waypoints details. It answered my question about Zoom "Auto" setting. I can zoom from 1x to 3x as slow as the battery lasts if I want. Did 2 waypoints like this a kilometer apart, zooming soooo slooow! Lol. Also, automated Dolly Zooms. So freaking awesome 👌 👏 👍 FYI offline mission planning doesn't require the drone to be powered up, just save it and it uploads to Aircraft when you fly it. 😉
Thanks for this advice about the latest Mavic 3 manual. I too was wondering about some of the more subtle points of the Waypoints operation. But regardless, waypoints is a brilliant addition to the Mavic 3. Thanks also for your input on the zoom function
Thanks bro for a video. Was playing today with my pro 3...well...was practicing near a tree these way points...turned off obstacle avoidance...I did nice way points around a tree...wasn't following exactly same route I put on waypoints and stopped not going through some branches even having enough room to go through
Great tutorial. I just bought a Mavic 3 to replace my Phantom 4 so I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to more great information. Thank you!
I bought two different size EcoFlow power stations during black Friday to carry in my camper, and to have for backup at home. They can also be used for a safety power outage battery backup for a computer and router etc. I want to video the downtown skyline but I don't really feel safe, and would like to set my waypoints at home, then go near the area and fly the "mission". As I was writing my question, you answered it, now I just have to do it! Thank you... There is no such thing as something an app can't do if it is programable. Someone coded the original app, and they can modify it if they have the skill or knowledge and time. The Mavic 3 was released as an unfinished drone to beat Christmas sales, or another brand. It has been built over time quite well. I am glad they didn't wait until now to release it, because I have had a lot of fun with it, and made some nice videos. I just got the Mini 3 Pro to play with indoors and as a stealth drone when people are around.
Nice overview. We shall just hope that the waypoints are soon available to the Mini 3 pro. Been doing for years with Litchi and p3p, p4p. Mini 1. Or at least that dji releases the sdk so Litchi can be used at last for that matter. Why call it 'pro' if it can not emulate what we have been doing for years with older drones. Dji makes nice drones, but these software intended limitations are such a pain...
Great video thanks. I want to video the main block of the main street in our small mountains town. However the top of the block on the main street is about 30 meters higher than the other end of the block on the lower end of the main street about 400 meters away. I want the drone to follow the contour of the street, not drop instantly at different weigh points. Weight Point1 & 2 could be either end of the street, but how to have the drone loose attitude smoothly and consistantly in the flight between WP1&2?
You mentioned you used waypoints with your Mavic 2 Pro. Did you ever use Litchi for your missions? If so, I would be interested in your comparison to using the Mavic 3 onboard waypoint function and that of Litchi. I have an M2P currently and I use Litchi all the time. I love it and have had zero issues with compatibility. I'm hesitating to upgrade because Litchi does not work with the Mavic 3 product line. Thanks, your channel is great!
Excellent video Russ, but honestly, wouldn't you rather save time and enjoy the comfort of pre-planning these missions in the comfort of your own home using Dronelink or Litchi, instead of standing out there in the cold and wasting battery time flying to the way points to set them?
This is by far the most powerful add on for this drone and really should have been there day one. But it's finally here and with that the value of the M3 doubles.. Now if we could just get the mobile SDK released!
Well done, Russ. Like others, I wish waypoints and cruise were available for M3P. I do find that SkyGrid works pretty well on my Mini 2 as a free mapping device.
@@JoseArrom Is there any way of confirming this, please? The reason I ask is that I bought a M3Pro about three weeks ago, and following the hype surrounding the launch of the update, coupled with my understanding of the desire ability of the function I went online and bought the lifetime option from the dji store, only to realise later that it was (then) actually only for the Mavic 3’s and not as yet available for the mini 3 pro. Any link or info gratefully appreciated, thank you, and have a great and hopefully flyable Christmas!
Thanks man. Great video. If I wanted to video a length of beach, looking for plastic, could I set waypoints at home and then have drone fly beach? Without actually walking there. I would be parked 1 mile inland I should think. From saftey point of view I am talking wilderness location. Thanks
I use waypoints as well and this video is great. Help! How do you video shoot a building or structure and have the Mavic 3 pro just auto fly in a circle around the structure? The owner's manual is very vague. Thanks!
Great video....at the 8:46 mark you say you can hover over the POI and select that place. Is it the c1 button once you get to that spot. that is great if you can actually do that. NOW Christmas has come early adding both of those features (waypoints and c1 button POI) I don' think you tell us how to select POI flying over subject. Cheers.
Okay no disrespect intended, because I try to continually learn. But I'm like a 55-year-old guy been flying DJI drones for about six or seven years now. So I might be a little bit behind on comprehension, LOL but the tutorial here was a little bit hard to follow. I'll keep trying to learn and I appreciate videos like this don't get me wrong, thanks a lot man. Hopefully someday very soon I can use my DJI mini 3 pro for stuff like this
Hi, first of all, thanks for an amazing explanation, nevertheless I have a question. I wonder whether the Obstacle Avoidance function is working on the Waypoint mission or if I must turn it on manually whenever I fly with Waypoint? Thanks in advance
Hi there, thank you for another fantastic and instructional video. Can I ask you: why you don’t start from point 3? So you’re already there, saving battery. The POI on waypoint it’s genius! Love that feature
Thanks for this. Just upgraded to the M3 and was struggling to find a use case for this. Essentially(what I'm gathering) is for hyperlapse video, or videos that require a seamless transition from day to night, for example? I don't see myself integrating it as I only fly manually, but good to know!
Is there a limit on how low of altitude you can set a waypoint. I set a waypoint at about 6 ft high (above ground) and the Mavic 3 had a problem with that. I even tried it with obstacle avoidance off and same problem. When I changed the altitude of the waypoint to around 15 feet, it was ok with that. 6 feet? I can’t do a waypoint at 6 feet high? What!?
Really excellent video, thank you! One question: if for instance waypoint 1 is at 100 feet. Waypoint 2 is at 200. Will it smoothly move from 100 to 200 on the way between the 2 waypoints or will it reach waypoint 2 and then only move from 100 to 200 feet?
they must add a rule of third + waypoints + pan tilt method .where in every part of grid should change according to way points. for example waypoint rule of third 1 should be left heavy and first grid 1x 9 object tracking ,2 nd way point rule of third should be center grid 5x9 object tracking . another feature is depth of field tracking .
Hello- I hav enjoyed your productions so much. The variety you offer is great. Plus, I spent a few months in Minnesota last year, so selfishly, I always find it enjoyable watching your backdrops! My interest in this message is to see if you would consider making a video on the waypoints setting for the RC Pro remote when using the new Mavic 3 Enterprise drone. There are many video options for the waypoints setting used in the Mavic 3 Classic and Cine models but nothing on the Enterprise series. Unfortunately, the waypoints shown in the remote for the E series does not match the look on the standard Mavic 3 models…i.e. no squiggly icon on the flight view screen, nothing showing POI settings and other features you are showing in this waypoints video. I see how to use it on the 3 Enterprise with the RC Pro remote, but it’s not near as convenient or understandable as you display here. Maybe it is not possible to use waypoints as fluidly with the E series as it is with the standard models. I do hope this is not the case. Thanks so much for your time here, even if only to tell me I am out of luck. Chris
Great content. Is this level of granularity settings of Waypoints only available on Mavic 3. I don't see these option on my Air 2S ( not available on Air 2S ?
Taking the shortest route to go to way point one to start the mission can be an issue if you are running this on the evening with low visibility and no obstetrical avoidance.
Thanks for the video on waypoints. Can you tell me if I can setup way points and have the Mavic 3 take pictures while it flys between the two waypoints?
You would just need to set additional waypoints and program it to take photos. The other option would be to run a hyperlapse and have it take photos in intervals.
How many different waypoint missions can you save and how long can they be saved for? And how many waypoints can be saved within a mission? I need to cover a construction site with 7 different missions, once a week for a year
Quick question: does Mavic Mini 4 pro have the exact same waypoint options as Mavic 3? In Mavic Mini 4 pro can you preset waypoints at home and then fly them on site? In other words, does Mavic Mini 4 pro have native waypoints or is it still virtual stick? If during waypoint mission you lose connection with Mini 4 Pro, is it going to complete the mission or return straight back to you?
Mavic 3 and Mavic Mini 3 Pro: What is the minimum and maximum distance rule for the Active Trak range operation. And if it follows a car, the control needs to be in that car, or what is the maximum distance of the controller from the aircraft? Thanks for your reply.
I tried to use this on my M2P last winter, but the POI I wanted to highlight (lighthouse) is not on the map b/c it's out in the water, and the map only shows land. Did not know there was a satellite view. I'd prefer if we could do this on a PC ahead of time at home due to the screen size, but that's the old man in me.
With the SDK for this drone now due for imminent release, I am eager to find out whether Litchi will be able to make the Mini 3 capable of completing waypoint missions even if the signal connection with the RC controller is lost. Also, being able to create waypoint missions at home on a desktop computer is way more convenient than creating the waypoints while flying the mission as DJI forces users to do. Here's hoping 51 Drones does a Litchi waypoint review for the Mini 3 when that time finally comes and the SDK is released.
@@JWard2 If your interest in the Mavic 3 SDK has to do with the drone's ability to complete waypoint missions with full autonomy AFTER loss of RC signal connectivity to the drone operator, then I can affirm that the Mavic 3 can be programmed to fly such missions using DJI's native waypoint flight planning feature. Mission completion in the event of RC signal loss IS now, at long last, an available selectable option when DJI's waypoint flight planner is used. This is a very welcome development indeed. While DJI's waypoint planning capability for the Mavic 3 pales in comparison to the versatile, affordable, and intuitive Litchi Mission Hub flight planner that is preferred by discerning, cost-conscious drone operators, those of us who ARE legally permitted to launch long-range drone missions are in hog heaven already, regardless of whether or not DJI deems it worthwhile to publish an SDK for the Mavic 3 in the foreseeable future.
Russ, I love your videos and, in this case, I appreciate your encouragement (at 13:30) for your viewers to start RUclips channels of their own and to post their drone footage there. However, isn’t it important to state that doing so requires a Part 107 certificate? This is in part because RUclips itself is a business, and posting interesting video on the site supports that business, and draws more viewers (customers) to it. I really hope you’ll address this question, as you routinely emphasize regulatory compliance in your great videos.
This has been a topic of discussion in the community since I started. It’s a very gray area, and the fact is, technically it is a “business” only if your INTENT at the time of drone use is to publish the footage for financial gain. So first, your channel would need to be eligible for monetization. Secondly, your intent would need to be there and documented. Thirdly, no content creator has ever been charged with using a drone for their channel without a Part 107. Some have been contacted regarding flying bvlos or flying in restricted areas, but never for a 107 violation.
That looks like it be a very useful tool for route planning & help a flight be more efficient. One could only hope they make it available across the board. If not it may be time to upgrade from the mini 2 to one that has that function. 😎
Mini 2 does waypoint missions on the litchi app & other apps i think. However i taped the bottom sensors & flew "blind" (on the dji app) & now mini 2 doesn't work at all. Don't think i'll cover the sensors on mini 3 pro. The sphere stitching errors are bad enough. Don't need the drone to error out completely!
Can the longer waypoint mission be done with multiple batteries on Mavic 3? Example:- After planning the mission it starts shooting, midway it gets below 20% so I do RTH, then swap battery then can it go to resume from where it returned from & continue shooting the mission further?
I have never used DJI WP until today. I used to use Litchi all the time. Can I adjust the speed of the drone while it is flying the waypoint? Can I adjust the yaw that the drone is flying during the mission. I want to be able to adjust where the camera is pointing at during the mission. Can I adjust the zoom levels during the mission? I want to do this because I want to set a waypoint along a road and then while it is flying the waypoint I want to follow the car. Using waypoints I can be assured that I will not hit a tree or power line because I can have the drone ascend when those obstacles approach and then descend. I don't use Active Track because, well, I don't trust it and I would need to lock onto the car when it is moving which active track cannot do.
So it's not possible to make a waypoint mission of straight lines? From point to point is always curved? With the Mavic 2 Pro using DJIGo4 app you had a choice of curved or not.
If I want to have a change in direction, altitude or whatever, is it performing that change linearly or in a smooth s-curve for example? I saw drone videos that looked horrible when sped up.
Hello Russ. Great channel for drones man. I have a question for you. Is the wayppint features of the DJI Mavic 3 identical to the Mavic 2 Pro? Is it the same? Less or more? Thank you in advance.

I don't see these option on my Air 2S ( not available on Air 2S ?
great video
Does the Florine have to be on for the waypoint creation
Oh man great job thank you so much.
Do you have a video on Drone Deploy if so please let me know I need to see it please
No, but I need to. Billy Kyle has some.
Great content. Is it possible to edit waypoints on a mobile device? The screen on the controller isn’t very responsive and really lags during edits.
I was just using this feature and it's great, wonder if they'll ever allow litchi on this new system.
Do you think it is possible to include a lens change as part of a waypoint mission on the Mavic 3 Pro?
Taking the shortest route to go to way point one to start the mission can be an issue if you are running this on the evening with low visibility and no obstetrical avoidance.
Thanks for the video on waypoints. Can you tell me if I can setup way points and have the Mavic 3 take pictures while it flys between the two waypoints?
You would just need to set additional waypoints and program it to take photos. The other option would be to run a hyperlapse and have it take photos in intervals.
@@51Drones Are you just able to click the photo button to manually take photos between waypoints like you can in Litchi?
Mavic 3 and Mavic Mini 3 Pro:
What is the minimum and maximum distance rule for the Active Trak range operation.
And if it follows a car, the control needs to be in that car, or what is the maximum distance of the controller from the aircraft?
Thanks for your reply.
Can you share saved waypoint paths ?
Hi Russ!
Is it safe to using waypoints at night time around bridge & towers? Thanks
I tried to use this on my M2P last winter, but the POI I wanted to highlight (lighthouse) is not on the map b/c it's out in the water, and the map only shows land. Did not know there was a satellite view.
I'd prefer if we could do this on a PC ahead of time at home due to the screen size, but that's the old man in me.
makinig the map off site is the best thing about this.
Did the SDK ever come for the mavick 3?
Hi! When a waypoint mission is saved is it possible to transfer it over to a different controller?
Way Points are great. I use Litchi. Great software.
Tks for the tutorial!
Was that Ken Heron's fire truck I saw?
When you mark a way point on your Mavic 3, can you actually see the coordinates of the way point you mark ?.
Can the longer waypoint mission be done with multiple batteries on Mavic 3?
Example:- After planning the mission it starts shooting, midway it gets below 20% so I do RTH, then swap battery then can it go to resume from where it returned from & continue shooting the mission further?
I want it to be in straight lines, not curved between waypoints path . Is that possible?
I have never used DJI WP until today. I used to use Litchi all the time.
Can I adjust the speed of the drone while it is flying the waypoint?
Can I adjust the yaw that the drone is flying during the mission. I want to be able to adjust where the camera is pointing at during the mission.
Can I adjust the zoom levels during the mission?
I want to do this because I want to set a waypoint along a road and then while it is flying the waypoint I want to follow the car. Using waypoints I can be assured that I will not hit a tree or power line because I can have the drone ascend when those obstacles approach and then descend.
I don't use Active Track because, well, I don't trust it and I would need to lock onto the car when it is moving which active track cannot do.
does obstacle avoidance work when it travels in between waypoints?
First off. How did you get yours to read FEET and MPH?
So it's not possible to make a waypoint mission of straight lines? From point to point is always curved? With the Mavic 2 Pro using DJIGo4 app you had a choice of curved or not.
Hi i AM new un the drones area i just want to know exist a external screen i can attach to My arm or a screen only to see the camera dron?
sweeeet!
I want waypoints for my new Mini 3 Pro!
