    On December 9, 2022 DJI released new firmware for the Mavic 3 series of drones which allows for creating and saving waypoint missions through the DJI Fly app!
    We have used apps like Litchi in the past for creating and saving waypoint missions for construction site progress monitoring and even video shoots in order to have the drone replicate the same flight path. The ability to create, pre-program, and save waypoint missions right through the DJI Fly app is a great feature to have and allows the Mavic 3 to be used in ways that weren't possible before.
    In this video we go over the two methods for creating waypoint missions, how to customize waypoints and point of interest (POI) settings, as well as saving these missions through the DJI Fly app.

    This is the most useful instructional drone video I've seen to date. Finally someone who's not just a DJI fan boy or a RUclips glam boy, he just gives straightforward, useful, and easy to understand information for anyone with a basic familiarity with drones.
    For the record, I don't know Jason or his company, I'm just coincidentally in the same town of Cleveland, Ohio. But it's really cool that such a great video turned out to be from a local guy!

    Great video and good to see this update finally. Although basic in the features available, it does seem very smooth on the yaw and gimbal pitch movements - the advantage of on-board waypoints I guess! Let's hope DJI release the sdk soon, so that we can then utilise apps like Dronelink/Litchi etc. to really refine and pre-programme the missions with a virtual flights beforehand.

    • @v1dronemedia696

      Thanks, Mark! Yeah, Litchi (and other third party apps) has far more capability than what is currently offered by DJI for pre-programmed flight options. It's better than nothing, but an SDK release would be ideal.

      Ist doch schon möglich mit der RC pro Drittanbieterprogramme zu installieren. Nachteil, die Sensoren sind deaktiviert. Ich verstehe nicht, warum man keinen Standard wie beim GMX macht. Mittlerweile könnte man am PC mit Google oder Open Street Map und dem Drohnentyp einen Flug am PC simulieren und Testen und dann über die DJI Fly App in die Drohne importieren. Wird Zeit dass es die App nicht nur für das Tablett gibt, sondern für den PC um Zuhause zu planen.

    I wonder if there is the possibility to set up a mission using fix overlap perventance among continuous photos taken on consecutively way points (as for example we have in “Pix4d”) so to make orthophoto of a place of interest ?

    • @v1dronemedia696
      @v1dronemedia696  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting. If I understand you correctly, it seems you are looking to create a grid over a point of interest to capture nadir photos. That would be something easier done with Drone Deploy or Pix4D apps. Hopefully that answers your question.

      However, if someone tries to connect PIX4D to the Air 3, will realize that is impossible. It is also impossible to transfer waypoints or grid lines to the drone using PIX4d platform because the connection between those two is, unavailable. It would be extremely interesting if you could check my claims as I think it is an issue that differs many of us who are involved in taking such kind of nadir photos. Thanks for you time.

    first of all, all man thank you so much. Very very good/great tutorial my question is, is optical avoidance still active when using Waypoints especially if I first set it up waypoints on a construction site and during construction they added a crane or something with in the path, and I came onsite to run the path again, and did not realize something was in its way. Would it attempt to avoid it or with a crash

    • @v1dronemedia696
      @v1dronemedia696  Год назад +1

      Appreciate the kind words - Thanks for watching! This is what DJI says concerning obstacle avoidance while performing Waypoint Missions (from the Mavic 3 manual, page 32):
      "Check the Obstacle Avoidance settings in the Safety section of DJI Fly before performing the
      Waypoint Flight. When set to Bypass or Brake, the aircraft will brake and hover in place if an
      obstacle is detected during the Waypoint Flight. The aircraft cannot avoid obstacles if Obstacle
      Avoidance is disabled. Fly with caution."
      So, essentially, obstacle avoidance can still work while using waypoints as long as you have it turned on.
      (That being said, I would never rely on that alone to avoid obstacles)

    It would be great if you could do the same with the DJI RC Pro controller used with the Mavic 3 Enterprise as the format is a little bit different and somewhat confusing. Setting up the route and elevation changes thereon is relatively easy. However trying to indicate the POI "point of interest" seems cumbersome!! Thanks for the above. It has helped me!!

    NIce...I learned more about POV and can't wait to try. I was wondering. Have you ever set up a mission, lets say for an example, going through a forest where you might be in tight spaces and then 'reprogram' the waypoints to start at the last position and fly it backwards? The visual of going through tight, precarious spaces, at speeds that looks dangerous...sounds like fun.

    Thanks for taking the time to put together a straight forward review of the waypoint function on the Mavic 3. I have a question. On the Mavic 2 Pro using the Smart Controller you were limited to the number of missions you could save. If I save more than 8 missions on the M2P/Smart Controller the last mission just rolls off the screen never to be seen again. Is there mission limit on the M3/Smart Controller combination you are demonstrating? This limitation on the M2P was one of the main reasons I switched over to using Litchi as there is no limit on the number of missions you can save and have access to. Thanks in advance for your time.

      Thanks for watching! Great question - I am not currently aware of how many flight missions can be saved with the Mavic 3. Obviously, this could be something you could easily test by creating a bunch of missions to see how many can be saved. I'd be curious myself if you happen to find the answer.

  • @RONALDSCHULTE
    @RONALDSCHULTE 8 месяцев назад +1

    Particularly good and clearly explained video, congratulations. Well I have read several times that you should always start a saved waypoint mission from exactly the same place because otherwise the waypoints will shift a bit in position. So if you would start the second time not right next to your car but for example from a bench a hundred meters away then waypoint 1 is no longer exactly the same as in mission 1. Is that correct? Greetings from the Netherlands.

    • @v1dronemedia696
      @v1dronemedia696  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting! I have not heard of waypoints 'shifting.' The waypoints all have specific gps coordinates for where they are located once they are placed. That should not change - instead, what may happen is that the drone is not capable of flying exactly the same way every time as there can be some variance/error in the consumer grade gps that most drones use. This is why the new DJI Inspire 3 (among some other higher end drones) has the capability to use RTK (Real TIme Kinematic) gps data which allows for centimeter level accuracy while using waypoint flights. Hopefully that makes sense.

When I press the waypoint icon, it pulls a screen from right side that says Create Route with a + symbol. If i press the plus symbol, it gives me the option to select Waypoint Route. I then, can create a route, but it is only manually meaning tapping my waypoints from the map screen on my controller. Would you by chance know why i do not have the same options as you? The way that you set waypoints will make it extremely easy for me to set waypoints during flight, rather than having to guess my altitude when manually selecting waypoints from the maps screen.

    AV Pros- I am just finding you on here but really impressed by the production and diversity you offer! My interest in this message is to see if you would consider making a video on the waypoints setting for the RC Pro remote when using the new Mavic 3 Enterprise drone. There are many video options for the waypoints setting used in the Mavic 3 Classic and Cine models but nothing on the Enterprise series. Unfortunately, the waypoints shown in the remote for the E series does not match the look on the standard Mavic 3 models…i.e. no squiggly icon on the flight view screen, nothing showing POI settings and other features you are showing here for the standard Mavic 3. Maybe it is not possible to use waypoints as fluidly with the E series as it is with the standard models. I do hope this is not the case. Thanks so much for your time here, even if only to tell me I am out of luck. Cheers!

My question is, does the Pilot 2 application using Waypoints with the Mavic 3 Enterprise allow a radius adjustment at each waypoint? With my Mavic 2 Pro, I can adjust the radius at each waypoint for a smooth transition. The only downside with Waypoints 2.0 with my Mavic 2 Pro is that when you set a waypoint’s radius, you’re not able to set the start / stop recording setting but that’s not an issue for me. I just want to be sure if I finally do upgrade to the Mavic 3 Enterprise, I can basically have the same functionality with the Pilot 2 app as I currently have with the DJI GO 4 app and the Mavic 2 Pro. Too bad there is not some way to "share" your waypoint trip. Or plan it on your own computer at home and then upload it into your controller. As a former Litchi user, I really liked the fact that you could share your trip or plan it on a larger screen and then send it to, say, your Ipad mini or phone.

    Great video ! I tried the waypoints for a time-lapse video: at sunset I flew the same route 3 times , once in full light, once in the blue hour, once in darkness... I wanted to "morph" the three shot to start from liught and ending in dark where only the street lights give some light. And Mavic 3 failed miserably. ALthough I obviously saved the waypoints and it was a simple movement ( 8 waypoints in total ), the drone didn't find theexact starting point , so the shots were different in angle and couldn'T be layered.... Do you have any experience or advice in this topic ? Thanks !

      Thanks for the comment and for watching! Cool idea and experiment, however this is something that you will run into with 'consumer grade' gps drones. The gps is only accurate to about 2-3 feet, which means the drone is not able to replicate a shot exactly the same every time - there will be some variance between each flight that you run even if it is on the same exact planned mission. This is where having a drone with RTK capability can help since RTK can allow the drone to fly within centimeters of where the planned flight is supposed to be. The newly released Inspire 3 has RTK capability and is able to fly/replicate missions much more precise than what a drone without RTK capability can. Hopefully that makes sense, otherwise I just gave you some material to research! ;)

    Can anybody help?? I was told by DJI phone support that there is no way to transfer waypoint path files from one RC/Drone to another one. This is extremely important if I am to use this feature for any serious projects or client assignments. I cannot rely on a multi-year waypoint mission if there is a chance the RC/drone is lost, stolen, or broken. Not to mention, it would help if you had a partner that could return to the jobsite with their drone to fly the same path when you can't be there. Has anybody done this successfully?

    Only problem I see with pre selecting waypoints on map is that the gimbal tilt needed is unknown so if the gimbal tilt is not set correctly, the mission is useless

    • @v1dronemedia696
      @v1dronemedia696  Год назад +2

      Yeah, as you do more waypoint missions you will get a better idea of what gimble tilt you would need while planning the mission. That said, you can always tweak the waypoint settings as needed once you are on site/in the air.

    In short, and speaking about projecting a flight from "home", unless they modify many, many things, the waypoint module is completely inaccurate. Beginning with the maps the they should get quite a lot nearer the ground. i.e. A tower of a castle looks so little on the map..... apart from that the inaccuracy of creating waypoints with the finger.... totally unprecise..... my e-pencils do NOT work with the DJI RC PRO, so have to add points with the tip of my finger. And why the heck do I have to use the RC control for that? The lack of possibility to create waypoints on the laptop would also simplify things. Nothing difficult... if Dronelink and litchi can do it, why not DJI.
    If they want to improve, there should be more firmwares to come!! Any ideas coming from anyone will be welcome

    Here we go again. Another RUclipsr that wants to create training vids. Very first thing they fail to explain is how to access the menu to get into the variouse mode. I.E. this vid starts out, pointing out the little squiggly line. It fails to tell the student how to get there.
    Training should be that. If the tainer is makeing an assumption the student has more than basic knowledge of how to turn the unit on.
    it is not just this trainer of these videos. DJI is just as bad. Read there manual. Look for Active Tract. Yep it's there, but it says nothing about how to get in the mode.
    Sombody PLEASE creat a vid that will explane each function and what menu option to get there.

      Sorry the video was disappointing to you - I tried my best to be as clear/concise as possible while going over everything and there may be some things that I overlooked or missed. However, the 'squiggly line' button to open the waypoints menu is on the main screen of the controller - I thought I had made it pretty clear by adding a red box around it at 2:39 in the video to point it out. There is no other menu that needs to be accessed to turn this option (the 'squiggly line') on/off. If you are operating a DJI Mavic 3 and don't have this option then I would suggest checking for firmware updates to see if that resolves the issue.

Nobody tells you to get to it you have to assign a function button to get to it. I also see many instructors there is a binnocular on there screen. What is it for? Or I am constantly getting "can not zoom in current camera mode. Like zoom, an instructor should say when when you see this what is wrong and explain what to do.
