UFC 285: Jones vs. Gane is an upcoming mixed martial arts event produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship that will take place on March 4, 2023, at the T-Mobile Arena facility in Paradise, Nevada, part of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area, United States.
A UFC Heavyweight Championship bout for the vacant title between former two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and former interim champion Ciryl Gane is expected to headline the event. Former champion Francis Ngannou was stripped of the title on January 14 and released from the promotion due to a contract dispute.

Ciryl Jacky Gane (born 12 April 1990) is a French professional mixed martial artist. He currently competes in the Heavyweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is a former Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion. A professional fighter since 2014, Gane has also formerly competed for TKO Major League MMA where he was the Heavyweight Champion. As of March 29, 2022, he is #1 in the UFC heavyweight rankings.
Gane faced Derrick Lewis on August 7, 2021 at UFC 265 for the Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship. He won the one-sided fight via technical knockout in round three. This fight earned him the Performance of the Night award.
Gane faced Francis Ngannou for the UFC Heavyweight Championship on January 22, 2022 at UFC 270. Gane was ahead after the first two rounds, but Ngannou switched to wrestling and controlled him for the majority rounds three through five. He lost the fight via unanimous decision, marking his first defeat in any martial arts competition.
Gane faced Tai Tuivasa on September 3, 2022 at UFC Fight Night 209 He won the fight via knockout in round three. This fight earned him the Fight of the Night award.
Gane is scheduled to face Jon Jones for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Championship on March 4, 2023, at UFC 285.

For me it's really a question of how close is Jon still to his peak. If you can promise me Jon has at least 85% of his prime abilities left then Gane is fucked.
For better and for worse I think Jon has a rare combination of everything that makes him the greatest talent we've ever seen. Not to mention he seems to have the devil's luck on his side that makes him come through the other side of every challenge he faces. Truly a frightening competitor.

Incredible fight, massive challenge for Jones. If he was fighting Stipe then it would be a easy fight for Jones, but Gane is young, hungry, skilled and has lost the belt before so he’s definitely not coming to lose. Can’t wait for this one.

I don't see Jones doing the same. But he could, I saw him struggle with Reyes, let's see how he does after a 3 year lay off from the cage and a heavier body to boot.

Honestly the only UFC fighters that actually understand the fundamentals of striking are Jones, Gane and Volkanaski. I'm referring to timing and distance,, head and lateral movement, cutting off the ring, setting up a shot and exchanging while moving.
Gane is better than the flat footed Jones at this but Jones wins by........... Leg lock or even a knee bar..
Reason being even novice grapplers practice defending the choke at length but Gane won't be expecting to get stunned with a spinning elbow in the clinch and immediately leg locked.

Jones has a grappling background so if he gets Gane to the ground he will probably win. He also is nasty with those elbows. However, Gane has that speed and probably better striking in general will be a great match if it remains standing.

Huge Cyril Gane fan but Jones is levels above in terms of IQ and tougher fights. Even though it was in LHW, I got Jones winning convincingly. I don't know in what area Gane would best Jones in but it sure as hell ain't while standing.

Some of the issues for Jon is that he hasn't knocked anyone out since 2018. Gane lost to Ngannou but took his punches. Gane is also 6ft 5 inches and heavier than Jones and moves quickly. Therefore, he will have to take out Gane with a submission. The last time he took out anyone via submission was Vitor Belfort. This is a much tougher fight than what the commentators are claiming it to be. Gane is good at distance control and Jones will avoid grappling as it will gas him at the higher weight. It is a complicated first fight for Jones.
This Will be a tough fight for jones. But he can do it. Cmon jones show us who the true goat is.

Francis is the strongest mfer in the UFC. Gane got the takedown in round 5 and went for heel hooks. Gane won the fight based on 'damage/submission attempts'. Not to mention Jones has been out of the cage for 3 years and looked bad against Reyes and Santos.

Jones is naturally a long and thin person and these kinda physique is the weakest one...
Look at the matches where jones opponent were same size and he never used wrestling...and one more thing dc at heavyweight would have been a different story for jon
If Jones wrestles, clinches, grapples he can avoid a lot of trouble...if not I think Cyril messes with him, but Jones finds a way to win.

Round one Jones uses his longer reach to keep Gane away. Neither does much. Gane lands a slapping kick to the side of Jones face towards end of the round. The crowd burst with insanity.
Round 2 Gane feels more confident and tries to close the distance only to be caught with an oblique kick. This theme continues with Jones pinpointing Games knees, thighs and stomach throughout the round.
Round three they start the round with a great exchange and Gane wobbles Jones momentarily before Jones takes him to the ground in devastating fashion. The crowd again erupts.
Here the strangeness begins. Perhaps from being wobbled or the extra weight or just age...Jones seems to just lay on Gane and hold him in place while breathing hard for what seems an eternity. 27 seconds after the take down Jones commence to land elbows and control Gane like a 160 pound child. Gane appears helpless and is beaten badly.
Round 4 starts and it's clearly on Ganes face that he wants to give up but won't allow it to overcome him. However, he can't be taken down again and now it's he who tries to keep Jones at distance. Jones appears more drained than we are used to seeing......then snappingly closes the distance with an uppercut that stuns Gane before he is again slammed to the ground in a beautiful transition from uppercut to body lock take down.
Here it appears Gane has already given up as Jones effortlessly takes his back and submit him via rear naked choke.
The crowd erupts and then Jones awkwardly looks DC in the eyes and quotes a Bible verse before saying he is the true double champ. DC hides his distain like the true professional he is and allows Jones to shine bright.
The news breaks the next day and most RUclips videos spend more time highlighting how Jones looked winded and slower as opposed to being the new Heavyweight champ

Who wants to bet this ends up being a lackluster decision for Jones? They're gonna take turns half ass engaging for 5 rounds and each say the other one run the whole fight. I just have a nose for these kinda fights anymore.
