Ralph Clevenger, the photographer who shot that iceberg image was my teacher. He taught nature photography and the image paid for his son’s college tuition! Thanks for mentioning him.
I made a video myself about why iceberg videos were popular, but I think that you elaborated further here about how long-form content reduces the decisions we need to make choosing something to watch. I realized that thats how I've been thinking without even knowing it!
Not only are your other videos well researched and explained in a near academic manner but you went out of your way to apply this to a video explaining arguably the most glorified version of a Top 10 list. Sidenote: The Greek "εσωτερικός/esoterikos" is pronounced as esoterikOs, not esotErikos. Other than that, another great video🖤.
this video is gonna be a life saver for people years in the future wondering what all those old iceberg videos are about and why there's one for every hobby in the planet
Duncan. I have something to ask. I really enjoy your RUclips videos because they talk about philosophy in an entertaining way, but when it comes to learn Philosophy in a college it feels so tiring to read a lot of those old philosophers that have a very complex vocabulary. So I don't know if I truly like philosophy or I just like your videos (I'm Brazilian and right now I'm reading meditations and studying a bit of stoicism)
I cannot help you with philosophy, but there is one story from my life which kind of goes in a similar direction: While at school, I was really interested in Sciences, especially maths, physics and chemistry and wasnt too bad at those (while also not being too outstandingly great as well). After school, I went studying in that field. I couldn't cope with it, it was too abstract, complex, unintuitive, couldn't make my own sense out of it or develop some actual understanding in a way my brain does. No matter how hard I tried, nothing ever seemed to work out. Also, the tempo required for learning, understanding, practising and preparing for exams was way too fast for me. My brain seemed to be overwhelmed by it and the type of teaching / the requirements a student had to meet in order to survive made didn't make it any easier. I wasn't just made for the STEM field. I ended up with a depression and apparently was close to remove myself from existence. I have done a restart, clean slate, changed degrees and switched to something entirely different, something I could rather cope with. But anyway, the main point is that after the first attempt to study has failed, I didn't want to have anything in common with Sciences like maths, physics etc., I hated them, all interest, all joy was gone, the topic only triggered my bad, painful and traumatic memories. It was only a few years later that I have re-discovered my interest in those, thanks to all those science oriented channels on RUclips. Those channels not only were a good source of entertainment for those long afternoons and evenings, but were really engaging, made the content finally understandable and sparked the joy and passion I have been missing. I even wanted to turn it into a full hobby, make it more rigorous and systematic, like going from watching RUclips videos to searching for proper learning resources, textbooks and other stuff, so that I could work myself through an entire studies' curricum on my own, not because I have to, but because I want to and am genuinely passionate about. Sadly that plan has gone a bit into the background lately, as my general mental health state is deteriorating back again and my job/career (I am also highly passionate about) just demands too much time and energy. My life is fucking joke.
I would say that most of these videos just happen to be of extreme interest and high qualities stuff like rythmics reason’s 8+ hour Kanye icebergs and parrelel pipes RUclips icebergs there are literally endless topics you could dedicate them to so they reach unlimited appeal
i agree with your points. also a bummer about icebergs is that you can’t spend as much time on a topic as you would like to. i found myself watching an iceberg video and the youtuber touched on something i knew about and i was frustrated because she left so many details out. then i remembered, it’s an iceberg video lol
I watched your linguistic iceberg video and then crawled through all your videos, Mr. I must say that you will be a valuable addition to my subscribed channel list
i read about the iceberg theory, it is also know as the omission theory which has been used by ernest hemingway so what domian does these theories come into play? How can an Average Joe use this theory to enhance learning .(P.S. how can i learn more about pedagogy)
I dislike disturbance being used as a criteria for positioning. For me it should be based purely on obscurity. Unsurprisingly, I don't care for videos that prioritise disturbing content. Even though I like disturbing entries.
Basing politics of fiction was a behaviour that occurred mostly on Twitter- usually equating Harry Potter or Star Wars or Marvel cringe. Example - a left wing sjw post about stopping patriarchy or oppression comparing it to being a super hero or a rebel Jedi. Other examples are using lessons or history of fiction to compare with real world events and demonstrate why your political point of view is just. It isn’t really a deep topic although has strands to author Michael Ende and the belief of Anthroposophy. Yet I don’t think most are aware of the connection.
6 minutes in and no mention of wendigoon's conspiracy theory iceberg :(. those videos were like the pennical of the esoteric inclusion feeling you were describing in the video.
So happy the iceberg became a thing. Found so many cool RUclipsrs like Wendigoon.
same

I'm glad there's icebergs, they're one of the only things that can keep my attention span watching, like a mental cleansing from youtube shorts.

Thats super cool fr!

I didn't stumble upon your video during my research process but I'll definitely check it out!
omg hi
It's pretty much like the "top 10 phase" of youtube, except 1 is normie and 10 is wizard every time.
0:20 I’m gay also

i really hoped this was about icebergs like the titanic iceberg and B-15 iceberg and stuff
this video is gonna be a life saver for people years in the future wondering what all those old iceberg videos are about and why there's one for every hobby in the planet
They first gonna have to look up what an iceberg was :P

watched so much icebergs it lead me to this point
6:02 I usually open like 10 videos and close the tab when it's over. Great video Duncan!

I'm bullish on Duncan

Your philosophy iceberg video got me into Bataille, who occupied a fair bit of the lower levels haha.
I would say that most of these videos just happen to be of extreme interest and high qualities stuff like rythmics reason’s 8+ hour Kanye icebergs and parrelel pipes RUclips icebergs there are literally endless topics you could dedicate them to so they reach unlimited appeal
I thought this video was about icebergs
I love icebergs so much, I created a whole ass playlist just for it.
I wanna thank you
for giving me the best iceberg of my life

Nick Mullens tucker is amazing
the best I've watched was linguistic iceberg. Very informative, nothing strange at all.
wow nice video
stop it. its turning me onnn
Now we need an Iceberg Iceberg Iceberg video.
I watched your linguistic iceberg video and then crawled through all your videos, Mr. I must say that you will be a valuable addition to my subscribed channel list
There's no way I'm gonna watch this whole iceberg video about icebergs
your video on linguistics inspired me to lear toki pona and the amount of joy Im feeling is incredible
I was wondering when the iceberg iceberg would show up on the internet
can you make a podcast i enjoy hearing you talk
Thank you! That's something I've considered pursuing eventually
I love long form content. When people cram a subject into a 5 minute video, it feels rushed and unfinished. It like abridged books. Totally useless.
i read about the iceberg theory, it is also know as the omission theory which has been used by ernest hemingway so what domian does these theories come into play? How can an Average Joe use this theory to enhance learning .(P.S. how can i learn more about pedagogy)
U R underrated
I really like the iceberg format. All the information is in speech formats, so it’s nice and accessible.
I am now become a phd fountain of useless information
I love how he started yapping further and further. Genius 😂
Master of saying everything and nothing. Thanks DC
Yeah, good video! Btw, what's the outro music? Is it something by haircuts for men?
It is haircuts for men! I believe the song name isトニーは悪魔でした
I just put icebergs on since I drive long distances regularly
Cool vid

At 4:04 what iceberg video is that? Those topics look intriguing 😅
That's actually from my philosophy iceberg video haha. You can find it on my channel
Where is everyone going bingo? 😂😂😂😂
This video literally explained everything in my mind, thank you for making this, now I know what the serial position effect is!
Icebergception
Anyone have a link to the iceberg/iceberg explanation for that git iceberg in 7:04?
I can't find it either! WTH!?

Icebergs are the only videos i take notes on

we want to remember the darker stuff more that's one of the reasons the icebergs are so fun

I don't mention it verbally but that series does have a couple visual shoutouts at 0:16 and 2:35.
