How come you can uncloak directly behind people and not get caught but I could uncloak on the far side of Jupiter's second moon and I'd turn around and immediately get crit.
Nope. Doesn't matter who it is, the same thing happens every time.
What ball of blood said and also the guys Muselk were uncloaking around were probably distracted or near a lot of gunfire. aAso, are you using a C&D or DR? Those things make much more noise than standard.
I always use stock invis watch.
Then I guess you're just having bad luck. Try decloaking around a corner or simply decloaking while they are in a firefight or otherwise distracted. Heavies revving up are real good to do this on, as they can't hear over the sound of their gun.

I didn't know the L'tranger got so much hate. I thinks it's amazing, because of the extra cloak time. It's not a bad revolver at close range either, it's just when you get farther away is when it starts to fail.

As an invis watch spy, I love the L'Étranger, especially with the YER. With that loadout, if one's sneaky of course, you'll never get detected.

The Red Tape Recorder isn't good at destroying sentries. But resetting a level 3 back to a level 1 sentry that can easily be killed? Check. I actually hate it more than the regular sapper. It resets all my work and it does it SO quickly. If you want to annoy an engie, THAT'S the sapper you use. _Fuck_ the RTR.
Especially in Deathmatch too where metal can be limited in very easily.
It's also equally as effective in MvM as the stock sapper.
where it's really good is the fact it takes so long to downgrade, meaning you sap a mini-sentry with it and the combat engineers can't just immediately shrug it off and plop down a new one, or blow up the old one because it's being sapped. Best sapper for mini.
The earner is only good strategically with other weapons
It use to be quicker now its so slow when i get sapped by a red tape recorder l dont even go rescue it i go to kill the spy and then repair my sentry and its perfectly fine

Rocket Jumper, Gunboats, and the Equalizer.
Gunboats won't do anything since you have Rocket Jumper, and the Equalizer relies on you being damaged to increase damage, and if your full health, it'll do less damage then the shovel.

Short Circuit
Eureka Effect
This loadout basically makes the slowest building and attack engineer imaginable, with a decreased repair and construction rate from the Eureka Effect, the slow pause between holding m1 and firing with the Panic Attack, and the lack of reliable medium range damage from the Short Circuit (although you could defend your buildings, if they actually build in time).
Your goals are to:
Actually see what the Panic Attack's kill icon looks like in game
Get a kill with the Short Circuit
Build a sentry nest with the Eureka Effect

Maybe try the diamondback, stock watch, and your eternal reward as a worst loadout. The idea of a worst loadout is to have the weapon's effects working against each other. You need a backstab or sap for the diamondback to be useful. but after getting a backstab with the YER, you can't shoot or you're back to square one. It;s hard to sap without getting a disguise, which needs a backstab. Essentially, this loadout goes absolutely nowhere until you manage to backstab someone oblivious, with nobody else around. and once you get that, you only have one shot to fall back on should things go badly.
I think in that loadout they were working against eachother. It was just stacking cloak giving items ontop of eachother until they were useless.

Thing is, the CnD's inability to let you pick up metal to recharge it removes a lot of the cloak-giving redundancy on the rest of the items. I would've used the stock Invis-watch with the other items, since you're picking up a backstabbed player's weapon to recharge a good 50% of the cloak, which makes the primary attributes of the L'etranger and especially Big Earner rather pointless.
In my opinion, the dr is always the worst options with the yer/wo

No, if you use it correctly it's one of the best knives. The big earner is really the worst in my opinion. Whenever I do YER spy, I don't seem to notice I can't cloak, it doesn't matter, and my backstabs doesn't get reported.
The YER is usable but for pro spies. Same for the kunai. I'm a noob-pro so I use the spycicle.

It has alot of potential to go on some insane streaks, its a very strong knife when used strategically.
I did it once maybe it was my lack of skill but I really sucked with it. Spycicle was pretty good tho I use it almost everytime.

Thats one of the best loadouts, you can sneak into back lines with DR, and spawncamp some dudes, now you have a disguise and you will destroy the enemy team, also Red Tape is better than default at some situations. L'etranger is not a bad pistol btw.

Sneaking without being able to disguise and cloak at will is really hard since you aren't scout speed, and the l'etranger has barely any benefits with the DR, so you're having less gun damage, for like ~.5 more seconds of DR invis. Cloak on hits good though, you may not wanna do that sometimes so you have a disguise.
even .5 more seconds cloak can be the difference whether you live or die.

+Rulin Yeah, but when put together (pre-gunmettle) they actually complemented each other pretty well. L'etranger extends the life of an invisi-watch with less cloak, and the big earner replenishes the cloak upon backstab, which is important because the cloak and dagger couldn't pick up metal when this video was made.
Yeah, I know. I meant at the time this video was made they complemented each other. Now that gunmettle has buffed half of this loadout, you don't really need to combine these weapons in order to get this kind of usage out of them.

i actually really like playing with that loadout. it allows you to attack from anywhere, at any time, and disappear just as fast as you showed up. it's really good if you're going for straight stealth because the second you get that backstab you can cloak and leave with ease, and if you miss that backstab just fire off a few rounds from your revolver and you'll be able to disappear just as quickly as if you got a backstab, though it will give a larger opening for enemies to attack. it's just really fun watching how the enemies change tactics because they know that a spy could be waiting behind any corner prepared to stick a knife in their backs.

What exactly makes the RTR the worst sapper?
It takes a lot longer for the RTR to destroy anything compared to the standard Sapper. Undoing an Engi's work is fine but doesn't get rid of the problem.
Well, at least the RTR is better against mini-Sentries. Since it takes longer to destroy the mini and the Engi can't self-destruct the sentry, it paralyzes the mini-Sentry Engi's firepower as he has to choose between manually breaking the sapper or waiting for the mini to unbuild completely so he can deploy a new one.
Kai Li Kwoh To be fair though the RTR's going to give a turtling engi more problems since they're going to get the sapper off quickly either way but at least the RTR forces them to reupgrade their sentry, making it more vunerable to other players on your team.
Basically what Kai said. It can be a decent choice if your team is around to blow up the sentry while you sap, but in an uncoordinated pub the engineer will have a TON of time to remove the sapper.

also, it doesn't damage the building. the regular sapper causes damage which means even if the sapper is removed (say by a homewrecker) the building is still weak.
that said, sometimes the red tape recorder is a great way to frustrate an engy...
I have one that's probably not the worst, but I expect it's pretty hard still:
Primary: Your eternal reward: Can't disguise unless you backstab
Secondary: Ambassador: Does less damage and is slower to fire.
Invis watch: Dead ringer: Can't cloak unless "killed"
Sapper: Red tape recorder: Slowly takes down health and build progress of sentry but does less damage.
Altogether it's probably pretty hard to get that many kills unless you're extremely skilled.

L'etranger/Big Earner/Dead Ringer is legitimately a really good loudout. The ability to recharge the DR that quickly is amazing - once you get it down properly, you'll never die.

You know what's funny? Switch out the Red-Tape Recorder with the default sapper and this is my primary spy loadout. I designed it for survivability and reconnaissance.
Being on the receiving end of the red tape recorder sucks. With the stock sapper if you remove it it only takes about 40 metal and 1 or 2 swings to repair the damage done depending on how quick you were. With the red tape recorder it can take up to 400 metal and 16 swings to undo the damage plus time for the building to redeploy.

I'd say that nowadays, the worst possible Spy loadout might be Enforcer, Your Eternal Reward and Dead Ringer. You have next to no way to get behind anyone to get backstabs since you can't manually cloak or disguise, and the Enforcer will almost never get its attack bonus.

I would have thought a "worst Loadout" would have been a Dead Ringer and either a Wanga Prick or a Eternal Reward, as that loadout pretty much removes the 'stealth' option from the spy.
Thing js, the big earner is actually pretty good now with its speed boost on kill. You can backstab a guy and then run off and get some health or redisguise
the worst loadout is:l'etranger+your eternal reward+dead ringer+red tape recorder.With the Y.E.R you can only disguise by backstabing and the dead ringer makes it very hard to get a disguise,the l'etranger makes your cloak last longer but after gun mettle...the DR cloak duration is only like 3 secs and the l'etranger doesn't realy help much and it deals low damage,and the red tape recorder needs no explanation at all to be honest
Yeah but. Eternal Reward, Dead Ringer, Letranger, Red Tape Recorder. Your bonus cloak meter will be pretty useless, you cant go invisible, and you cant disguse. If you dont set yourself up you'll just die again and again and again.

No disguises, slow cloaked movement due to CaD's decrease in cloak time, your pistol counteracts the only bonus of your knife so if you use it you have to go into battle undisguised. And the RTR because the one thing the cloak and dagger does well is kill engie nests, while the one thing the RTR does well is reduce them even if the engie gets you.

Your eternal reward, the dead ringer, red tape recorder. Word spy load out ever. Can't disguise until you backstab a person, can't cloak until you take damage, and sentries take forever to die.
The red tape is good for paranoia because you can sap something right at enemy spawn and everyone will look for you and it keeps the engi busy
Want the worst loadout for spy these days? Your eternal reward, enforcer, and dead ringer. You noted that the core Elena of spy I life cloaking and disguising, and yer / DR take a lot of the control of those two elements away from you - you have to rely on the enemy for both disguising and cloaking. The enforcer now works completely counter to the yer as well. Might be a good shot at #3?

The recorder is better for taking out nests. First, you dont destroy the buildings (which you probably wouldnt anyway with three Engies running around), but you do have a chance to make it weaker, thus easier for your team to destroy. Second, since you delevel the buildings, they have to build back to their level again, should the Engineer destroy the sapper. That actually gives you a small window of time when the sg is rebuilding to stab the Engineer, as his sentry can't shoot yet, as would be the case with the default sapper.

You know , when you die with the dead ringed being disguised after killing with eternal reward you don't loose the disguise , so this is working pretty well , but you can't make mistakes
In my opinion, the RTR is pretty annoying. If you've ever played engineer, which I think you don't, reupgrading your buildings from 1 to 3 costs 400 metal, and much more time to fix, than than the stock dapper which only removes at most about 100 metal.

With the your eternal reward(YER) you can't disguise at will and need backstabs to get the disguise, and if you screw up, you can't dead ringer away, the invis watch also has a finite amount of cloak meaning you half to act fast and can't hide in a corner, although the YER allows you to backstab an engi in front of his sentry you have to wait for the red tape recorder to completely reverse it and the engi will be able to pick you out easily unless you backstab someone else, which can be very suspicious. If you shoot at someone, then you lose the disguise you have and are forced to restart afterwards plus after your first shot you have a damage penalty with no upsides.

The Red Tape Recorder isn't that bad. If you use a regular sapper and an engie breaks it, there is no point in the sapper. But the red tape recorder unbuilds the sentry
That sapper is only bad for low level stuff. For any upgraded buildings it's actually really good if there are people trying to stop you

the tape recorder rewinds the progress of the sentry making it less powerful but does not do as much damage per second its more for if you have a tanky team that can survive level one sentries but not levels two to three
I use this loadout. It's actually pretty good for survival, especially for sap and runs.
I need a tip... I have about an hour as the demoman, and my max kills is about 5 or 6. Should I buy the Loch-n-Load? Or should I buy something else?
