The King's Academy, a National Blue Ribbon, Christian school in South Florida, recently presented "Les Miserables" on its main stage. Starring TKA alum Nate Adams (Jean Valjean), senior Chase Pereboom (Javert), sophomore Kyle Martin (Marius), senior Lexi Graves (Eponine), junior Graham Popadic (Thenardier), senior Summer McCarty (Fantine), and junior Gracie O’Connor (Cosette), this performance showcased TKA’s young talent and was the last musical staged at the school’s Loveland Center. (In May 2017, King’s opened the Page Family Center for Performing Arts, a state-of-the-art, 800-seat theatre, at its West Palm Beach campus.)
TKA’s Conservatory of the Arts, an American High School Theatre Festival award-winning fine arts program, is led by Mr. David Snyder (Artistic Director, Musical Theater, Department Chair), Mrs. Sonia Santiago (Vocal Arts), Mrs. Cathy Higgins (Dance- Ballet, Tap, Modern and Jazz), Miss Riselle Portuondo (Dance- Ballet and Modern), Miss Sarah Fahey (Theatre Arts), Mr. Brad Majzner (Stagecraft), Mr. David Skinner (Instrumental Director), Mr. Wes Lowe (Assistant Band Director), Mr. Patrick Clifford (Strings), Mrs. Macey Norton (Video/Digital Arts), Mrs. Laura McFaden (Visual Art), Miss Mikah Adams (Popular Music, Elementary Choir), Mrs. Robin Phillips (Piano), and Mr. Gene George (Elementary Music Theory and Band).

God, school productions of Les Mis are so often even better than professional shows because having 16-18 year old boys play the rebels drives home just how young the characters really are.

And poor Gavroche!!! This kid almost brought me to tears, he is brilliant!
Gavroche is great and can really act and sing but I wish they'd told him to forget the accent!

this is one of my favorite musicals and i really like this version kind of wish they had left their arguing over who would go in the movie because it makes more sense than Gavroche just jumping over the barricade for no reason

This scene seems to be handled very differently depending on the theater.
The one I saw gives us a fake out shot, but he lives, and then gets shot after he gets the ammunition and is standing high in victory.
True. And several have him get shot several times. In this it's only once.
In the first one I ever saw, he gets shot a bunch of times over the course of the “little people” part. Made me really sad.
I just saw a production last night. They had Gavroche standing atop the barricade giving this speech as basically a rallying cry. The actor had lights on him from in front and behind, and when he was shot he fell easily six feet off the barricade and was caught by one of the republicans. As someone who’s really sensitive to violence against kids, it was a bit of a double whammy: 1 the character himself getting killed, but also 2 the possibility of the stunt going wrong and the young actor actually getting injured colliding with part of the barricade or the adult actor who was supposed to catch him, well, not. Granted I’m assuming they practiced the stunt to death so I’m sure both of them felt comfortable doing it, but regardless there’s ALWAYS some chance of something going wrong.

I’m not sure why he sang the last “up”. Prominent misses her last word “grow” and Gavroche misses the last “up” because both were so young when they died

I really prefer when the barricade doesn't turn. Even knowing how it ends I always feel fear when the first shot rings out, relief when Gavroche keeps singing and is alive, then hope when he climbs back up into sight, then my heartbreak when the next shot happens and he dies.

Gaten Matarazzo played Gavroche on Broadway in 2014. This is a school production in Florida, so definitely not him.
Yeety Wheatie Michael O’Leary played a Gavroche but there have been many actors for Gavroche because they have to get a different actor for each place they do a since most kid’s parents won’t allow them to miss school for their acting career.
