ruclips.net/video/ggj2QfKONPw/видео.html LOL Starts out with the drums from Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson, but yeah....same tune. Guess quite a few songs would have migrated over here from Ireland.
I’ve heard a few variations on this story. My favorite is the one where the Farmer demands of the Devil “what will you give me to take her back in?” “All I can offer are the wages of sin.” “I’ll take her back Devil. I’ll take her back in, but you must never come bother my family again.” “Well the Devil did curse and the Devil did howl, but he never returned to the man at the plow.”
In the hospital with covid in an unfinished basement makeshift room for ICU listening to this song is put a little fight in me I need...I'll be back old Farmer❤🤠
I really like the sound of this banjo. It has a front porch lazy afternoon sound. Well that what I was thinkin anyway. lol Oh, and the wood on that banjo is beautiful.
@@CliftonHicksbanjo WOW! That is impressive. I noticed in another video you flipped that banjo over and kind of showed it off. The workmanship was wonderful. It looked like a hand rubbed finish.
This song here ain’t meant for Solitude in the Mountains, this song right ‘ere is meant for a couple of buddies, with a few beers by the fire singin’ along. Keep the music flowing!
I also happen to listen to a lot old traditional Irish music with me being Irish and all and you can just tell by the lyrics in this tune that it has Irish influences
Oh how you do take me back to my childhood. I grew up listening to pretty much everything you sing/play. It makes me smile hearing those things again. I think it also amazes my husband because he listens to you as well and I can just pick right up and sing along. Keep up the old traditions darlin. Don’t let people forgot. 😊
You are a One of a Kind Musician,Great.............Atropatos Safkas Pisgon Palpeltiah Duvdeviah Miton Taphtaphiah Hachereb Adrigon Charoite Kali Wali Mesukiel Aketeriel Mahakala Bala Bala Hehehe Capalatmika Kalabhairava
Love the old songs mr hicks. I love old folk songs and thought you did an awesome job. Thank you. The old songs remind me of growing up in north Carolina. We lived less than an 2 hours from the Atlantic. I'd lay down on a moss covered tree hanging over the pond ( to cool off). And I'd sing to the dangonflies and frogs. Sweet memories of a hot summer day. Thank you.
Not much a proponent of boobtube but this mans music brings me great joy. I have my family together getting ready for sup. Kids barefoot in the pasture playing. Music in the background. Like a scene out of oh brother where art thou. You have a gift you’ve worked hard to cultivate. All my sons are musicians in the making. Appreciate your efforts partner.
Wow. God bless Florida pot for getting me here. This dude gets my ex wife. I’ve now spent a couple hours, more than too many microwaved Reece’s pieces popcorn watching all of his videos. Keep up the good work and just don’t tell anyone back home up North that I’m listening to banjo music on purpose.
Fantastic performance! My favorite song on the Harry Smith Anthology of American Folk music and there are so many great song in that collection! Sounds so great Clifton!

“Another little devil come climbin up the wall,
She upped with her foot and kicked ‘im in the...Fire.” Lolol!! ❤️

I like the version that says "I've been the Devil for most of my life, but I never knew Hell 'till I encountered your wife."
I haven't. (Heard variations of this song) Please, be kind and send it to me. I'd appreciate it and would love it
Please
This should be in the library of Congress
In the hospital with covid in an unfinished basement makeshift room for ICU listening to this song is put a little fight in me I need...I'll be back old Farmer❤🤠
Daddy would play his banjo and sing on the porch and I would be wide eyed. Brings back memories. Thank you.
I really like the sound of this banjo. It has a front porch lazy afternoon sound. Well that what I was thinkin anyway. lol Oh, and the wood on that banjo is beautiful.
Thanks, I made that one myself.

(devil and the farmer's wife)
best description of my little lady ever... and she laughed so hard. becuase she knows its true
Love this song! I discovered it last year in a book of maritime folk songs by Helen Creighton. She compiled a ton of folk songs here in Nova Scotia.
Dang I enjoyed that brother. Thanks
the old man's woman is doom slayer confirmed
Again, wash tub string bass. Epic. This doesn't need the concertina nor accordion.
Can't wait until the remixes!
Can relate to it with my wife!
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Me too but I still love her dearly...God help us both!!!😂
his music opens a portal door too an alien world.
I'm having one of your tunes at my funeral
This song here ain’t meant for Solitude in the Mountains, this song right ‘ere is meant for a couple of buddies, with a few beers by the fire singin’ along. Keep the music flowing!
I can remember that tune from long ago, but the words were a lot tamer. It was an old Scottish tune, I recall. Excellent sir.
I believe twas Scottish and Irish both at once. They come from the same tree Celtic branch. They share similar stories, music, and wit. Slainte.
*branch of the Celtic tree
Screw you fellas for forgotten the Cornish! 😁
I also happen to listen to a lot old traditional Irish music with me being Irish and all and you can just tell by the lyrics in this tune that it has Irish influences
Appalachian music in general. Also, the lilting, and just the witticism I will say. Slainte.
I can imagine the argument that led to the penning of this song.
