It’s a good thing it looks like the Holyoke mall will never die
I love going to the Holyoke mall.
Was just thinking I would be devastated if this happened to the Holyoke Mall. I go there weekly though and it is always SO busy, thankfully!! It would take alot for the Holyoke Mall to die
nothing like the holyoke mall. as my roomie said, "white trash comes in every color at the holyoke mall"
@@VinylScratchienow some quality folks do go to Holyoke Mall. Myself among them.
This was the first mall of my youth. It was such a big deal. We drove 40 minutes to get there when it first opened. I remember being amazed by the fountains and trees INSIDE!
Remember they had parrots?? !!
I use to go quarter hunting in the big fountain for the arcade had to be like 12 never got in trouble for doing it either it was always packed in the 90”s
@@bunnykos9518 I remember them. They took them out when high school kids taught them all to swear.
@@bunnykos9518 I remember that!
Will miss this mall greatly, worked Dream Machine and Radio Shack in the mid/late 90s. Was very tough walking out for the last time! I was there Thursday 6/13 and heard kids in the movie theater. Notified the 1 security officer at the desk and he called Spfld PD, who most likely smashed the glass as they had cruisers parked outside the movie theatre with the plywood removed to get in as I was driving around one last time....thanks for the video, I wasn't sure if they were going to have all doors open Saturday for moveout day. RIP Eastfield Mall!
Man, I would’ve tried to stop by on it’s final day if I was aware that it was closing down that day. The Eastfield mall is a nostalgic place for me.
I grew up in this area and went to this mall a lot but strangely wasn't really bothered by its closing. I did find myself thinking of stores that used to be there when watching your video though.
Oh that is so sad to see the Eastfield Mall dead. Granted, I haven't been there in over 20 years, but wow, so many memories.
Thanks for taking this video on the last day . Sad to see it go .
I spent my childhood at this mall, from my first orange Julius to my first CD purchase in the 80s, there were a lot more water fountains and let’s not forget the Springdale mall across the street
The mall was busy back in the day. It started to die in 2011 when JCPenney close. When Macy’s and Sears closed in 2017 and 2018 respectively, that was the end. The fact that it hung on for 5 more years is a feat.
I always thought it was doomed when McDonald's went out. If can't keep a McDonald's open youre really doing bad
@@eyesofnight There is a McDonalds across the street from the mall. It's still there. I always felt it was redundant.
@@andywolan true. Just like where I live now where there are 2 Dunkin Donuts less than 5 mins from each other
Same with me there is literally a Dublin donuts down the da road as another where I am from
@@eyesofnightor the Yum Yum Chinese Restaurant when it finally closed... takes alot to shut one them down. I would go there in my teens just for Ssbarros pizza dive
That Rainbow Store looked like it was fully stocked like it was just another day of business for them.
Just an FYI. Donavan's is not opening at the Holyoke mall. Its a few miles from it. They are taking over a closed restaurant location called Slainte.
Oh ok. I thought I had read that it was going to the Holyoke Mall.
Aren't they eventually going to open in one of the new store spots where the mall was? Thought they, and old navy was doing that.
Like so many have stated... nothing new really opening there its just stores relocating from different areas of Spfld, like Big Lots is planning
Sad to hear it. I lived a mile down the street from the Fairfield Mall in Chicopee MA. Lost that mall back around 2003 and that was the mall from my childhood. Sad to see another one go. Went to Eastfield Mall a few times a year in the early 2000s.
Fairfield Mall was the best!
Two Guys, Book Smith and Record Smith, Hobby Town, the arcade, York Steak House.
I still have a Levi’s Denim Jacket my parents bought for me at The Gap.
In the late 80s early 90s me and my buddy would go listen to an oldies band called The Saints at Foggies.
Man I miss that place
I had a lot of memories from this Mall old & recent. My cousin actually owned a store in the mall & participated in the New Age Wrestling last year.
The reason why the arcade game where you got the tickets for putting the quarter in is because the quarter is the object that you “shoot” but you don’t actually shoot it you just have to time it so when you put the quarter in, it falls into the hole at the bottom of the ramp. The first time you put your quarter in you were lucky and it went in the hole
Anyone remember the Springdale Mall right across the street where Lowes is now?
This mall used to have a Burger King in the oddest location. About halfway down the mall, the way you came in there would be a very long dark hallway on the left to get to the BK.
What year was that
@@eyesofnight Memories of that go back to the early 80s.
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO enjoyed it blast from he past.
My mother and aunt would bring us there as young children in the late 60's and 70's when it was first opened - very exciting!! I remember getting a prize from the chest at the Flaming Pit restaurant, near the platform that was over water (Santa Claus and Easter Bunny photo location, and i believe where the fountain is in the video), exotic birds cage, Baskin Robin's, Orange Julius, McCrory's(?)department store for toys, Steiger's and Sears, over the years. Thanks for a great walk down memory lane...😊
That mall gives me the kind of nostalgia that makes you feel like you’ve been there as a kid but haven’t actually been to that mall. I’ve been to eerily similar looking malls on the north shore of Massachusetts. I’ve also visited the natick mall as a kid.
this mall and The Holyoke mall were my child hood arcade, KB Toys, Marry Go Round, making a wish on the water fountain, cinema.
i'm we still have The Holyoke mall but it's still sad too see this mall close.
I lost a big part of my child hood here 😥
eastfield mall was the mall in my area . i worked maintenance there in the mid 90s while in high school love that place i will miss it for sure spent alot of time there. i feel like a chooch for not going there before it closed . thanks for posting
Just wanted to say hi to another fellow of my go to word, CHOOCH, for everything and anything😂. Common use in my old place of employment, floored me to just read it
@ 🤣 glad to meet another guy who isn’t a chooch . Happy holidays.
@@Walterliquoriwe seem to be outnumbered by CHOOCHES these days. I find myself designating almost a CHOOCH a day sometimes!
I remember me back when I was four and my dad took me to a small merry-go-round and I road it and they took me a picture of me. I will miss it so much. It was my childhood.
I was there later in the day and got kicked out because they said the mall was already closed. Apparently there was an incident the day before.
So awesome you take your mom with you on your adventures. I can imagine she really enjoys it. I used to frequent this mall through high school. Curious if you have an update if it was demolished?
Thanks for the upload !! I was gonna go . But something else came up.
Glad you liked it. Thanks
This was my first mall until The Mt. Farms Mall was built in Hadley Ma. back in '73 that was next door to me. Only went to the Fairfield Mall once in a while. Bought lots of stuff out of the Sears. Got a chance to visit the mall back in 2021 when they were doing the Covid Vaccine clinic in the old Macy's. It was so sad to see then that I just couldn't bring myself to go back this past July.
Great video. Interesting. They turned off all of the neon on the last day.
I loved this mall growing up... I worked in the old KBToys as well as the XZone while it was there and hung there and even met long time friends there.
All these malls dying!
My Aunt would take me to this mall all the time when I was young - we would have such a nice time.....Just ran across this post. She's been gone for a while now, and now this mall is closing..........Makes me sad.....Steigers was a great store
we would travel down rte 20 from my hometown in Warren to go to what we believed was the greatest mall ever built! Sad to see there going for Online sales VS shopping in person...guess its easier to control
wow memories! watch many good movies, dates and brought my step daughter to see the fountain. the first fountain i ever seen when i was little. Soon Enfield mall will be next :,(
As a kid I remember this place opening. It was the place to go shopping particularly for people living on the east side of Springfield. It was considered very fancy at the time. It’s been dying for years. For the last forty years or so I’ve lived in the north Quabbin area so I didn’t go there often but it would be a couple of times a year. I hadn’t been there since before Covid but even then I decided there wasn’t any reason to ever go back. It’s like seeing part of my childhood die. But then most of the stores I remember from downtown Springfield are also gone.
I remember going to the old, nearly empty Mt. Farms Mall. I would never imagine Eastfield would meet the same fate.
MassLive just reported today they started tearing down the old Cinemark movie theater at Eastfield Mall today. If you want to make a video of the demolition I would get down there as soon as you can. It sucks that there was no prior announcement given about when they would start tearing the place down.
I have so many memories here from 20 years ago. Crazy to see it dead. My first R rated movie, playing DDR in the original arcade etc…. Feels like a different dimension now
This was my go to Christmas shopping mall😢.
I was lost this padt 2 years with Christmas shopping
Can't tell you how many times since I posted this... comment that I have missed the East field mall . Whenever I'm driving and hour or two to get to the nearest mall . Just disgusting nothing but box stores hear in western Massachusetts
I agree. I can't wait to see what they replace it with. Probably more big box stores...
Wasn't sure if you did a video on The Crystal Mall in Waterford, CT?
Yes, I did. About a year ago. I'll probably do an update sometime this year.
Awe i used to get my nails done at tranquility once a month for years when i lived there...i hope those ladies have somewhere to go they were the best🥺
Used to go to arcade here back in the day and play some street fighter, MK and Killer Instinct.
Wow i remember when it opened. A big thing back then!
hey jut a reminder that this mall got replaced with Springfield on September 8 of 2023.So I was wondering can you do a tour if it please?
I don't think there is anything there yet. I think they are still building the new shopping center.
I don't think malls will survive the decade in the US. The US has a lot more retail space than other countries and most people like to shop on-line. The problem seems to be that malls were set up as a novelty destination rather than a place to shop. The novelty wore off.
Well said !!
"The problem seems to be that malls were set up as a novelty destination rather than a place to shop"
That's complete nonsense.
I only been here a couple times as a kid so i dont really have any memories of it. Like i remember going in the dollar store near the front, but i didn’t even know this mall had a movie theater inside.. sad to see it go
Sad ...now Springfield is a complete bore... all that is left is a casino that no one can afford to go to... the mall will be missed once it's gone...as things usually are..
What happened to the Mall? It used to be so busy when I was younger and up until I moved from Spfld. Back in September of 97.
I haven't been back since it closed, but from what I understand it was completely torn down. They are replacing it with a strip mall.
I wouldn't expect much on the last day
Thank you, the should take up all that black top, and return it to a green way maybe.
What camera did you use to film this video? Go Pro? And did you use a gimbal for image stabilization? Video is surprisingly stable for someone walking, and you seem to be operating it hands free on top of that.
Yes. It's a go pro 8. No gimbal. It just has very good stabilization. Only downside is it's not good in low light.
I took one last trip to the Eastfield Mall on 7/11/2023 just 4 days before it closed.
Fond Memories😢❤ Pregnant with 1st child 7/27/99 25 years ago almost to the day of the closing. Lived with my mom in Springfield while she was finshing law school. We would go there often. Never b4 or after❤🎉😢
went there with my mom when i was early teens, she'd park, we'd walk in and basically.. "ok, see you in 2 hours, right here" except usually i'd forget to watch the time, and be in the arcade when i'd see my mother coming and be like, oh no.... usually it just meant, she'd tell me it's been more then 2 hours, and we weren't going next week, or we weren't going get food (which honestly wasn't that bad, just meant instead of fast food i'd get real food when i got home, which was much better... sure wish i still could) but she always knew where i'd be anyway.
i swear the parking lot always looked bad even when it was a busy popular spot.
I was here in 2021 to get my COVID shots. I didnt know it was closing, its so weird to see. I can understand why, though - only reason why so many people were there were for the shots, and they almost immediately left afterward. It felt like a ghost town in the halls.
The pretzel place was fucking fire though, lmao.
They went from a bad ass arcade set up to just a handfull of broken games next to the pretzel place
Where you able to go back for the demo? How is the new place coming along?
With the exception of the Sears building, the mall has been completely demolished. They haven't started building anything yet.
at 0:44 where did that bricked up opening go?
Sears :)
If you want to talk about dead malls look no further across state at the enfield mall. That mall is dead and the only thing keeping it going is the Target. The east field mall during its last months was still relevant compared to enfield malls current status
Someone stole the other 3 basket balls from that game, should be 4 or 5 the last time I was there
Once I was eating at a restaurant with friends, and they had one of those claw machines. A guy in our group played it repeatedly and won almost every time. He had practiced a lot apparently for years, and was really really good at it. The manager started watching him. As if he could be cheating somehow!
I wonder how much money is still in those gumball machines? I think that basketball game is missing a couple of balls! 😂😂 Arent they supposed to have 3 or 5? Such a sad sad arcade!!
How did you get the thumbnail ?? Did they let you back in ??
It's a still from my video. Mall was still open at that time.
The original arcade was where the fitness center was a lot bigger and better thin whatever arcade u where in
It did hang on long enough ( thanks to empty stores) to be a COVID-19 vaccine distribution point.
Is Tom a lefty!
never forget dream machine
I would cut out some of the game playing footage from your video.
I remember when this was built and very popular for so many years. the last time i was there was for the covid vaccine
I watched this mall die over the last 10 years. Me and wife and the kids would shop here and watch a movie on friday nights then eat dinner at golden corel across the street
Hard to believe this is just a dirt lot with construction just starting with new underground infrastructure as of 12/28/2024
Someone probably stole some of the skeeballs as a souvenir
The mall looks to be in pretty good shape inside. But the outside looks really beat up and dated.
Rip Eastfield Mall
It seems that these little strip malls are taking big malls place. Thung is all of them have mostly the exact same stores. They will die a slow death as well.
❤❤❤why is this mall closing is their a reason for it and again another Mall bites the dust what ashamed all because on line shopping ??
Online shopping is killing these malls. Eastfield mall was more of your local neighborhood mall and when online started booming stores in malls
Were losing 💔
Not just online shopping killing malls....
Way too malls, way to much store duplication
Somebody actually already ᴇxplᴏʀᴇd this place.
It’s rubble now.
its very last day. NOT it’s!!!!!
Your correct.
Oh man I missed closing day.
Whatever, good riddance
Good and bad times there lol we had a crazy brawl in “07” in the movie theater waiting to go see rush hour 3 😂 …. To whom ever if ur out there “we won” lol
I remember when rainbow was next door in the smaller store and rainbows used to be dots 🥲
I never knew that Dots became Rainbow! Rainbow’s quality is better that Dots’ ever was.
