  • Just my try at doing this but it seems to have done the trick. I had a swarm near bye and they were scaring away all my Hummingbirds. I couldn't locate the swarm for the "Swarm Catcher" to come and remove it so I watched a few RUclips videos but none were like this typical type so I tried it. BEE GONE !

You need to change the feeder every couple of days and clean it thoroughly. I make the feeder 1 part white sugar and 4 part filter water and change it every other day to prevent any disease that can kill hummingbirds. You can make it less and change it frequently.

This works I just used tulle netting the kind used for making Tutu for ballet costumes. The rubber band worked for me. But I added a small piece on the back just in case .so it fits all around the red part of the flower. I also popped a small hole in front so the hummy could get its peek in to drink . The bees have been checking it out but fly off when they can’t find a way to eat. They were swarming all over yesterday. Now just a few checking it out. Great video it works . I used red Tulle.

The trick is , set the whole feeder down in a mesh bag, easy to take out and clean, keep the damn bees a bay.

Thank you! I took mine down because it was swarming with yellow jackets last year, and I couldn't figure out how to keep them from getting into it! The humming birds still swing in once in a while to see if it's back up... Then just hover and stare at me for a moment before flying away. 😔

buy a few feet of wire screening. cut out patches and glue with cyanoacrylate to cover the large hole. Simple easy cheap. If you are real lazy, buy the screens for Pot smokers and glue them in place either on the outside or inside.
No big deal. Also, use a small cheap feeder stuffed with small bits of cotton- the bees will go to that slow draining thing and leave the other behind. honey bees won't bother you, but the Hummers don't like to feed around them.

I used tulle and rubbed bands . Make the material so it goes around the whole flower then cut off access material. Be sure not too get any material obstructed when you put the flower back on and i popped a small hole on top of the bee guard so the hummingbird can access with its beak it works . Takes a little more time but your hummingbirds are able too eat not the bees. Hummy depend on the feeder it finds and if they can’t get to it they starve if they can’t find another resource other than bugs.

Hey people. Remove the feeders for a couple days and leave a feeder with the ability to just have the tray on the bottom. Fill the container part with water. Put stones in the tray and let the bees and wasps drink from it. Put another water source on the ground with stones…..planter tray or whatever. Then you can put the hummer feeders back up in a different location if possible. The bees and wasps are just looking for a drink. If they have water, they leave the feeders alone. I do this every year in hot hot Oklahoma and I never get bees on the feeders if there is water available in the yard for the bees. They’re just thirsty.

Why not just use twist ties? Cover the whole 'flower' with netting large enough to reach slightly beyond where the 'stem' connects with the reservoir; gather it up and wrap the twist tie around the netting and ' stem'. You can get them free at the grocery store or just save them off of regular usages to reuse.

Being allergic to the stings of bees, wasps, Hornets and yellow jackets, I detest these things. Bumblebees and the small honey bees dont bother you but the others attack for fun in my belief. I've been stung 4 tines by yellow jackets and ended up un Emergency Care ir a real ER 3 times. Carried an eppie pen for years but they expire and now carry Benedryl tabs everywhere per Dr's suggestion. Slam 6 tabs and head to the nearest medical facility.
Now to my actions. I like the mesh idea, bought 1 yd of red mesh at WalMart, .97 cents, cut it to fit and used clear Gorilla tape to hold it in place, looks nicer, but the sob's chewed a hole in the mesh! Off to Hobby Lobby where they have flexible thicker plastic mesh and going to try that. Yes, gonna spend another dollar to try and frustrate these devils. Use my electronic fly swatter often and watching them fry and turn to smoke along with the crackling of electric death is quite satisfying.
Updated report Aug 25, '20. Purchased red, flexible 12x12 sheet of #7 mesh at Hobby Lobby for .67 cents. Small tubes of E6000 adhesive 4 pack for $5. Removed the yellow bee guards, cut mesh to fit, glued in place and then sealed the tubes to the body of the feeder, no drips. VICTORY!! (So far).😊

By the way, I don't use poison but I have used hair spray to "freeze" hornets. Obviously I don't spray swarms, just the nuisance that decides to bother me while I'm sitting on my deck.😏

@@thaigrass Unless you are a PhD researcher into bird digestion, you're reading the internet same as everyone else, and I see ratios of from 3:1 to 5:1. Nature isn't really that precise, so 4.00000 to 1.0000 isn't written on any stone tablet. Relax, they do just fine. If you prefer, experiment with slightly more dilute mixes ( 4.319: 1 ?) until the bees leave it alone. Bees aren't that precise either. And if you REALLY "follow science" you'll find 10 opinions per every 7 scientists. Many environmental factors are involved in ANY "ideal" result.
