I look at it with the mind set that I just need to try to stay one step ahead and just keep fishing. Keep finding new spots and new tactics in the event the existing spot will inevitably get blown up. I've been in situations several times where I've told folks exactly what I'm doing and how Im doing it and they simply just struggle to replicate it -and don't catch fish.

As someone who's never fished with a live scope, I can't speak from experience. However, I do believe that to an extent it is a bit cheap after watching so many videos on it. I think it definitely takes away from the fishing experience. I can see why someone would want to use it. For example: chasing suspended fish in bays during summer (namely large pike or muskies). Overall I think FFS is a bit game breaking. I haven't used it before though, so I can't say. I typically just use a standard 2000's sonar.

Aaron, usually don’t comment on videos. Saw a lot of people curious on whether this was a forward facing sonar pro or against video. While it may be clear to you or others, I think we need to do a better job at making it obvious. Livescope is a tool, we can use it positively or negatively, if we use it to limit out every day on the water, we will probably see a decrease in fish quality and eventually quantity. If we use it to keep a few, and pair it with good handling and releasing fish well, the decrease would be minimal- if even measurable.
On a separate note I am in agreement with one of the gentlemen on how tournaments are severely affecting fish populations. Everytime I have gone to a lake the day of or day after a tournament I find so many dead bass because their keeping them in a live well, and hauling them around all day and the fish can’t handle that level of stress. The catch photo and release tournaments should be the standard. Why have a weigh in 5 hours later when you can measure them and have a digital leader board.
Cheers, a fly fishing, pond hopping, lake running , river running livescoper ❤

Aaron makes some great points about mortality not been taken seriously for tournaments and other events, thats why the catch, photo release seems like the way of the future.
I understand the concern about the resistance to technologies like LiveScope. I'll be honest I have never used one, but ever since it came out I haven't been a big fan of how much it reveals and it's changes it is making to fishing. I do believe that LiveScope used on a large scale by a large percentage of anglers will have damaging effects on some fisheries, i could be wrong. But if you don't think so, you can go back a couple years to a Jay Siemens video were he did a demo of the LiveScope, after he used the LiveScope he concluded that regulations will have to be changed to adapt to the new reality, and that new reality is it will be easier to find fish and target them more precisely. Im not sure if Jay would say the same thing now that the controversy has blown up, but his 1st take if im remembering correclty was this is gonna require regulation changes so the fisheries are kept in good shape.
Aaron's video this winter on picking through a Crappie school is a good demonstration on how you can really take advantage of the information LiveScope provides.
So as long as we are having an honest convo about the possible negative side effects of LiveScope, I am here for both sides and what has to be said.

We use to watch/follow fisherman channels here to learn more. The electronics that have arrived over the years have never impacted the learning content but that changed with the arrival of live technology. Slight exaggeration- Most creators have become “lazy” imho. Vids have become “Live technology centric”. Get on the water, tape myself casting/catching but make viewers stare at the Live Scope through the whole thing, post video, done.
Many creators are still doing more than forcing us to stare at their Live Scope etc but they are the few.

How does encouraging lots of new people to fish with very little skill or knowledge help the industry? I've seen more fish die by idiot anglers recently than ever before. Him sharing waters out in our parks and hidey holes has done more damage to those areas than any 100 other anglers. I've never seen Manitoba waters fished and treated with such disregard and people just wanna make videos of all these great spots and how to crush fish there. For the price of a few fishing licenses we sacrificed our environment. All good if ur there for the crowds and not the fish.

Aaron I'm truly impressed by your journey navigating the ethics of recreational angling over the years. All of us get there, some faster than others. The edits of the bass guys realizing the impact and talking about it needs to be echoed across the internet because its the fuckin truth. Thank you for using your platform for good educational content. I speak from higher education in the field of fisheries management and environmental ethics: in the end its all animal cruelty for personal pleasure unless you are aiming to harvest and consume fish from a well managed fishery. The only ethical way to enjoy angling is to treat fisheries as a sustainable natural resource, just as our ancestors did. There is nothing wrong with FFS as long as it is used to that end and not to constantly target and harass trophy fish while they are spawning or hiding. Anything else is contrived anthropocentric mental gymnastics to justify cruel and disrespectful behavior. The modern industry driven push for recreational angling, the fake macho outdoorsman pop culture that comes with it, and the bullshit "science" that supports it as a conservation movement is just greenwashed profiteering. We all need to realize this and stop playing into the hand of the industry.

@joshwagner5414 anglers been doing that for years with regular 2D and DI sonar. If I'm sharp shooting big walleye I'm not dropping down unless I see bigger marks, I don't have FFS.

Love your stuff, Aaron. Killer day on the water by the way. Great work. I love how you focused your criticism on: (1) the hypocrisy of "the older guys" on technology and many other things, such as with Kevin VanDam and many others who profited greatly from pushing product that they all of the sudden have issues with, and (2) the subject of guys who think FFS makes you a better angler vs. guys who think it makes you more incompetent due to reliance on tech. You're a great fisherman, and so for you the use of FFS augments your abilities. However, there are also lots of guys out there using FFS to catch fish that are complete dunderheads without the tech (guides included).
Although I think these two key points are great in your video, I also think that the focus of the FFS discussion should be about how the ever-increasing use of FFS technology will impact the fisheries. You touch on this a bit in the video, but it's anecdotal observations and opinions (either for or against). More FFS usage means more fish being caught, more handling of fish, more mishandling of fish, more delayed mortality of fish (especially hot water temp and/or deep-caught fish), more harvest of fish, more social media content creation showing its use (just like you're doing), bringing further attention to the fish, the list goes on and on. All of this brings increasing pressure onto the fish, which is not good. It's not rocket science. You're acting in your self interest creating this content, just like Kevin VanDam and the others did in the past when they were doing their things.
I understand what some of the older guys are saying regarding how FFS (and other technologies) "shortcuts" anglers (especially younger ones) with regards to their knowledge and how it's developed. I'm not saying this is bad, but I understand where they're coming from. This in turn changes how the average FFS fisherman thinks. As an example, most content creators don't talk about taking care of the resource and protecting it. That includes you sometimes. For example, this video here was about showcasing your performance at a walleye tournament through the use of FFS. Not once did you talk about conservation in the video or your efforts to do so. I thought you did great releasing the walleye quickly, but you need to emphasize that and talk about it, especially since you have a large audience. Became a champion for that, too, not just for FFS discussion. We know you care about it, so do it in each video with at least a mention.

I just got back from my guiding season and saw I missed an Uncut Video... had to click immediately.
Incredible video.... hypocrisy is real... and it is negative. You know what else is negative? Driving down an interstate with children in the vehicle while filming a video! Couldn't belive that footage!
Second point.... I use FFSand I still suck at fishing. My platform shoes don't make me tall either. Technology has limits to what it can compensate for.
And finally, thanks for the Nates Baits mention near the end. I thought I recognized that shiner.
