@@nicarnold I don’t think that there is one route for everyone. But you explain your way and a lot of beginning creatives look for examples and inspirations. I mean I see so many people doing video while their work just don’t match the success they pretend to have acquired over the years but your ref. and your inner thinking definitely justifie the legitimacy of being admired upon.
I'm a grpahic design student and i find this video incredibly inspiring! thank u! I hope that we can share this new journey together! Can't wait for the next episode!
Yo Esteban! Thank you so much. I hope you can keep a secret but there are four episodes wrapped but unedited as of yet. I am on the road shooting two more episodes right now. However, I am also a dad of two and a freelance designer. I am aiming to release the next video within 3-4 weeks!
As an A1 owner my journey has been similar (I've owned the 500CM) BUT if you want the next level challenge go Large Format Film. It's where it's at! Riddled with challenges that after 1 year I am still facing but I love it.
I know! Curious to get my hands on one of these in the future but I am also lucky to have access to a couple of super interesting and challenging medium format camera systems other than the Hassy before moving on to large format. This is a long term project. Nice and slow!
It is actually crazy though, that your first video pops up in my FYP. We have pretty similiar interests but it still is your first video ever and i never saw you anywhere before. Congrats on braking the algorithm!
David! It really means a lot. I am just starting to figure all this out over here. No intention to try and make this big especially with those sort of unpredictable algorithms these days. I just want this to be a cool little place for likeminded people to share some experience along the way. Glad to have you here. Can’t wait to edit the next episode once I am back from the holidays!
Was blown away when I paused the video and looked at your subscriber count. Truly inspiring stuff and really looking forward to anything else you share with us.
Dude I can’t tell you how happy I am about all the warm and welcoming comments and feedback. This is so much more rewarding than subscriber and view count. Let’s make this a place for the cool kids. 🖤
Photographer and new cinematography student here, and oooh man I absolutely adore this video in its entirety. I am still relatively new to the video scene of the camera world, but I can tell just by the video production and quality that you will go very, very far with your future videos. Please keep the videos coming, I've already watched all of your others and I'm extremely excited to see what you share to the world!
Aww, that’s far too kind! Glad to have you here. I am trying to pump out one episode a month to keep it sustainable and healthy. However, it is quite a grind being a full time freelance art director and a father of two. Takes about a week or so to script, shoot, develop, edit, post process and color grade these.
I subbed half way through the video. I rarely subscribe to channels without watching 3 videos at the very least ... unless the video's special. Now this is SPECIAL.
I just got into 35mm 6 months ago and have really enjoyed the process. Looking forward to trying my hand at medium format photography soon. I love film and hope it’s resurgence continues to grow so we can keep that choice.
Dude that’s exactly what I’ve been thinking with each and every RUclipsr for the past years. Flip the switch and just do it. I am sure you’re gonna have fun. Also, I guess I was just blessed by the algorithm.
@@nicarnold thank you so much for giving me hope ❤️🙏❤️🙏 I hope I can thank you enough later in the future when I get a successful channel... I hope you get up there in the millions subbed category channels ❤️🙏✈️
Damn this video is really inspiring! I loved your story from where you started to now and how you showed the pictures in the end taken with different cameras. It’s marvellous to see that it doesn’t really matter for any of the pictures which photographic device you used (the iPhone 6 shot really took me by surprise!). Also surprised this is your first video so looking forward to future video’s already!
This was crazy good! Good luck on your film photography journey. Film is a bit too expensive for me to get into, but I enjoy watching it on the sidelines. Looking forward to the next video!
I know! The money hurts. But it makes you REALLY think about taking your next shot which is s good thing. And it all comes back to the way you shoot digitally after all. Glad to have you here!
Great first video. Subscribed. I used to use an older Hasselblad (1000F), and I loved the experience for all the reasons you talked about. I still have the camera but unfortunately the shutter mechanism failed and nobody will service old focal plane shutter models any more (not even Hasselblad themselves), so it has become simply an ornament.
You could try doing your own developing, you can get some very interesting effects using outdated film and using different temperatures and developing times. If used enough you will grow into the Hasselblad. Seeing properly exposed 6x6 slides on a light box is a delight.
Looking forward to experimenting with that thing. Usually it doesn’t take me very long to start using a tool in a way it’s actually not meant to be used. Already have a couple of ideas but that’s more to do with what’s in front of the lens.
Thanks a ton Georg! Well, I am obviously a bit ahead of you regarding what’s to come and let me put it like that: it’s not the next Bruce Weber. But I’ll do my very f*ing best to compensate it documenting the drama in the most cinematic way I am able to deliver.
Good listening too all that. The stuff you make it brilliant , noticed a shortys skateboard top did you skate ? Got a mamiya 6x6 which use sometimes, basically most the photos are rubbish but it’s quite fun wondering what they could be.
Used to skate when I was in school. These are my daughters. A friend of mine owns a Mamiya C330 and is getting stellar results but it is quite hard to nail focus with these type of cameras indeed. Metering is crucial. Keep going!
That's one crazy cool portfolio of work you have there, curious to see your trials and tribulations with analog gear. :) Makes me wish I still had my Hasselblad. I let it go, like the idiot I am..
Beside all cameras that I used. And I also worker with a lot. The Hasselblad imo is the best camera ever made in terms of optics as well. The characteristics it gives you are stunning!
@@nicarnold yes and compared to those easy automatic handling cameras from sony etc, the hasselblad will always be a camera that is hard to handle because it just requieres time to set focus and set the frame etc. and of course there are other moudular cameras like the 500cm but in terms of optics its always something special about it, especially with the wide angled lenses.
Funny, I just put out my first video in several years and I have watched all the videos in your intro. I focus on drawing and digital painting, primarily, so I don't at all consider myself a photographer or videographer. That being said, I have a collection of old cameras and vhs/beta camcorders because they're so fun to play around with. Subbed.
Yeah I mean then again at what point do you consider yourself a professional? Is it when you’re making money with a profession? In that case I probably am a pro camera user. But I am completely self taught like many of us and it feels weird to call myself a pro with no education in photography whatsoever. It’s the beauty of our generation to have access to all of these tools and basically just experiment with it. Glad to have you here!
Subscribed! Been there and I went back to film after working with REDs and all sorts of other high end gear. Still shoot digital occasionally, but film is a lot of fun. It’s where you throw other chemicals into the developing chemistry or pre soak the film in chemicals before processing. Just be sure to do this yourself and do not send a souped film to a lab. It can mess up other people’s orders.
Heard about souping. It’s kinda interesting but also very lo-fi which is not exactly what I am going for usually. But I am totally open to jamming with all sorts of odd experimentations.
