How does shaft diesels, full keel, shallow draft and long range sound to you? If it's a capable platform that's already proved herself with around 70 hulls built then this Scimitar is worthy of your attention.
This is a boat for the Aussie or American explorer who's already done the 4X4 thing and is now ready to see the world from a whole different perspective. Ex Sailors who appreciate healthy fuel consumption and basically anyone who know's what they want out of their boat life and understands that over complicated platforms are not ideal for remote location cruising.
Scimitar has a great story and a bright future under her new stewardship. If you have a dream in mind then this Scimitar 1010 is likely able to get you there.

Lots of space.
Great personalization options.
No nonsense engineering.
I'd name it, The Puddle Pirate.
What my retired army son calls me for being in the Coast Guard.
And me and my 3 sea dogs, Raskl, Navu, and BB,
would raid pilage and plunder ye landluber coasts.
ARRGH
The Sedan is PERFECT for The Great Loop!
Yes the sedan would be perfect for that!
Stunning build quality and layout & so practical.
Nice boat! You should do a series of 150k usd and under boats. 25-30ft.
Nice catamaran, a bit plain perhaps. Newer catamarans tend to have much more comfortable cockpits with built-in seating. I would definitely prefer a Leopard 40 over the Scimitar -- the Leopard has a well-thought out standard lower helm, and a very useful door from the forward end of the salon to the foredeck. One head for six passengers will not work for a lot of people. Thanks for the tour.
No teak = good. Just blast everything with a gerni.
That mold under the benches looked a bit iffy.
Being able to beach it and not sweat about hitting sandbars around Moreton Bay a big plus. And means easy to do your own hull and prop cleaning with haulout costs.
You could make do as a starter liveaboard, although storage looks pretty ordinary. But not for $1m.
I think those single berth's would be good for removable storage/wardrobe and a lot of the messy stuff (fishing gear etc) could go out back. With today's boat prices $1M AUD is actually very affordable. I think our dollar just isn't worth what it used to be
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife fair.
Looks very practical something new will grow I’m sure ❤❤
Looking at Lake Boats for Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee areas and retirement. I like simple and plain - seems kinda brilliant to me. This would be an ideal weekender for exploring a lake with uninhabited islands👍😎
Didn't these come out about two or three decades ago? I went on one once. It was about a 2m following sea and 15knt of wind. It constantly wanted to round up and cavitate. Pleasant and easy were not words that came to mind.
I guess a following sea especially if it’s short wave period will never be comfortable on a cat. I’ve also been in conditions like this on a Lagoon 380 and we had a similar experience. That taught me a lesson on what sea states to avoid if I wanted to enjoy myself 😅
How do you check the engine oil and water, on your knees?
This would be excellent for a couple on America’s Great Loop. Plenty of living space, plenty of range, easy to operate.
I was thinking the same thing
100% agreed! It's also quite easy to get the hang of driving around the dock.
Hi Dan. Interesting boat this one....... smacks of Whitsundays or Great Sandy Strait hire boat to me. Who wouldn't want to while away a week or so just pottering? Seems a little pricey though considering the basic spec and fitout. Thanks for the tour. S
Yes Whitsunday's for sure! With today's boat prices it's actually what I would expect for made in Australia
Michigan checking in! Looks like a great boat for the great lakes! It tends to get chilly up here! Other than that id like to give one a try!! Do you have any in the great lakes?? Thunder Bay area
We sailed around the WhitSundays in a 1010 in 1999. It was awesome.
Peter Brady has a good eye and knows how to design efficient cats .
LOVE IT 1000%
I would want the hard top, with solar.
The cushions give that luxurious look..
Just needs outboard engines. No fly bridge.
Interesting point... That might be a good conversation I could have with the designers one day
Would be a right pain in the arse pulling those yanmah’s out when the time comes, unless that rear hatch is bigger than it looks
A face only a mother could love.
Haha yeah I mean this design has been around for ages. They have a new design on the drawing board which will be built in alloy and looks interesting
Love it
I really like the sedan version and how they have done the interior, the problem is on the exterior from the gunwales up it screams 1980's Bayliner.
I wonder if they could change the windows to modernise it without having to change the mould..?
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Needs to be something like Turkish built tunacatamarans discovery 40
Nice looking boat, here is my two cents worth after having looked at a few power cats and sail cats, the interior looks a bit spartan like the big three charter cats, possibly the platinum version has a teak and holly sole and some joinery if that's what you like, (I am now looking at Nordhavn's) I love the transom as it is the most usable I have seen as I would be using part time for deep sea fishing and diving. The 110 yanmars are trawler size? correct? another plus as far as I'm concerned, no need to go fast in retirement!. I would like large fuel tanks, possibly enough range to cross oceans? I don't need or care for the flybridge, prefer solar up there and possibly a davit and dinghy. Three feet draft seems a bit much? some of the competition is half that. (the Bahamas would be my main hangout) Love the head location, away from the beds. Are the hulls symmetrical or asymmetrical? many cat hulls are asymms and this is a rougher ride, the old Glacier Bays had symmetrical hulls that is the one they crossed the pacific ocean with. I would prefer another 8 to 10 feet for LOA? Not having sail drives is a big plus, shafts are problem free.
Can I ask a question as to why opening up the aft engine bay from under the bed there is water under the engine ????
Shouldn't this be dry ? If not how is water getting into the engine bay on the bottom of the hull please ?
As when in forward travelling OR reverse in conditions that water will be splashing against the engine and all other things down there creating electrolysis and deterioration to everything.
From Florida, I think the one public bathroom would be a deal breaker for me. Not a fan of the wet head. Otherwise seems very nice and decently appointed.
If I could afford a boat like this,I would turn it into a little sport fishing unit with a small tower on the top ! 👍🏼
Could look cool 😎
Id love this in the Chesapeake Bay.
Yeah sounds nice
Looks good enough for Florida to the Bahamas
Good weekender
Dan, this boat is screaming "Bahamas!" "Southwest Florida!" "Florida Keys!" "Florida East Coast!" Haven't seen the sea trial yet (range, speed, sea kindliness) so don't know how 'Loop' suitable. Why not bring a baker's dozen of these to the FIBS and watch them be gobbled up. Love the simple layout, practical design features. How suitable do you think folks along the Queensland Coast would find this boat?
G'day Jack! I actually had an old brokerage client who bought a used one of these and drove it from NZ back to Australia (1,100NM open ocean). The new owner of Scimitar also bought a used model in PNG and drove it back to SE Qld which is like going from Nova Scotia to Miami. So yes these boats have traditionally been operated by cruising couples in Aus who was reliability due to the remote places they go and inability for outside support.
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Wow! Big trips for a 36' Cat. Impressive. Thanks, Dan.
I love this boat 🚢 this boat I love ❤🎉
Wow love the range and speed. But too wide to do the rivers of france, 5m max. Around the med and european rivers is my goal. Interior door to bow would work, add a door to the swim platform at the little opening. Good space but looks like a hospital room.
I think when it comes to the interior you could speak to them about preferences. Also they have the platinium version which i'm posting another video about soon. Around the Med (minus the rivers) would be awesome!
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife while the interior can be done, the beam (5m) cannot. 5m is the max for french rivers.
Needs transom door to swim platform, dingy davits, covered cockpit, molded stairs instead of ladder, one of the beds should be an island as no-one likes to roll over someone else to pee, optional lower helm with door would be nice.
Brilliant in its simplicity, but one head and you have to add everything makes this boat way to expensive.
Mostly love it.....but like so many fly bridge boats, its a hell of a long way from the helm to either the side or the bow....try getting in a berth or picking up a mooring solo!!!
Well designed rental boat for the budget minded tourist. Comes with cooking utensils.
Yep to be fair it would make a great charter platform
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
Dan thanks for never allowing bias into your commentaries.
So many boating channels, it's all he him bloke…
If a woman is even acknowledged, it's only to discuss the merits of the gallery or how easily she can help the man dock or set the anchor.
And don't get me started on his and hers stateroom storage assumptions…
I live on an island, I own a boat, want a bigger boat, and want to share it with my girlfriend. Most boat channels erase that as a concept.
Maybe it's because you're a fellow Aussie and society here isn't a binfire like certain other countries?
Very close to Peel Island! Looking at Straddie from my lounge…
Sing out if you need a deckie, camerahand, registered drone pilot!
Oh no worries Ashley. I’m always meeting women on boats so it doesn’t seem like it’s only an activity for blokes.
It's appealing but it all depends on the price. Could do with master Ensuite and a galley dishwasher; otherwise I really like it
This model is specifically aimed at Aussies and simplicity. I’ve seen their new designs and this concept is coming
That upper helm station is cheaply made, need something a little more substantial
Agreed, get it somewhere like the Whitsundays with short sharp chop and that helm would rattle itself too pieces in no time, I do like the idea of being able to tuck it away though when not in use
I'm a cat fan.
Needs a bigger marl8n board Preferably one that lowers into the water
The Platinum edition has that. I’ve filmed another video on that
Dan, thank so much for this nice presentation. How much is this vessel please? Can I put air conditioning on it?
Approx $660k USD in Australia so add transport etc for other countries. Yes A/C would be no problem as they have multiple genset and solar options
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Thank you very much.🙏🙏🙏
5:46 inside. A little slow ...
No lower helm 😕 oh, available option.
day head takes prime real estate
How much?
About $660K USD in Australia plus shipping etc to other countries. Although now i think of it, i think we have free trade agreement with USA so maybe less complicated to ship to US?
She is a honey.
Good boat but you keep jumping from one place to another and it seems like we’re not seeing it in the best form !
I’ll put a barbecue in the flybridge.
What's the range on this boat?
Donate for a Dream
but you lose all that undercabin...hm...
Stardildo is just a troll what prob'ly hasnt even got a john boat.
ONE head .. for 6 to 8 persons 😳😆😎
and it ventilates to the fly .. plus it spoiles the lounge/saloon view and feel .. poor design, just people storage 😑
If you’re buying this boat, you can’t afford this boat lol.
Your RUclips handle is hillarious lol ...
not very practical, pricey. for a cool million , surely there are better propositions.
I'm referring to the systems onboard and they way they have been designed for ease of maintenance. Also i'm speaking to people with a bit more of a cruising focus instead of day boating
"Boring" is what comes to mind for me. I'm feeling absolutely zero sense of quality or desirability.
And the head right next to the galley and by the dining area? No thanks!
That’s ok, no boat will suit everyone. This concept is focused on keeping things simple and very much around an outdoors Aussie style of boating in Queensland.
For a $950,000 boat. It's not worthwhile for me..
I guess I just remind myself what $1M AUD buys these days. I’m testing a 32ft day boat today that’s base price is $1M AUD and most 1 bedroom apartment’s where you would want to live are about the same too. Seems like the Aussie dollar just isn’t worth what it once was…?
The weather in Florida doesn't make it a practical boat . To bad .
why is that?
@@JayRSwanthey need AC down there, they can’t live without it
So they have multiple genset and solar options for A/C. You'll find the weather in North Queensland is actually very similar to Florida.
Too.
@@robdurfee6861 my boat also had neither and now it has both. Probably better then whatever less efficient versions came on it from factory. It even runs on 48volts if I want to turn off the generator.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife This is a good basic platform for a cruising couple ?
Allows to a lot of personal freedom for almost any kind of cruising taste. Unfortunately no decent space for garage, workshop and on board office.
This is a completely naked and barefoot girl, WAY OVER PRICED. Unfortunately Not a No NONSENSE PRICE.. They should calculate their profit margin based on production costs and not on 14 people charter capacity. That´s of course if they wanna sell to cruising couples. I wonder if they have ever thought about what a cruising couple would expect from a 650.000 $ boat. That starts with full OFF GRID capacity. That´s measured in cruising range and autonomy. Add a full climate package for the tropics
.
Pity it's not built of aluminium....
650k for this shitty cat. A Bali Smartcat 38 is half the price and twice the practicality and quality!!!
I haven’t tested a Bali so can’t honestly offer any opinion until I have.
Looks pretty cool - what's the general price point?
About $660K USD in Australia and add more for shipping etc to other countries
Practical 😂 not at all...
Simple IS practical most times. What’s so funny?
I guess the people i'm speaking to in this video are more of the cruising couple type and not the day boat people you normally see me filming videos for. Also i'm referring to the simplicity of the systems that leave little to break down and provide some redundancy.
Wribg superlative nkt practice al dubt knots boat hserds go threght
@@sharonbraselton3135What language is that? Care to translate to English?
I think this boat is pretty incredible. Practical beyond any other 36 foot cruiser. Simplicity is the name of the game with a single head as many beds as possible plenty of protection, shallow draft, and I’m guessing the option to upgrade it. It may not have all the bells and whistles, but anyone owned a boat for 10 or 15 years can see that that’s would be very easy to maintain, service and eventually replace any of those systemsfor relatively low cost compared to any other fancy production vote. Well done! Send me one! Great cruising in New England in the USA just a little too far to take it on its own!
