61000 Infantries you got surrounded, they also have additional 6000 cav, so that almost 70k in a pocket! That's not yet include 130 (26 squad I assume) of T-26s.
I wonder if it would be better to conserve your forces by waiting to attack until after they had been surrounded for awhile to lose strength to minimize your losses. You will need your forces later as the Soviets build up their strength with additional forces.
There's definitely a balance to be struck between force preservation and how fast to advance. I think going pretty hard against the initial Soviet armies which have defensive maluses is a fair thing to do.
As karlito says, it's a real tug-of-war between going quickly and sparing your forces. In my experience (so not necessarily correct/optimal!), pushing hard in the beginning is good to save yourself tougher fights later.
Oh I don't think we can maintain this for long. At some point a magical line will be crossed, when our units are losing strength and SOV forces are more combat effective, and our advances will stall.
Looks really fancy. Im stuck with WitE for some time. I have to invest a lot of time for all the mechanics but the level of details are overwhelming sometimes. HiO3/HiO4 is in my pov not really compareable with these kind of games because you have RTS and then TBS. Both have their plus and minus points kind of. Please keep playing this here. :)
I THOUGHT you were going to fill the Finnish line (farthest north) with units, BUT, you counted 5 from the HQ and just left a huge hole? So if that Soviet unit up there moves NW, would that make the one Finn out of command radius? Guess we'll see what the wily Soviets do!
The short answer: I don't know. More: I hadn't thought of it that way. My guess is "lost", although I think I'd rather think about it that a unit has a max strength TOE and the replenishment seeks to achieve that (otherwise you wouldn't have a division, you'd have... I dunno, a division + a brigade or such). But from a gaming min/max standpoint, I'm not sure how the mechanics work and whether there might be an optimal amount of losses that will be replaced. It could also be related to the burden on logistics (train + truck) to replace these, meaning replacements punish you in other ways.
That 61k encirclement had me seeing dropping helmets infront of my inner eye.

Fantastic series! I love your attention to detail. Don't ever change it :)
Thank you!
Gotta love being able to dissolve pockets the same turn you make them, unlike a certain other game simulating warfare on the eastern front...

@@karlitohomeswhat's malus?
@@NoNameAtAll2 the Soviet troops start in an offensive posture so their defense is reduced.
@@NoNameAtAll2 malus = a negative modifier. The opposite to "buff".
I'm loving this. Please keep posting.
Very interessting game, if there a summary of all losses? I hope you can maintain your speed a the breaktroughs. Keep it up

Thanks for the video! It's a fun one, especially with that pocket cleared.
Finally episode 3!

If you know wite, that's already a great game for this. In a lot of ways better because of the detail. The problem is learning it :)
very nice game cant wait for the next episode
More than 110k losses on the soviet side just through encirclement and the turn isn’t even over yet - just so brutal.
wish there was a POW and WIA mechanic instead of just, yea everyone died.

I'm not sure myself. I don't know if it's within 5 hexes, or within 5 hexes by traveling through friendly territory. We will see!
Q - if your total losses are less than the replenishment tick, are the remaining replacements 'lost', or do they get added to overstrength the unit?
The short answer: I don't know.

@@TortugaPowerPretty sure they'll just pile up in the strategic HQs. It works like the replacement system in Advance Tactics.
@@karlitohomes This is true. They stay in reserve at HC in Berlin. That unit has detailed tabs on replacements stored, requested and sent out.
