Should the Cavs break it up???

  • The Cleveland Cavaliers have a roster full of redundancy.
    But does it matter?
Bringing back the ‘core 4’ of Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen might be the best move for the Cavs in the short and long term.
But they’re not really the redundancy that you should be worried about. It’s the supporting role players, particularly on the perimeter that have overlapping size, skills, and roles that leave significant holes and don’t help mitigate the weaknesses of playing with the core 4.
That’s why the Cavs doing nothing thus far in the NBA offseason is not ideal.
In an Eastern Conference that is loading up and getting more competitive, the Cavaliers front office seems to be banking on internal development and a coaching change as the path forward.
As fans, we have to hope they’re right. But you’re right to be concerned.

The core 4 can work. But they need a 3-D wing with size to connect them. Then the rest of the roster can make more sense in rotations as minutes are staggered. But the revolving door of 6’5 shooting guards being forced to play up so much is always going to be a challenge with this group. Easier said than done.

    Mitchell 6'1
    Garland 6'1
    Strus 6'3
Thats a high school basketball lineup. I cant do it no more. Im tired of the small gaurd front court. It never worked in nba history and it never will

While that’s a bit extreme, I do understand your point. But this team did make the 2nd round last year. And I like them all as individual players. We just need to see the Cavs plug some holes in the supporting cast instead of stacking similar size/talented players.

@@who.won.sports they barely made it to the second round.. Orlando should had the game in the bag. Cavs were overwhelmed by their size. Orlando bullied the cavs with their size. The cavs came back from 20 points or should i say Donovan came back from 20. This would have been 2 years in a row where the cavs got booted in the 2nd round. The team played so much better when Garland was hurt and Mitchell was bringing the ball up the court as he did in Utah. Garland is not good playing off ball. The Cavs are trying to change him into that and it doesnt works. Its clear Mitchell wants to play pg. Get rid of Garland

I’m not against moving Garland. I like him a lot. But the fit is clunky and he doesn’t defend. But you can’t just trade him for the sake of trading him. You have to get something back that actually makes you better. I don’t think that deal is out there right now.
