I’m Portuguese American and I visit Portugal every few years. Out of all the European countries I’ve visited, I found the Portuguese to be very accommodating and unusually helpful. The UK, particularly London reminds me a lot of NYC, except London is much prettier. Like NYC, the average person can be rather moody and curt. London is awesome. You can find just about anything you want there, they even have a Whole Foods! Yay! As soon as you venture outside of London everything can be very inconvenient. These little towns they call hamlets or whatever are cute but omg it’s hard to find everyday things like pre-workout or a local Sephora to stock up on toiletries.
Being Portuguese too, the weirdest thing I saw when I first arrived in the UK was the use of child harness! I admit it is a safety item, especially with kids that are always running away, but, after 21 years of living here, I still find it weird.
First time I asked a beer on the tap the barman told me it was lager (didn't know what that meant! LOL). I said "OK" and then he asks me, "do you want a pint or an half-pint"? LOLOLOL... Being used to just using the metric system, now I was really confused. He noticed that and he just pulled two different glasses from under the counter. I just said, "big one, please!" LOL
Carpets will protect you from the cold flowing upwards from the floor. Bricks are completely different from ours too, as well as the construction process. This all has to do with the UK's climate being much colder than ours, and insulation is prioritised. Nowadays, many new houses have heated floors, which means that wooden laminate flooring and even ceramic floor tiles have now replaced carpets in most rooms.
We have carpet because it's bloody cold haha

Quando foste para UK tiveste que tirar algum curso de inglês?
Demoraste quanto tempo para começares a começares a universidade?
Bom, eu posso dar-te essa dica.. eu sou de Lisboa e vivi 11 anos em Inglaterra (e fui para fazer a Universidade), 8 em Londres... e diria ires para Lisboa! É bem mais dificil entrar numa Universidade pública, tens de ter notas mesmo boas, mas os cursos sao muito mais abrangentes e rigorosos.. melhores! Além de Lisboa ser linda, as pessoas muito boa onda, e a lingua ser portugues! :)
..em Inglaterra é mais fácil, ás vezes só o portfolio basta.. mas nao acho o ensino melhor (fama nao é sempre proveito).
Além de ser mais caro, irias precisar de trabalhar ao mesmo tempo e ainda ter um empréstimo bancário de estudante (que por si só é fácil como Britanico, menos fácil conseguir como Europeu, e mais dificil como Africano).
Certo.. o curso iria ter mais reconhecimento a nível global.. (mas novamente... nem sempre por teres adquirido mais conhecimento das coisas)..
A Inglaterra especialmente está bem menos acolhedora com estrangeiros desde o Brexit, e o preco de alojamento está nas nuvens... além do ceu cinzento, a chuva, o péssimisto e as más condicoes de vida em alojamento barato... na verdade a única cena que te safa é o humor Britanico e bem estar do pessoal que lá vive, provavelmente o mais internacional do mundo.. fazer amigos lá é fácil, e o teu Ingles vais melhorar muito rapidamente, que por si só já é excelente!
Para entrar na Universidade lá, vais ter de enviar uma carta de interesse ou telefonar diretamente para a Universidade (se tiveres dúvidas vai à embaixada Britanica primeiro)..
Logo aí eles sabem se tens Ingles o suficiente... se nao, eles pedem-te para mostrar notas de um curso que já tenhas feito, ou (se já tiveres Ingles razoável) sugerem fazer aulas de Ingles durante o curso... normalmente nao é um obstáculo nao ter curso de Ingles se puderes falar Ingles basicamente...
A experiencia de viver (especialmente em Londres, Manchester, Brighton, Bristol ou Southampton por exemplo) é fantástica! Só por isso vale a pena..
Mas se ainda nao conheces Lisboa, experimenta, é uma cidade incrível, com sol e praia.. Nao te sentes noutra cultura... é mais sentires-te noutro país e no entanto em casa!
