I just bought my Happy Planner BIG Teacher Planner yesterday! I love that you can punch holes and make ANY important document go into the planner and then just slip it out when you’re finished with it. If you value flexibility, Happy Planner is the way to go.
As a high school teacher, that plum paper planner is what i have been looking for. I use the Happy Planner but i always have to change around the days of the week because i need to follow days not subjects. Excellent review Heather.
I am not a teacher but have 2 children with IEPs and now that they will be in all Gen Ed classrooms with co-taught classes for their core subjects, I feel the need to help them track all their assignments to make sure they are able to keep up especially with make-up work. I will be getting a Plum Paper Planner for each of them but have to decide if I want a teacher planner (middle/high school layout 3) with added checklists, note pages or just the ME Planner (looks like a lesson planner but has all 7 days of the week) with added sections - notes, checklists & parent communications (I will use this to track when I have to contact the school). Plum Paper Planners can be purchased unbound/unpunched which means you punch them for just a regular binder or you could even put them on discs.
This is a great review! I used the big teacher happy planner this past school year and loved it. For next school year I am going to use the plum paper one, just for the sake of trying something new. I love that plum paper let's you customize everything, including the weekly page layouts, labels, and extra pages in the back. But seriously, I learned my lesson last August when I purchased my first teacher happy planner, GET YOUR PLANNER NOW TEACHERS! Come August, many of the options will be harder to find in the retail stores. 🙂👍
I am a teacher and I used Erin Condren last year, but this year I am using the large happy planner. I just found that I needed to add in too many pages, and I had to keep an extra binder for it. I was carrying too much back and forth to school because of it. This year I will use the happy planner hole puncher to add in my extra pages and keep it all together. As a bonus my Erin Condren portfolio fits around my happy planner so I can reuse it! The happy planner is also a lot less expensive.
I have only used the Happy Planner Big and I can't imagine using either of the other ones because I need way more space for writing! I love the big boxes. I also like that I can print out things like student health, student contacts, seating charts, etc. and punch them and they fit right into my BIG. HP forever
I love the plum paper planner. I switched over this year from my HP TP because I prefer my dates up top. I was also able to customize it so that my labels were already in there. I love that they have so many add ons as well. Definitely no regrets here. Although I do wish it was prettier on the monthly dashboards.
Thank you for this video! I was wondering if you could update it. I find myself going back to view this video every year when I am trying to figure out which planner to choose. This year I took your recommendation and I am trying the plum paper. Wish me luck and thank you for your hard work! I love love you and your beautiful family. Blessings 🙏🏽❤️
Thanks for this review! I love the Happy Planner and the flexibility it offers. I love some of the pages in the other planners of things I didn’t think of including before, but I can create my own versions of those, print and punch them for the Big Happy Planner. Spiral binding would drive me crazy.
Am I the only weird one whose brain can’t register with the week going across like that? I know we read right to left so it should be natural but I think my brain registers planning like a checklist and needs to go up and down. The Plum Paper had the best weekly layout imo because of this. I know you said some people alter the HP planner, but I don’t have time to do that every week lol
I currently have a happy planner, and just ordered the erin condren teacher planner! I can't wait! I'm a teacher with one child with ADHD so this is going to help me a lot!!
Loved this video!! It really helped me out! I’m looking for a new planner this year since going to school online I had to rethink how I plan for the week. I was trying to find more info about each of these planners so this video really helped! I also never even thought about switching the mon-fri from the side to the top! Genius!
I really like that they have the two weeks in the months repeated towards the end. I keep having to flip back to look at it, in my HP , SO this is pretty neat.
This year I am going to use the Big Happy Planner. I have used the Flu Planner in the past, and loved the customization of it, but let's be real...the ability to pull out pages and add new pages is what sold me on the HP. I use an ECLP for my regular planner, but was not impress with the there teacher planner, for the same reason I didn't return to the Plum Planner. My HP did not come with the year at a glance pre-planning pages like you have, and I wish t had but oh well...I can just make my own and add them! Great video, thanks for sharing.
I really enjoyed this video. I’ve had a Erin Condren teacher planner for the past four years but I’ve always been curious about the plum planner. After the review I can now safely say that EC is perfect for me. ☺️
Please tell me the color of your nails! Those nails were poppin’ gurl! Loved the video. I liked the parent communication log in both the Condren and Plum planners. I liked the day by day columns in the HP. Thanks for doing a comparison of these planners.
I already have my Big Happy Planner Teacher Planner for next school year. I love the fact that I can take out an entire semester and put it back in when I need it. I also like that the weekly pages don’t have the weekends on them. The Plum Paper Planner had some pages that I liked, but I don’t like the weekly layout, which is the most important thing. Since my Planner is on my desk most of the day, I would not put in student contact info, health info, and maybe not even parent contact info due to privacy issues. I can look up student contact and health info online and I can also track parent contact online as well.
ooh thanks for this review! I'd never heard of Plum Paper and I love that the days are vertical across the top rather than down the side..my brain just really wants that orientation and the Erin Condren and Happy Planner are the opposite!
Plum planner; weeks times 2, you could use The great out parts for reviewing back and looking ahead, by adding a few stickers to re-label the top of the days... or something, use your imagination to what I mean. I ordered the erin condren one, self-employed & marketing.
I have a Orange Circle Studio Calendar for Today planner my mom got me for Christmas from TJ Maxx. But I work in a public school system as an educational assistant and they had life touch school planners in the office where my mailbox is. So I grabbed one since they were free. I only wrote down my pay days and the days when kids have no school. I’m not sure what else I’ll use the planner for just yet. That’s why I watched you’re video to get some ideas.
I am a middle school ELA/SS teacher and have used the Erin Condren for personal for 4 years but planner is too big and too geared towards elementary. I am definitely ordering a Plum Paper Planner for this year for teaching only, in the 7x9 size. Thanks for reviewing
Prek spec ed teacher here. I already purchased the Happy Planner, however, I was questioning if I wanted to keep it. I like that it is customizable, since I am part of a few committees and have different meetings throughout the month, I liked the thought of being able to keep all notes in one place, divided by tabs if I chose to. But, I haven’t quite figured out if I want to do planning for the week in it considering I sometimes keep activities out for several weeks. Great video, I enjoyed your review.
I used ECLPs until I found the Plum Paper Planners and had decided that was the planner for me - until I tried the Happy Planner! Love it! Customization is amazing and there are so many accessories. Combine that with the ease of being able to order online or find at a local store and I'm sold! I used ECLPs for years, but then I started having problems - every order I received had a problem, like your stickers being printed upside down. This was widely discussed on social media. They always made it right, but I just wanted to get an order that didn't need correcting!
Why is the Plum Paper planner cover upside down? That would drive me bonkers. I totally agree on the year pages at the front of the happy planner, they need these in all their planners.
They sent me a few to review, and I'm thinking this one was a reject that just got sent out for reviews instead of to a customer. It's not suppose to be like that lol
I’m going back to being an assistant preschool teacher in the fall, and I’ll be using the Choose Joy color block layout for it! Thank you for this video!
I prefer the customization of the Happy Planner but I also wish the dates were across the top so I wouldn't have to make that change myself. Thanks for the showcase.
Plum Paper has so much customization available. You can change the layout, get different sizes, and add more of certain pages or none of others. The week being repeated across two months does drive me a little crazy though.
I know what you mean about passwords, but I have some many different programmes to log into I need to track them, I just use a code so the password isn't written down in full! Great reviews, I'm still undecided though!! 😊 Xx
Awww man the happy planner I got didn’t have that month at a glance jazz ☹️ I switched to the big one this year and I used the heck out of those checklists for IEP planning and monitoring.
Could someone please comment if the paper of the Plum Paper Planner is maybe too smooth for use with a pencil?! I read (or even heard in this video?!) that it's coated and very smooth/slick. Since I usually use pencil in my planner, I need to know if PP will work as well with pencil as EC paper? Or would Sharpie, etc. be better for PP? Thank you!
Hi! I have some plum paper planners but I've never actually tried a pencil on them. It IS very smooth/slick though. I"m out of town now but I can try it when I'm back next week if you email me a reminder. hello@kellofaplan.com
Has anyone successfully tried punching a page and inserting it into a plum paper or ec coil? If so, what punch did you use? I bought a punch I thought would work, but it's really difficult to add it in.
Omg. I know a first year teacher who has all this cutsie stuff. She has all the stickers and pens and she loves to get all her cute stuff together. I can’t. I’m trying, but I don’t have patience for cutsie things like this. I feel so grouchy right now and all I’m thinking is, I just need my info and plans and I don’t give a rat’s ass if it has pretty colors. Lol. I need a drink and it’s only Tuesday !!!!! 😭
I have a big happy planner for lesson planning and information and then a classic size that I’m going to set up for curriculum mapping and teacher resources for the month. I think I might set up the weekly pages in the classic like you are going to set yours up for social media. I haven’t decided on the categories yet. I tried to do both in one planner last year and it just got too chunky.....I’m not at planner piece yet. I’m hoping to get more ideas by watching awesome videos like this. I do like the set up of the plum paper planner. I wish that happy planner would offer a version of the days at the top and the subjects on the side
Anita Dally, I found refills for the checklists last year. I’m pretty sure I got them from Michael’s. I have plenty left over for this year. Have you tried amazon?
I have had two Plum Paper planners. They worked well, but that spiral was a bummer. I’m now a Happy Planner. Don’t like the price point of Erin Condren.
Hi, yes they are compatible. You just need to make a cut on each hole of your plum paper cover to remove it, once you do that it snaps out. I love the inside of the plum paper, but the covers drive me crazy, so I buy covers and accessories from Erin Condren and use them with my Plum, I get the best of both worlds.
I want my craft room to be organized... please write a ‘how to’ or chart a schematic of your craft room as I need guidance on organization. (Sorry this is rando comment... I am enjoying your teacher video though... just sad I have this tornado room that could benefit from your talent to organize)

While I use the happy planner for everything, out of those 3 I think the plum paper is my favorite.
I love that the Erin Condren has the stickers for the holidays as I’m Canadian planner and many American holidays don’t apply to me.
Amen my fellow Canadian!!!

I went to the website after watching this review and they will let you customize which direction the spread 'reads' just FYI.
Literally why I buy only from Plum! I wish Erin would change to have that option.
