In the army your actually sometimes not allowed to warm up the mre because the enemy troops can see the steam and locate your base so eating it cold is the true experience
I mean, I sure hope you’re smart enough to not sit there in front of the enemy, in the middle of the night… with a hot steaming bag of food. At that point it’s kinda your fault haha

My husband who was enlisted at Ft Bragg used to bring home MRE"s every month.(they were within 90 days of expiration) Absolutely Loved them!! Being on a military budget, I welcomed them!❤

My grandfather was in the Army in WW2, not sure his occupation but I know he helped with the code talkers, my father was Air Force in Vietnam as a jet mechanic, I'm Army infantry, been to Afghanistan and I'm trying to convince my son to go Airforce and pick an occupation that can transfer over in the civilian life and hopefully there's no wars going on then. MREs are actually designed so they can be eaten cold without too much of an impact on the taste. They're still perfectly edible, fully precooked. This is because in some situations, heating it up brings risks like the steam being seen by enemies and giving away your location, or a mistake leading to someone getting burned or dealing with an unwanted fire.
That might be good, but some others arent. The base doesnt let you choose what MRE you want, they choose it for you. Of course, the soldiers trade their food sometimes, but i dont think its allowed.

You forgot the number one thing warming up your cheese while your meal cooks shit hits different but usually you dont have 10 to 15 minutes to warm up your food so you gotta eat that shit cold
I've heard terrible things about the MRE's from the states. Apparently they don't care much about providing their soldiers with food that tastes good, just the caloric count. While MRE's from Canada, they're taste tested, reviewed, and only the best of the best are served to our soldiers cause Canada's military knows that a happy soldier is much better than a miserable one
