      Hey, Crowne. This question may not be about software or hardware used for animating with, but if you wouldn't mind answering all the same, what advice could you give someone like me regarding how to get noticed more? I'd like to think I've done well enough to accumulate the number of subs I have so far, and I'm eternally grateful to all the folk who kindly subscribe to me, but I'd appreciate it a lot if you'd be willing to spare a minute at least to give me some advice on how I can appeal and/or reach out to more people, if you have any advice to spare that is.

      +UniqueSKD So you're requesting "How to get popular and well known in few steps", right? I need that for my girlfriend too o.o

    • @Keyfur91
      @Keyfur91 9 лет назад +3

      Michal Kundrát Well, basically that is what I'm asking, yes. I mean, I'm glad to have the number of subs I have now, as I said, but there's nothing wrong with aiming for more, right?

    • @DreitTheDarkDragon
      @DreitTheDarkDragon 9 лет назад +3

      +UniqueSKD Of course, when there's simple way to become more known, then you should try it :)
      As I see ponies on your channel, have you tried reddit? - reddit.com/r/MyLittlePony - I just posted girlfriend's picture to /r/AdorableDragons and she got about 200 new views on DeviantART during that day. I think that /r/MyLittlePony (or similar subreddit, more related to your videos?) could bring you some new subscribers too ;)

    • @Keyfur91
      @Keyfur91 9 лет назад +3

      Michal Kundrát Gonna be honest, I prefer MLP animations because the pony forms have simpler base shapes so it's easier to draw them on paper. But I suppose I could consider trying different things as well...
      Also, reddit, huh? Hmm...I could try that. Thanks for your help, friend.
      Why do I bother asking the more popular bronies for advice when the everyday people are just so much more helpful and less time-wasting to ask? I bow to you in appreciation, good sir.

    Scribble kibble is so awesome. I'm only a young animator, not even in my teenage years, but this is really great because I want to learn animation/effects/editing, and my dad has all these animation programs. Like you, he pays for all the adobe apps, and this helps break it down for me one by one. It's really helping me improve. I've got premiere down, flash is meh, and after effects is my next quest. I have a binder full of notes from this show by itself! Thanks for being so helpful and not using big words so dumb people like me can understand XDDD

      I think 90% of paint users cant draw something decent

    • @renookami4651
      @renookami4651 6 лет назад +2

      To that I have to answer the typical "At least "Paint dot net" have a layer option, and is still free".
      Tools can vastly help the workflow of animations by having each entity in a separate layer, or automate steps that took ages manually. But you're right about a point, when not working with complex brushes Paint is as much an option than any other programs on the strict drawing part. "Drawing better" actually isn't the real problem most of the time.
      I used the now really outdated method of making still images, then using unFREEze to actually make an animated GIF, for years; but this takes really long and any error in unFREEze means you delete the list of frames and start again from square one. Even if I already had moved to Paint dot net it was objectively not a good way to work and could easely be optimised by switching to another program.
      Time can't be brought back, and it is the most precious thing you have. That may sound cheesy, but it's true.
      Any artist willing to improve also have to improve their workflow. Lots of hours saved that can be used to work on more frames or other animations/illustrations, is way more valuable than to master a single program, any of them really. For pros, more time equals more commissions, then more money to pay bills and food.
      So, while technically yes; people can animate with MSpaint, there's no need to be stubborn either. That's only natural ones who moved on other alternative try to make MSpaint users take a step forward themself. But again I have to agree...It would be way better to do it by encouraging them; mocking them or the program is useless.
      TL;DR:
      People often prefers one-liners rather than to leave meaningful comments nowdays, so that's no surprise they make fun of the fact one still use MSpaint instead of explaining why other alternatives are better. (even if as a fact MSpaint can actually be used among other tools to animate, like demonstrated in the video)

      @ugxsan 9 лет назад +40

      With enough patience, anyone can draw something good. And you can be a good animator, but suck at drawing. You just won't be able to make your own assets.

    • @toksykus770
      @toksykus770 8 лет назад +6

      Yeah, that's what every artist says. But truth is, you have to have a right mindset from the beginning and that's what only talented people have.

    • @ugxsan
      @ugxsan 8 лет назад +6

      ***** There's actually a long debate to be had about whether or not anyone can do certain things. Obviously, barring disabilities, some people don't really have a good spatial sense and could arguably practice all day every day for a decade without getting all that much better. We wouldn't know though, because typically, those people won't stick with it that long with that little improvement. A lot of times, your interests follow your skills. Take me, for instance. I'm great at math and quick counting. This makes me a wonderful musician. But then, your skills also follow your interests because you won't bother building them up if you don't enjoy it, now will you?
      Like I said, it's a long debate to be had, and this isn't where or with whom I think that debate should be. Suffice it to say, there's still a lot we don't know about how the body and mind learn things.

      On android tablet devices, especially the note series with it's awesome s-pen, you can very well do a full polished animation in flipaclip, though if you know how to animate and know how to navigate the program well. And if you're absolutely stuck on android only you can even add sound / music to the video by use of one of the many free video editing apps available. :) it's also great for simply sketching things out to be moved to another program on a computer or practicing timing of inbetweens etc.

He has also made me an excellent computer, but it is his semi-old one (he had it for a few months then he made a new one and gave me the one I have now), so I guess I just need a drawing tablet that fits the model of the pen I have (I had an old one but the pen didn't work on it so I needed a new one).

    If you don't have much money and you wanna make animations, I recommend this.
    Audacity- For sound. Actually, even if you have money to spend, I recommend it. You can do a lot with this.
    Pencil 2D- For animation. It's bitmap based, but it's great at getting the job done. It's actually kinda like Flipnote Studio with layers and color. :P
    GIMP- For background. I've used GIMP before, it's a great drawing software. Just export the backgrounds as Bitmaps and import them to Pencil.
    If you want 3D for free, Blender is your best bet.

    For free video editors, Linux users can get Kdenlive. I don't know how it compares to WMM or iMovie, but it is a free video editor for Linux. I can say with certainty it's not as good as something like Sony Vegas, but if you're just starting out it gets the job done.
    Also take a look at Synfig. I've never used it, but it looks like it might be an alternative to Flash. It is also free and available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

    *My tablet recommendation:* I use a Monoprice 5x8" tablet. It works great if you don't feel like you HAVE to have the super expensive bamboo whatever. You really don't _need_ all that honestly. You can by them from Monoprice.com and they run in the $50's.
    Just an FYI though, for some weird reason, in order to have pressure sensitivity in Adobe products, you have to use it WITHOUT the driver software installed. I have no idea why, but if you install the drivers from their website, it will conflict with Adobe's internal programming or something. Also, even then it still won't give you pressure sensitivity in Flash or Illustrator if you're on a Windows computer (Macs work just fine). I've been doing without it just fine, but others might not. If I remember right, it did work at one point, but after one of their updates it stopped working.
    HOWEVER, if you use GIMP for drawing and ToonBoom for animation, DO download the driver software. You HAVE to. And it WILL work just fine. There is a little bug in GIMP (which they might have fixed by now) where it will lag severely, but there is a script someone has available that will fix it.
    Once you iron out all those out-of-the-box issues, it's totally worth it. It's functional and durable. I've had mine for over two years now and I'm not even pursuing anything better.

    I'm very young. Not even in my teenage years, I'm 10 and I'm a artist and I animate using fire alpaca and I'm not going to let people who think the older is better. It doesn't matter how many years you have, it matters how many years you put to use. Yes I have a drawing tablet, Wacom intuos draw. And even my older friends are getting into animation, we want to make a small animation series off of a story we all created for Roleplay on a online game. Because it's the summer and we all have a lot of time on our hands this summer we might begin the animation. We have the plot sorted out, basically season one is prepared. Thank you for all of your wonderful animation tips even though some of them I might have to adjust to fit the program we are using since Fire Alpaca is meant for art and not animation. We attempted using OpenToonz and after two hours we still didn't get the hang of it. We decided to use Fire Alpaca since we all have it already and it's pretty hard to animate with but in the drawing aspect we have on lock. But we might try out Krita soon, with all the comments mentioning it it seems pretty good.

    Audacity- For sound. Actually, even if you have money to spend, I recommend it. You can do a lot with this.
    Pencil 2D- For animation. I like Pencil 2D because it's like Flipnote Studio with layers and color. :P
    GIMP- For background. I've used GIMP before, it's a great drawing software. Just export the backgrounds as Bitmaps and import them to Pencil.
    If you want 3D for free, Blender is your best bet.

    New people like me coming to this video: You can get a free version of animation desk and just draw and paint there if you want a simple as can be sequence software. It's something that can help you figure out your frames by going back and forth, and it has 24 frames. They have even added in that you can change your frames per second now that I never noticed they had before. Another thing is if you want something with good lines but don't want to do a sequence software, just use paid 2D. There you can do picture by picture and save each. Then you can look at each image to make sure everything is correct. I have done a lot of practice with these to see which ones I like best.

    As far as 3D animation goes, Blender is the best free animation software out there from what I've heard, though I've only used it once or twice. The best animation softwares are 3D max and Maya (I use Maya personally) but both are basically the same thing. If you want to actually get into the industry, Maya is probably what you want, as it is used by nearly everyone and every company. It costs thousands though so there's that.
    As far as tips go, have a mouse with either an extra button to program or a very easy to use middle mouse button, because you will use that more than anything (used for panning the camera). As far as drawing tablets go, I don't personally notice a difference in using them. My mouse is just as efficient as a Wacom Cntique from what I've done with it) Maya also supports many third party extensions and software such as Picard animation software which I think just came out recently. You will also want some Adobe software like premiere pro and after effects.

    There's also an animation program that Steam users get for free (SFM) that deals with 3d models and most people use models from the Workshop.
    I've also found a very basic animation program called Pencil. It's pretty much like a digital flipbook in a way. :3

    I still use that model of tablet, the bamboo USB tablet I mean. Got it in 6th grade, haven't stopped using it since. It's almost 8-9 years old now.

    I have I Wacom intos pro ( pad tablet ) and it works really well. Most Wacom tablets are easy to install/download/attach to your computer and last FOREVER. They have different changeable nibs for the pen and if you have any problems with the tablet it usually has a 90% chance of being in the little help booklet or the internet with easy steps on how to fix it. I REALLY recommend it for experienced or beginners like me ( I'm only 10 I might edit this out ). So definitely look into buying this.

Is there a way that I can copy the symbols of a rig and paste them into the timeline without messing up the animation?

    I recommend frame cast for iPads, (easier to draw on) for small devices, it's free and you can get your art noticed too and get some likes. It's basically a face book in an animation app
