An excellent and very moving film. Such a tragic loss of so many innocent young men. Your film, along with others, will ensure 'they are not forgotten'. My father survived the WW1 after being conscripted and sent to France in 1916. He never wanted to talk about it and died when I was only ten.
One more time, i watch this wonderful video! and i want to say my respect for these young boys who died here in my country, so far from their home... Thank you!
Great video. I've met a couple of WWI vets as a therapist. The last one I met was Frank, a vet in his 90's. On his way back from the Great War, these sailors stopped off in Antwerp and ran in the Olympics there, back when it was all amateur. RIP Frank & Harry.
The bravery of these men of all nationalities still amazes me even now. They were sold a lie only to find out that the truth was that they were to face almost certain death, & yet they still went over the top. How ever did they find the courage to go, I doubt I could do it. They should always be remembered & honoured.
There are no words which can express the horror the men who fought in the great war suffered to earn us our freedom. But there are words which can express our thanks. Thank you for uploading this video as a tribute. And thank you to all our soldiers who have fought, and still fight to protect our freedom.
This is very moving. I watched the film My Boy Jack on TV a few months ago and marrying the music to it and the archive film makes a very powerful mix indeed. Well done to you. I especially loved the ending. I'll finish with Harry's own words "War is the calculated and condoned slaughter of human beings." - Harry Patch, Passchendaele 2009
The men of world War 1 sacrafice will never be forgotten " Miss me but let me go When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom-filled room Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little-but not too long And not with your head bowed low Remember the love that we once shared Miss me-but let me go...." - Miss me but let me go. By an unknown WW1 British soliders
Beautiful, Harry and the lads would be proud to watch and listen to your tribute, no one can imagine the horrors and the brutality what these young men and boys witnessed under the rule of leaders that should have known better, but still we never learn. Rest in peace Harry a true gentleman and a humble hero.
What it must have been like to have gone through all that back in WWI and then to have lived to an impossible age no one can imagine living too. The experiences good and bad and the things you could tell others if you have the mind too. Amazing.
Superb tribute, manage to capture the miseries of trench warfare but at the same time the bravery of the men that went trough it following their ideals with all their hearts and souls. May that generation, the first to live trough that hell called total war, rest in peace.
He was in a care home near me, I used to see him when I went to visit my mother about 3 yrs ago, I knew who he was but didn't want to invade his space, he kept some old dear company, they were like lovebirds!
usually i do not comment like this but my respect is with all the soldiers who are fighting or have faught in wars. I have honour to say rest in peace hero's.......
Were all thankful for the men who served in this war. My great grandfather was in the Keystone division from Pennsylvania and lost his leg as he went over the top.
Thank you.. really beautiful. When Harry Patch died the "Passing of an age " was mentioned a lot and I explored it in my animation Waiting for you and England to return but more in relation to WW2
Our Harry Patch was a true ''Local Hero''- and Harry was so dignified, and it was so sad when the last of the WW1 Veterans slipped from this life-they were the last link of that hellish time. War scars those who fought. My father in law who had to fight at the tender age of 18 -21[WW2] suffered battle stress, and it caused depression for decades. You can't ''unsee'' things which you experienced. Respect to all who served in all conflicts.
I know that you firmly belived that Death was not the end....Now you know that you were right !!!!! God Bless You Harry. You became the voice of a lost generation...and you did them all proud. May you rest in peace Harry. You did your bit for King and Country....and we are so grateful that you did.
Harry Patch is a man worth remembering, and honouring. He is a hero to me in the way that he made it very, very clear that his contempt was for the warmongers, and his memories for his mates and the men he was told to kill. Goodbye Harry. Farewell. This Radiohead tribute to Harry Patch made me cry, when I heard it.
it now becomes history to all that generation thank you, to all those war memorials in those little villages, towns and cities across the uk and world to all the mothers daughters brothers fathers who mourned this great loss the pain has now gone. thank you all including my grand dad who lies in somewhere out on the somme we will never forget your great loss bye granddad bye harry. The last it now time to join your comrades through the gates of paradise.
The scenes from My Boy Jack were set during The Battle of Loos in 1915. On one of the Loos memorials there is the name Herbert Butler. He joined up aged 15, he had lied about his age. He went over the top, just like portrayed in this movie and they did not find his body. He was my cousin and served with the Gloucester Regiment. If you go to the Loos Memorial, perhaps a grave marked Unknown or a member of the G.R. might be him( there are lots) Please remember him there and lay a poppy cross.
My boy jack is the film if anyone doesnt know...its a really underated film..its on youtube in ten parts i highly recommend it This video was beautiful...a really well done mark of respect for those men.im a (peaceful) republican irishman but I still say that all of them,on both sides, were heroes hopefully we will find within ourselves the strength to be gentle
Listen. When a war is waged. Nobody wants to fight it. You only fight it because, if you dont. You will have nothing to live for anymore. That is what I learned from my dad.
For those wanting to know , the clips in the trenches are from"my boy Jack" .Starring Daniel Radcliffe {Harry Potter] Did you recognise the young officer with the whistle ? Its about Rudyard Kiplings son who was killed aged about twenty . Some more clips on youtube for those interested. My own great uncle David Etchells was killed in France 1917 aged 24 R.I.P.
The saddest thing about world war one is not the staggering loss of life, but how it could have so easily been avoided. Let's face it, it was fought for pretty much no reason, neither side wanted to back down. World War Two had more of a purpose, that's why I find WWI sad, millions of people died for no good reason.
Oh, if only you had been there to advise the conflict analysts, historians, spies, Diplomatic Corps, military experts, financiers and military elite who had made it their life's work and vocation.
It was a different era. They believed they were ''doing their duty''..and I for one am massively respectful of them. Far from being sheep, they were brave, selfless, and did not expect the War to go on for as long as it did. They thought it would be over in a few weeks. I would not term that being a ''sheep''.
* Henry Allingham (1896-2009) - Last airman. * Harry Patch (1898-2009) - Last soldier to fight in the trenches. * Claude Choules (1901-2011) - Last combat veteran. Served in the Royal Navy. * Florence Green (1901-2012) - Served as waitress in Women's Royal Air Force. And not forgetting the number of military and civilian casualties in World War I which was over 35 million. May they all R.I P
Back then they fought and died. So many never knew what it was like to get married, love a woman, and embrace their own children. What a crappy existence IMHO.
this video shows us how bad war is. But still we decide to wage war, small war or big war. its still war , truly sad to see this, and with this amazing music, Patch knew the truth about war :) VOTE UP IF AGAINST WAR
Not that I am a fan of blood and gore and extreme violence, but they should make it EVEN MORE gorier than World at War, to show the hellish nature of this devastating war.
There is already a WW1 mod in development for it called Grabenkrieg, Look it up they plan on adding gas attacks, realistic gameplay, historically accurate uniforms and weapons ect.
The Lyric's "I've seen Devils coming up from the Ground" refers to the massive underground mines placed beneath enemy lines like what were used at Messines, just incase anybody did'nt know what these lyrics meant
Those lines seem to apply more readily, as the maker of this video demonstrated, to the idea of soldiers clambering over the top into No-Man's-Land. It's something Harry, as a member of a Lewis Gun team, would undoubtedly have witnessed from both perspectives, going over himself, and watching Germans go over in counter-attacks.
Love the ending and very moving, of course forgive me for saying this I'd imagine they'd meet some place else other then a trench, most likely a pub would seem to be the place.
I have seen nearly 15 year in the armed forces and im not a patch on these boys and never will be ! god bless you all what ever nationality you were (Are) .
well sometimes top-rated comments reach a limit or become outdated or something. but they also occasionally stay up regardless. at least that has been experience most of the time. im just saying an uploader reply would ensure that it stays where everyone can see it
@berserker276 Usually two small lines at the bottom of a page or a 20 second mention on the News.My respect goes to all those serving in the armed forces and my condolences to those who have lost loved ones.
Amen! But not a lot of people would wanna buy a WW1 game, even though i fully support it... the closest one is Darkest of Days, an sci-fi game where you briefly fight on the eastern front in WW1...

This is stunning. The music and images are more haunting than any ghost video. Well done again!
May he rest in peace for eternity.
I hope that now he is in eternal peace together with the enemies he killed.
ALL TOGETHER in peace.
One more time, i watch this wonderful video! and i want to say my respect for these young boys who died here in my country, so far from their home...

Wow. Gives me chills. Well done - one of the most fitting tributes to the lads in the trenches I've ever seen.

This was a very moving video. It touched me in a way that only a few others have done before. Thank you.
One of the best RUclips videos.... Sharing tonight when it's most important.

this video is amazingly beautiful thank you for making in R.I.P. for all those who fought for our freedom
What it must have been like to have gone through all that back in WWI and then to have lived to an impossible age no one can imagine living too. The experiences good and bad and the things you could tell others if you have the mind too. Amazing.

or better still give each of them, on both sides of the conflict, a pistol each and let them fight it out personally.
tisnowornever Bla Bla.
+TaZ101SAGA If there were no WWI, there wouldn't be a WWII as well. The Nazis started WWII because Germany lost so much in WWI.

That among other reasons.
May some thing like this war happen again everything even history would change
harry patch he must suffer many friends RIP

everyone from this footage is now dead. it's weird to think of it like that :(
At 1:30, what movie does that come from?
I really feel sad for the people during first and second ww:(
Especially poignant today, the 4th of August
Which film is that at 1:38 ? Don't recognize it.
Someone please tell me the scene from this what movie is it from?

@GhostWatching: Latehare1 is absolutely true. The end gives me goosebumps.
The Sanity of this world, Is simply a convenient Illusion. May we never again fall into a conflict such as this.
what film where the excerpts used from?
