  • Here's a video tribute to the early days of Kareem Abdul Jabbar as Lew Alcindor, a complete retrospective telling his long and extraordinary journey from 1964 to 1989.
We'll start with "Power Memorial" in New York, where he'll establish an amazing record with 71 straight wins in 1964, a team many describe as the best that ever played during
    the 20th century.
Lew was head and shoulders above everyone else : too big, too strong and too good, he was simply unstoppable near the rim.
In 1966, Alcindor joins the famous University of UCLA where Hall of Famer John Wooden will teach him new tools. Impossible to guard and never seen before, Alcindor will destroy records and force the NCAA to ban dunking because of him..... With the Bruins, he'll end up winning the championship three times.
In 1969, he's obviously drafted number 1 overall in the Draft, pairing with another player quite famous in Oscar Robertson, the Big O.... From Day One, Alcindor is just too good for his age, and he'll only need three years to get to the promise land : as an NBA champion in 1971, he'll officially change his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar right after these Finals.
In 1975 Kareem leaves Milwaukee and settles in Los Angeles where he'll capture 5 championship rings in 14 Laker seasons.
These 10 minutes of exclusive footage are brought together to celebrate Kareem's 67th anniversary.
    ENJOY.

How is the Goat 6 wins and 15 losses against the great Willis Reed? The Bucks won 304 to the Knicks 266 from 1969 to 74 and yet Alcindor/Jabbar was 6 and 15 against Willis Reed!
Clyde Frazier said Willis used to muscle Jabbar who hated it. Before Willis knees went in 1971, he was 12 and 4 against Alcindor/Jabbar!

These films don't show Kareem's greatest strength under John Wooden, which was his playing the back line of the zone press. You could not throw over it with him back there. Kareem, as Lew was the best defensive force ever in college, and was underappreciated for that.

Played against 20+ HOF players and only Moses Malone outscored him by 1 point. Kareem as a rookie on playoff avg 35 points, shot 56%, around 15 boards, assist and get no love. Now players like Kawhi and Durant are heavily promoted in the playoffs and their numbers are not even as good as Kareem as a rookie!

I guess if Kareem took as many shots per game as Jordan people would definitely think he is the greatest ever. This is the math if Kareem took as many shots as Jordan per game, Kareem would have over 47,000 points!!! There would be no dispute then, lol. If he didn't play college and hog the ball like Jordan, he would have close to 60,000 points in 24 seasons.

I aint go lie, Kareem looked like a beast in his younger days, but in todays game, he would have problems with a guy name Kevin Durant

Why the fuck would Kareem be guarding Durant?

Why? I would agree some people would give him problems but why Kevin Durant?

kareem would not be able to guard durant on the perimeter, but durant would have no hope of guarding the skyhook

+elai314 WHY WOULD KAREEM EVER BE GUARDING KD IN THE FIRST PLACE IDIOT?! Kareem was a 7'2 center and KD is a 6'10 SF. Do some research man

+Daniel Clark no need to research, have been watching the nba religiously for over 30 years, this guy mentioned durant, so I went along with the hypothetical situation where okc played small ball with 4 guards and durant at center
