I was excited about this video and you didn't disappoint!!! Very good stuff. I can't stop marvelling at that barn of yours. I sure hope when you look at yourself in the mirror that you are proud of yourself. You have opened a lot of eyes and shown that this is what Govt. is supposed to do and what our money should be spent on. Keep preaching it A!!!
I bought 10 acres this summer and planned on farming on most of it. I knew there are programs that helped but your last several videos have helped tremendously! Keep it up and cant wait to see what we can do with our property’s in a year. To successful year!🥂
Alexandra, bless you. Honestly. Before I broach my comment proper, I love the acoustics of your barn. From the beginning of this upload I thought, 'This is the perfect resonance for this message.' My brother recently moved on an opportunity to buy extra acreage in his area. He did it without knowing what he was going to do with the land simply because he has a similar mindset to your own. I am sending the link to your channel to him. I know he'll greatly appreciate it. I also think of my daughter. Knowing the world is dramatically shifting to new economies, hyper urbanization, and a leasing/renting paradigm, THIS is a time of opportunity. Thank you for sharing your experiences and your heart.
You are so wonderful. I just love you! I can't tell you how timely this news is for me, a single female with 3.75 pristine acres just down the road from a local college. This information is exactly what I've been looking for throughout the past year. Having worked for non-profits, I get what you are talking about. Thank you for all your hard work keeping us inspired and motivated. I'm hooked!
I'm actually about to start training as a bee keeper and also an herbalist. My daughter and I are going to do it together and start a little farm. Thank you for explaining everything it helps me a lot.
I am stoked that I found your channel. You are absolutely slaying it. Thanks for sharing all this. I'm neither in the U.S. or currently looking for land, I'm just glad that you're helping to show people down there how and I absolutely agree with what you're doing and look forward to seeing what you make of it. I garden a bit, just as proof of concept, it seems (I can garden, right?!). It does interest me though, I like the idea of doing more with it.
You're fortunate you had a great USDA team with great experience in Upstate N.Y....Texas is not as good. Here in Texas the USDA sent out two young boys age 21 and 22 to my farm in 2020, both were new hires and toured my farm only. They told me many incorrect things ( i disagreed adamently on 50% of what they said and 50% were known things-correct)...it was early spring, late January, very early Feb no green grass (yet) telling me my 34 acre farm could barely sustain 1 cow-calf pair cause the farm had no grass. They were completely clueless youngsters that did not know that by March 5 or10th the new green grass growth would be more than 11 cows could handle and would surpass their eating ability.. I can support 10 cows, one bull with 5 to10 calves perfectly fine for the last 4 years and with very little hay during winter time...graze 10 months a year too. I was not impressed with these USDA youngsters trying to telling me what they thought they knew, 34 acreas for 1 cow-calf pair Really? Also they were to get me 3 things we discussed and send me via e-mail...so yeah, i was cool, thought i'd get just a little help from them....but they never responded back with those 3 information promises. So yeah, not impressed with USDA. Two young kids come out to only negatively down my farm basically telling me i can't support cattle on it.
@@AlexandraFasuloBiz Great advice...I might but I KNOW they view me as small peanuts and i felt so bad and discouraged after their visit. I had the primary USDA field office gentleman, older guy, to come visit (he was supposed to come out), but he changed last minute and they decided to send out the two younger boys. There's been kind of a hostile take-over....my land is situated near Dallas County and progress big-money needs my land and easements are needed....I'm being discouraged....i fear my cattle will be poison, food by water, or shot at. Such a good experience! That's great they care about your vision for the land and are helping you accomplish it, also while giving valuable suggestions for other things!
Interesting stuff Alexandra Fasulo!! The barn looks amazing, the Amish did a great job building it, the wood looks beautiful like the old custom cedar chest I have & the windows & lighting looks perfect. You have a lot of good information that's probably brand new to all of us. The bee, butterfly & pollinator's Oasis plan is a pretty unique idea. I wish you the best of luck, I would love to actually do something like this myself & escape the chaotic suburbia. I actually have to go back & watch some of your earlier videos from the start. I came in here not too long ago with the "How I found my 6.74 acres of farmland" video.
🙌 Love your vision and viewpoint!!! I really appreciate such great videos about your journey! It's great, and you're doing an amazing job is how you pass this info to us! 💖😁💖
Thank you for Sharing !! :) I am going through a similar epiphany in my life, I have zero experience in farming "yet" but I just purchased a small Ranch outside of Dallas TX. I have been living in the middle of downtown Dallas for 11 years now because I am an Engineer and my office is walking distance. So I cant wait to get out of this concrete jungle and start living life like nature intended !! This USDA Grant information you shared will be valuable to me for sure.
I'm 54 and found you month ago when you 1st showed that you purchased your land and you are truly inspiring and motivating. Don't stop fighting for all the things you speak of, bees, gardening, farming, and all the things. People need to stop being critical and ugly over everything and anything. Take more time to learn and listen and, check facts (unfortunately we live in an age today we all seriously need to do that), America needs to go back to being America. We were once UNiTED and stood together no matter the party we followed, and now its chaos and the younger under 18 generation is witnessing all this and learning from it. US as Americans or any person who lives in this country and considers themselves citizens need to stop the ugliness. Anyway sorry for the small rant, but you truly re-inspired me. I'm someone who had the dream you are living. You are surely working hard for it, but I come from the old school ways of being taught you can have anything in life if you work hard for it. You are living proof of that. I hope others see that and not look at what you have and in jealousy or with ugliness in their heart, don't click like on this video and instead take the time to do the opposite and also leave any ugly comments. You Rock Alexandra!
This is my second year having a small garden in my backyard. I stumbled upon your videos - I don’t even know how. I absolutely love what your are doing as well as your why. I am fully on board this healthy food train and am working to get some acreage soon. Thanks for your channel and the info and the motivation you are providing.
You reminded me of my love and concern for bees and butterflies, thank you for helping our planet. I cried after watching “the vanishing of bees”. Einstein said, “When the last bees dies, Man has 4 years to live”. One of my favorite books is the “secret life of bees”. One of my favorite memories is the release of the butterflies instead of fire works that my ex husband and I created. We gave out origami folded containers with a butterfly in each one then at the same time they were released by a river side park. It was amazing. Would love to know more about these programs and the money that trails them. I wish you the best. Thank you for making a difference.
Love your message! I'm looking for land now and want to do exactly what you're doing - restoring the land and pollinators! Thanks so much for sharing your experience. ♥️
One thing you must keep in mind for your business plan is that agriculture is a sector rife with regulation (for good reason). There are rules for land taxation and farmer income support (e.g. commodity "loan rates"), animal health (structures, drugs, animal slaughter) and human health (food safety). You may be tempted to start a particular kind of farm business, but there's a lot that can come back and bite you, if you're not aware of the regulatory framework. For example, suppose you have live birds in the same structure where you intend to use an event space, separated by a door connecting the two areas. Without even knowing the regulations, I can pretty much expect that will give you problems with health inspection, because walking from one space to another, brings pathogens (animal excrement) into a space where food might be served or sold. You can get a lot of help about these types of problems, including business management, animal health and soil analysis from the Cooperative Extension Service of any large university that has a faculty of Agriculture (e.g. Cornell, Iowa State, Rutgers), usually free and many times with a graduate student working as part of their training.
Hi from the Adirondacks! I've purchased several parcels of raw land, but my intention with each was to build cabins or vacation rentals on them, of course with sensitive development and retaining as many trees as possible. And my land has huge stone walls running through the woods, indicative of farming a century ago on my land. It's incredible thinking of the amount of manual labor it took just to create my stone walls. Nowadays, however, the Adirondack Park Agency wouldn't let me just clear large portions (at least not for residential purposes).
lol, funny thing is, I am a computer programmer that currently builds web sites. I am working on a website for the state of California. It's to help with finding different plants for different purposes ( fire resistant, drought resistant, attracts pollinators ). Not sure if New York has any of the sites. But I have been learning alot.
Wow so motivating! I do want to get into agriculture as a lifestyle and career. Our country desperately needs new farmers for national security. Americans desperately need local farmers to produce quality foods instead of importing from outside countries
