"Bloom" with colored pencils doesn't actually change the color per se. It's caused by the wax binder rising to the surface and creating a cloudy sheen over the colors, just exactly like a box of chocolates can get a "dusty" look on the surface of the chocolates (it's from the slight bit of wax used in enrobing chocolate). This is caused by variations in temperature that cause the wax binder to rise and collect on the surface. This happens more often with Berol because of their wax binder, which is why the pencils are so smooth and creamy. Not all colored pencils are necessarily going to have this same issue. Good news - you can just wipe it off (and you can also eat the chocolates--it doesn't mean they're spoiled). But to prevent it from happening again - or from happening in the first place - you can spray your colored pencil work with workable fixative (please don't spray your chocolates with fixative).
I loved hearing about the cliff analogy to remind yourself to take a break-- I always think of my 'creative self' as a little video game character and when I plan my process for work I keep in mind to manage my time wisely so that I don't reduce my HP to 0 and burn out! When I take a break but really want to work on something, I think of it like I'm charging up for a special smash move!! 🌟
Yes so cute!!!!!!!!!! I love the idea about balancing how much energy you use for a creatuve journey!!! I defos reccomend the Creative Pep Talk podcast to you because it's full of analogies! I recommend this recent ep to begin with if you haven't heard one before open.spotify.com/episode/1pqK3WrCYfMyQMAEgJnCkY?si=6ukxdC06QSmWg0sJFpqslg&
One of the best creators on any platform! You've created such a welcoming community over the years with loads of help, honesty, and transparency. I hope the new years finds you and yours with welcoming arms, new projects that spark joy, and health & safe adventures. Xoxo (give Tonks a squeeze for me
It's so sweet that you recommend and enjoy Leigh's work. I remember when her channel was just starting and she would talk about how much she loved your videos.
I started my “solutions” at the beginning of December 2021 and I feel so good having a jump on things! Thank you for your tips I’m so excited for 2022 for my small wins 🥳
"Keep Going" is 100% one of my favourite books, second in line being "Show Your Work". Didn't need the advice from "Steal Like An Artist" because I already mastered that as a kid and thus passed on the first book book, but boy I learned so much from the other 2.
Yesssss! Love that! I still love revisiting steal like an artist sometimes when I feel nervous to try new things even though i've been working dor a decade hehehe
@@furrylittlepeach I'd greatly recommend "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert if you haven't read or listened to it. It's soooooo BRILLIANT! I think you'll like it. I personally love it and have listened to it on audible for almost 10 times.
SO CUTE!!! it's so interesting to hear about you talk about the liking both the artist and their art but i highly relate!!! i think some artists tend to upload for the sake of uploading rather than making fun with the videos that they upload :-')
I haven't even gotten to the book recommendations but the guide lock tip is so huge! I was literally fighting with my screen because it kept moving and ughh. This is going to save me so much time, thank you!!!
you have the voice of an angel !! ☺︎ wow that shout out has me a lil bit in tears :') AND I LOVE STUDIO MEGGY, BEST!!!!!!! can't wait to film our video together.
Try using a stay-wet palette (or a homemade one: put a sponge or wet paper towels in a plastic sealable container and top it with parchment/baking paper) with your acryla gouache, it'll keep them wet longer.
you are so cute! your videos are very informative and well made with all the beautiful background settings and examples you showed! Happy I found your channel! :D
As someone who is documenting my process of my self taught art journey, this video is exactly what I needed. Thank you Sha’an, I appreciate the content you put out that constantly inspires me to continue even when it gets really hard ❤️🥺
I love 1.25 speed. This video was great. Thank you for sharing your journey for years. It’s truly been a treat to see you grow. I look forward to seeing the awesome things you make 2022. ❤️✨❤️✨
When using acryla gouache.. I normally make a diy stay wet palette in just a glass tray with some baking paper and water. It keeps the paint wet much longer! That might help! :)
So so good! I love the idea of 'solutions' instead of 'resolutions' such a positive outlook on things! This video was super detailed and extensive in all the info you give 😀 Thank you for always inspiring creators and artists!
Looove the guide lock tip, this is what I needed!! Also: I wanted to click on the links in the description to your socials and they don't seem to work. I thought you might want to know!:) (maybe this just happens on my computer, then I didn't say anything:))
Haha, I didn't expect my comment to show up in a video, that was a fun surprise :D Thank you for all the great tips! I love Leigh, Fran and Beatrice, too. They are all so lovely, kind and skilled
Just wanted to say what a big difference you've made to my life and creativity. Thank you Sha'an! So happy to be a part of your community and can't wait to continue to grow together. Much love and happy new year! - Meghan

3:25 *OMFG!! I'm happy I stumbled upon this video* because I was desperately looking for ways to stay creative and inspired by good times and not just by the horrible things I'm going through. "Keep Going" by Austin Kleon is a GREAT RECOMMENDATION for me!! 🤗
This was great! I love how you mention things to give ideas but encourage people to find what they like! I know in the past I’ve struggled with going with other people say because i tend to take advice as rules lol

Good to know, that others also watch artists vlogs where the art itself is not 100% what oneself personal tastes are. haha I felt bad for it for a while. XD Watching other artists do their thing, helped me drawing this year. Your vlogs as well, Sha'an. : ) All the best too you for the new year.
