    keep coming back here regularly since like 2013. It is a shame this video only has like 25k views. One of the best bass grooves on RUclips for sure.

    Man you remind me so much of a mix between Leonard Hubbard and one of Dilla's programmed bass lines... Both in the best way possible. This is ridiculously dope. The beats you make for these are incredible too!

    Wow, i've been following you for just a couple weeks and haven't seen all of your tracks yet. But this is amazing! Great Pino influences, right ánd left hand, but you are totally nailing it! And beautiful how you slide in the 'so what' line at the end of it. This is hardcore bass playing man.

  • @pittdejongh
    @pittdejongh 12 лет назад +5

    3:54 you play a 'so what' excerpt, at least to my ears. It's not the exact line, but it definitely has the sound/feel. I figured it might have come from somewhere inside you're musical repertoire and just punch out at the right moment ;)

      Khadir M hey! Glad you like it; actually i'm totally depending on what's available in the track: i just search for all the bassless spots and then try to string 'em together in a musical way; sometimes i fail, other times it comes up pretty well like here :)

    thanks bro :) i don't do it on purpose: i only pick up what i can to come up with bassless beats that have the sound and the groove of the track; it always ends up kinda randomly (here for instance, if i played the original bassline, it wouldn't even work;that's why i often come with my "own" lines)

    Hello Greg !
    i m already a big fan of all your videos and the technique you use (I m also so much influenced by Pino actually). I d just like to ask you if you could give me some tipps and notices to develop this technique with the thumb.
    Thank you !
    Greetings from Morocco.

    • @GregF71
      @GregF71  7 лет назад +4

      hey Kamil, actually i've no particular tips about technique other than "just pluck the strings with your thumb"
      this is not about fingers but about ears, listen carefully and learn stuff, not only basslines but anything, and eventually, you'll hear things naturally, without thinking...be patient though cause it might take a while ;) peace

    i plug in a bss ar-133 di box that goes in a m-audio fast track mk2, then i record with logic pro 9 and shoot at the same time with a sony dsc-hx9v. Finally, i synchronise audio and video in imovie.

    Damn this is tight as hell bro
    Noob bassist on/off for years and never properly practiced
    Any recommendations on how to do it right? Working on timing etc (I do use a metronome), scales to learn, songs to try

    • @GregF71
      @GregF71  4 года назад +3

      Thanks dude glad you dig it cause i believe this is my best upload :)
      Well i guess it's all about passion in the end: i've never worked on timing w/a click for instance but i basically dedicated 2 decades of my life spending time on guitar, bass, keys, samplers, programming, composing, producing, learning, practicing, rehearsing, gigging, jamming and investigating pretty much every single music related thing; I know this is gonna sound cliché af but just follow your instinct and you should figure out what to do.
      Besides, pretty much everything there is to learn and/or to be inspired by, is available on line for free, out there on YT for instance. This is an incredible source of knowledge, almost infinite cause it still grows: have a look at what it can lead to: ruclips.net/video/2oZsIlthHi8/видео.html i mean come on ! this is mind boggling !!!
      Also don't forget to have fun, that's crucial :) peace from France man
