- I discuss some health issues Roxy has been having and ponder on the prospect of our school and Clark returning to a 5 day in-person school week. I also mention how our love of LEGO Super Mario continues on and how I've started building the LEGO Batmobile while Clark destroys the backlog.

No probs Greg
brickitect No worries Greg, I really enjoyed the stream and the part where Mrs. Brickitect came down.
The stream was fun to watch! No need to apologise.
It’s okay
I am 14 and still don't have a phone, not because of my parents but I generally dislike them. I am thinking about getting one though this year because next year I am moving onto high school and many of my friends are going to different ones. I will never use it for anything else but contact (the intended purpose of a phone) and thats it. I think its utterly ridiculous that I have seen many kids with their own phones at around age 4, because soon as a phone becomes part of your life you miss out on so much, and at that age you don't want that to happen. I suggest wait until you are in your double digits to get a phone unless you walk to school by yourself at a younger age. I can't change anyones opinion on anything but if I could I would say use your cell for contact and thats it, stick to flip phones ;)
I agree
I’m 14 and I have had an iPad for almost three years and I’m sadly addicted to RUclips. I’m luckily getting back into reading through new Star Wars novels, but for the last week me and my family didn’t have power due to a squirrel on the power line. Those couple days were weirdly great since we were offline and I had some of the best moments with my family and it made me realize that my iPad can’t control my life.
I hope Roxy Bear can beat this, she is an elder around us, I personally have gone through two dogs passing away, and hope Clark doesn’t have to go through it...
Darth 192 Definitely...
19:20 that actually scared me when I saw Clark in the background
I can listen to this while I build my LEGO sets I love your podcast Greg thanks for filling my day with your great podcast
Ahhh yes Clark Vader joins the grand army of the missing pieces.
Not a very grand army if everyone's missing is it?
Clark should be in every episode of missing pieces.
NAH!
That would just be a Brickitect video though.
My win of the week is that I got hired for a new job in a Special Ed. classroom. I am working on my special dmed degree so I am excited for the experience.
I think Clark should get a phone the same age I did when he is starting middle school or secondary school. He will need it for school work and to call you if something is wrong or he needs to ask you something
He doesn’t necessarily need a phone although it would be convenient. How did they survive before the internet?
I agree OshBricks YT at the start of middle school or at the end of 6th grade
it’s so funny to me that you have to keep telling Clarky it’s a podcast and we can’t see him 😂😂
Greg I suggest you send Clark to school for a week to see if he likes it if not keep him home
And ignore lockdown?
@@zev-gb8dk if schools are opening I doubt they are in a full lockdown going to school for a week only is the safest option rather than going full time
Hey Greg, Great podcast today! About what you were talking about with clark going back to school, my school is going back to full days tomorrow, and I don't want to be a downer but I am worried about how they will handle it. I read the letter from the Superintendent, and it included language such as "Social Distancing will not be guaranteed," and pictures of our small cafeteria that can barley hold 1/8 of the student population when they are crammed in like sardines, with tape lines on it and a message saying that: "All students will eat lunch at school." I don't know about clark's school, but I think that though it is a difficult time for schools, they cannot only half try at this or give up on social distancing. Anyway, I think that you and Mrs. Brickitect are very well handled to deal with this situation, and give Clark the best guidance you can because you can see from your Greg's World videos that even when you are at home you guys are willing to put in the time to make sure clark gets the best education possible.
i have a 5 year old he stays at home , like you said he still has 12 years to do all that home is more safe
About your topic on the age to get electronics, as a 15 year old, I really respect how my parents guided and raised me in this social media age. I got my first phone when I turned 9 because my parents said I needed a method to communicate with them on my new and longer walk to school. They controlled it strongly, and I learned that I should ask them to download things and make new accounts even after I realized that I could get away without doing so. Now I am in highschool, and my life is surrounded by technology. I am constantly using my laptop for school, my PC for coding and playing games, or my phone to communicate and watch RUclips videos. I am however very happy that I learned to use it in moderation, and I feel sorry for the kids I see in school who can't seem to go 5 minutes without checking their phone even if they know it will get them in trouble. Sorry for the long answer, but in the end I think that it is less about the age of the child, but how much understanding they have. You have to communicate the risks to them, so that they are not out of their element when they start getting deeper into the digital world, and teach them to use it as a tool (As the documentary said), and not let it control you. Thanks for the great episode, and thought provoking question.
My win of the week is doing something I love, like LEGO, Pets, and painting, and listening to others peoples story’s...
Great video Greg. I love when you make these videos because when I am bored I can just watch this.
This was an amazing episode! My win of the week is I started building star wars Mangalore in Lego it is 2 base plates by 3 base plates or 10 by 30 in. Sorry for the long comment.
Another awesome Episode Greg! My son just recently went back hybrid 3rd grade. He didn’t want to go but he does now look forward to going. It’s been great to keep a teacher connection and some engagement outside the digital world with friends. I don’t think you can go wrong since you’re such wonderful parents. Legoitect thought: school is like Lego Theme sets with instructions and Lego MOC building is the creative side. Both are great skills to learn in life.
Right now i am 12 years old and i dont have a phone. My parents have not give me a phone. My parents say they will give me a phone when am 14 years old but they are still considering it.
My win of the week was finding/building the NES set. I went to my local Lego store to buy either the Razor Crest or the Hidden Side castle set, but after aimlessly pacing the store for ages, I decided I’d probably get the most out of the NES, and boy was I right. I had already seen plenty of reviews (yours included, of course) and I already thought it was the most brilliant thing Lego has come up with, and building it only reinforced that opinion. 2020 has been full of phenomenal sets, but this one takes the cake. My favorite part might be how the spring-loaded cartridge tray thing works exactly like the real thing. One of my roommates even thought it was one of those imitation NES’s with a ton of games pre-loaded on it because of how accurate it looked. Building the level part reminded me a lot of building the Sith Art set. It was monotonous, but in a therapeutic sort of way.
My win of the week was getting through the first quarter of school and getting to fall break. I'm in my first year of high school and man has it been tiring. Having work to do all the time, it was almost strange to wake up the next morning and not having to work on something or turn something in. I love listening to this, keep it up.
Great video, I think the vast majority of children would, if given the choice, say they wanted to stay at home rather than go to school
Thanks for sharing 😉
Hi again. I was interested to hear that Educational Researchers suggest early years in school are the most important particularly for emotional and social learning with each other. One thing I love most about your videos is seeing the fantastic learning experiences that Clark gets to have. Sadly a lot of kids don't get such social engagement at home.
My friend's lab was really poorly and they discovered he was allergic to gluten and wheat. He had similar infections to Roxy. As soon as his food was changed he did much better bless him.
Hi, my opinion is that if you count the safety reasons and how happy Clark is with you, playing with Legos, RC cars and all kinds of fun stuff, I don't think it's worth it to send him 5 days a week but this just my opinion. I just think you should do the best for him. And about the phone, I got my first phone when I was 14 but I had a RUclips a channel before that I was just uploading videos from my iPad.
Win of the week: Live streaming a game (Among Us) for the first time ever on my channel!
To be honest I don't remember my kindergarten years😂
Big fan love these videos
Hi Ya Greg, my win of the week was doing 5 pull ups on my pull up bar, this is a win because just last week I was only able to do 3. Another win of the week was getting an “A” on a geometry test which I was most certain I was going to fail lol. I wanted to also say that seeing Clark sneak down was very funny 😆 . Really enjoyed the episode and Clark, keep it up.
my win of the week was buying my cousin a police station set and building it with him (he's five)
My win of the week was it was my 16th birthday so I got to spend time with my friends and family and for my birthday i got the creator expert roller coaster which I’m building while listening to missing pieces. Love the podcast, have a great day.
Amazing podcast. My win of the week is that i got a LEGO set for completing my first month of school and also getting nice grades on my test.
My win of the week is that I was able to find a really good deal on a Legends of Chima set I have been wanting for a while. I found Spinlyn's Cavern a set that cost $40 new, but averages $36-$50 sealed in box, I got it sealed and in the box for $25 on ebay with free shipping. I am also happy to have found out that this theme is actually pretty cheap with several sets that are unopened costing less than they did when they came out. I'm also glad to hear that Roxy is doing well.
Online learning is rubbish. I am doing the last year of my degree online, which is a massive kick in the teeth for me as I am on a creative course so no access to any of the studio facilities is super frustrating and I barely have a social life anymore. And while I agree with you that teachers are partly slacking on the work, we have to remember they have been given an unprecedented task in doing online learning, so it is unfair for us to give them crap, I would be awful at organising hundreds of students to do online learning.
And with regards to sending Clark in, I think you should, because holding onto him for too long can feel like he is being cocooned where he has come to the age where he should be able to spread his wings. If I was given the choice to go into school and see my friends now, I would 110% take it. Yes COVID is a risk and things will not be the same, just seeing my friends and other people my age would make me so happy, and I am sure it will help Clark grow as a person too. Hope this helps.
Agreed, but I would rather be alive then be able to see my friends. Even if it is a small risk, you never know.
Brooke forrest The chances of someone dying under the age of 15 of covid are the same odds of being struck by lightning. Not saying there arent risks but I’m sure kindergartens have a lot a measures in place to severely reduce the risk
@@flx4711 yes, but he could spread it to other, older, more vulnerable people. The risk of getting struck by lightning is 0.0003, while the risk of dying from Covid under the age of 15 is 0.007.
@@flx4711 also Greg said that they were scrapping social distancing.
Brooke forrest I won’t get into this.
Love Clark in the background haha
I hope Coty is okay!
Hey Greg! My win of the week was finally playing among us with my friends! We all go to a park, play together and have so much fun! Another win of the week was starting to reread (for the 100th time..) the Harry Potter books! I wanted to do that for a while but I never got around into doing that.
I got my first phone when I was in 7th grade/13 years old. I think that is the perfect time because you learn how bad the internet can be but also had much of a tool it can be used as. I think 16 years old is a little late considering you can legally drive a car by than. Thanks for the awesome podcast!
Hey Greg, I'm 20 and a junior in college. My parents gave me my first phone when I was 12 and at least from my experience, the age for when kids should have their own devices is complicated. You do need to be careful and watchful of your kids and what they are exposed to and what could influence them but I also feel there is some level of trust. You need to give them some level of trust but the amount of trust depends on also what kind of kid they are. You truly don't know if your kid will listen and be careful on their own but ometimes the greatest lessons we learn are from simply making mistakes. I guess my opinion would be is to take it one step at a time and see whether you feel Clark is able to handle the responsibility. (Also my win of the week was surviving my midterms/getting the new winter village set). Thanks again for your time Greg and hope both you and Clark continue to live each day to the best of your ability. :)
Hi Greg. Long time listening first time caller or whatever the saying is. Im a 17 year old from New Zealand. I just wanted to follow up on the phone thing. I got my first phone when I started high school when I was 11. I got it for the main reason of calling and texting in an emergency or if I needed to contact someone as I was getting to the age where I went out alone. Phones can be very useful for that purpose and even though it was a smart phone I didn't start to use it to access the Internet until I was about 13, instead I just played games. I was well informed at school about the harms of the internet and so I knew about targeted ads etc and the dodgy stuff before I started using it. I feel as though 13 is the right age IF EDUCTED WELL which I'm sure Clark will be. Just wanted to say that I have been a huge fan of what u do and I've been watching u since 10k. Keep up the good work. Jepe (pronounced jeppy)
Hello Greg, to answer your question of the week, I got my first phone at 10 years old. It was my moms old phone. Then at 12 I got my official new phone. I think that was a good age because I was going to different activities and if I had to text my parents for an emergency I could do that. I feel like for any child, giving them a phone at their early teens/preteen years and show them how to use it and the responsibilities of the phone, they can use it wisely. If they know how to use it correctly and not do anything harmful, then by all means go for it. Just giving my thoughts to you and wanted to answer your question!
About the response about keeping the child away from the internet until they are 16, I know that I might not have the strongest ground to stand on as a 15 year old, but I just want to say that keeping it away from them for that long might not even be feasible anymore. Schools and such make it almost necessary, and connecting it to Greg's comments on kindergarten, they have become part of the social environment. I by no means that you should give kids access to the whole internet as soon as they can use a touch screen, but I think that what is more effective is to teach kids about the dangers, and benefits of social media, and slowly phase them up so that when they have to start operating on their own they are not left behind. Use parental control tools like child lock, time limits, website blockers, and mandatory parental passwords to make sure that they are moving at a pace that is safe, and be firm on it and don't start letting go. This way I think kids can both learn to use and communicate in this digital age, but you can still control and guide them through it as they are forced to use this environment.
There is something to be said to the interaction kids have at school, both positive and negative, as a learning and life lesson. I would love to have the flexibility you have to spend more time with my kids but I also know I am not a great teacher and their education would lack the needed substance as I would not have the time necessary with work to dedicate the focus it would need. I truly respect what a good teacher brings to the table and to my kids and I appreciate the teachers in our lives.
The only social media I will give my kids is tiktok and RUclips
Ok , tiktok is one of the most toxic social medias out there, wouldn't let them use that
It’s easy to go from dancing to over sexualised content on tictok
BlitzenProductions I will check everyday their tiktok
Hope City feel better quick.hats off to Clark mastering mouse .I still have trouble with the mouse but then I dislike computers too. Stay safe.
I was given a go phone that was touch screen and slide to open to a keypad was pretty cool but had no internet access just text and call and the programmed games on it and I think a camera but I was twelve and I walked home from school and needed to text my mom at work to ask after school if I could go somewhere and keep in touch with her also wasnt given a smart phone until I was in 8th grade and it was a iphone 4 but my mom trusted me and knew I was being more responsible so there's that.
My win of the week was making a video with my friend and even though it was not the best it is just a nice experience to make it I also had a pretty good week in other I did some fun things with my friends and life can be short but you have to make the best with what you have
My win of the week was getting tons and tons of homework done and will get the 2015 micro manger vs meateabeard. Hope Coty feels better and have a good week
We defiantly don't want Clark go to school with a spiffy mark and come back with a mine craft one
Poor Roxy bear...
oh my goodness. I feel so bad for Roxy. I hope she is doing better soon
My win of the week....it was my Birthday!;)
Ps meant City. Great to see and hear Clark in episode. Hope too r o x y is feeling better soon. Stay safe.
I got my phone when I was going into 7th grade or when I was 12. I personally felt that this was the right time for me because I felt like everyone around me was getting phones and it was sort of a tool I needed to have at my access for when I hang out with friends or when I am out at places. One time when I was 11 I felt a phone would have been truly essential was when my sports practice got moved and I was stuck at the place for a while in the dark until my parents came to pick me up. Phones can do so much good but also so much bad and honestly, it is up to you when Clark-man should get his phone. Also sorry for such a long comment. Also, love the podcast!
11:55 yes Greg. I do that every single day. I imagine what my future self would come back and say, only to realise that my future self isn’t really there.
Love your videos 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I’m Glad Roxy is feeling better!
My win of the week was getting 3 new Batman face masks 😷 . A very small win but still a win.
I was 30 when I got my first phone. I was teaching in a college in China, and they made me have one! I wasn't happy. I was dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming. Heh heh heh
I got a phone when I was nine and looking back it was probably to early. However my parents trusted me and luckily I haven’t let them down. Something I have learned is never keep someone fully away from something because that will make them want it more. The perfect thing would be to slowly give more access and give responsibility while showing what the respobsible and mature thing to do is. Worse then kids who get on the internet at a early age is a young adult who gets it and doesn’t understand their what the consequences could be.
I seriously think you should keep Clark home. If you send him back you wouldn’t just be sacrificing your time with him, you could also be potentially risking him and maybe your family getting sick. I don’t have a phone yet, but I have an iPod. I first got it when I was 11. I think that was still too young, but from that I’ve learned some valuable lessons about how family and friends and your personal life is far greater than video games or social media. I consider myself fairly responsible now though, and I do worry about the younger generations. If could go back, I’d wait until I was at least 13 to get a phone, but even then, I would have to think about how responsible I am like Jim said. My win of the week was having a four day weekend. School has been stressful and I really am enjoying the break. Great podcast as always! Sorry for the super long comment 😂
I have a 20 year old and a 19 year old. If I had the opportunity to spend a year with them when they were 5 and didn’t I would regret it now. It. Goes. So. Fast.
Hey Dude. I really feel for you and Koty having to make the decision about sending the Clarkman back to school 5 days a week. I find myself a lot of the time in life trying to be a bit more 'like Greg' but this is one time I feel fortunate not to have that decision to make. Wee DJ being a year younger than Clark means he is only in his preschool year here in Scotland so by only being at Nursery 2.5 days a week he is not missing out on too much, and any educational activities he is having are in the form of play and craft. Sending all our best wishes that you, Koty and Clark are able to make the best decision for you all at this difficult time.
PS, hope Mrs Brickitect is feeling better and the Chima test comes back negative. Stay Safe!!!!
Hey Greg next episode of the podcast your build of the 1989 bat mobile stay safe and see you in the next video
My win of the week was getting one of my most wanted set lego mario
An unexpected guest but a welcome one!
Clark needs to do some podcasts🙂
Hi Greg, My win of the week was getting all my homework done on time and being able to rebuild old sets. Also, do you think Clark would be less confident if he was not having his life being filmed. I wish me and my dad had such a bond as you and Clark. Long time subscriber and soon to be Patron, Oliver
Clark may want to stay home but I would say it’s your responsibility to let him interact with others his age. Friendships start early, letting him get behind may turn him into an outsider. JMO
smh if i had a family like you guys growing up i would have been a better kid
Hi Greg, I’m 14 and from the uk. I totally agree with the dangers of social media, especially apps like Facebook and Instagram (Facebook being initially created to bully mark's fellow students), however youtube has proven the great education that can't be provided by other means of social media ( like your podcasts😀). It's all about monitoring, for youtube it has been immensely helpful for revision as I reach my gcse year (i think they’re called finals in America) but turn on different parental settings, and of course don't be a parent who buys gta (intended for 18 and over) and yet complains about the violence and the influence it has on kids (even though I know an amazing parent like you ,greg, wouldn't anyway). Happy home learning, Matthew.
Greg can you please bring back breaking it down
I was homeschooled from most of my life I loved it I had a better relationship with my parents and I think it’s better for children to be homeschooled rather than be stuck in a room and a school for seven hours when you can get all your work done in three hours
I have a strange analogy for you about the whole 'when to let your kid do something' issue. Bare with me... When I was a 12 year old kid, all my pals had started to shave their legs. Lets face it, 12 year old kid's legs start to get hairy. My mum refused point blank to let me shave my legs, I guess she didn't want her little girl to grow up too soon... Bless. So a year of been taunted by all the hair free kids I finally took a stand " they're my legs and I'm shaving them!" (Said with Yorkshire accent). I'm guessing it's the same with everything else, you're only as strong as the parent who gives up first. The parent who let the 12 year old have an iPhone (or shave their legs) first sets off the snow ball effect. Heh heh heh.
Hi Greg I Know this may sound Harsh but I really think you need to be firm but fair Clark really needs to be spending more time with kids his own age at school
My parents gave me my first phone when I was 14 and starting high school. As a kid in school they taught us so much about online safety and keeping your information safe with tips like have a strong password and never give out your real name to strangers. If people are responsible enough and are taught the importance of online safety from a young age I do not think there is a problem with giving children access to the internet as long as it is monitored.
I'm currently 16 and I remember getting a small track phone I think when I was like 11. I remember only using it for calls and Lego Hero Factory games. Later on when I was like 13 I got a Samsung, but I stayed off of social media because I knew of its dangers. I'm currently on some of social media apps, but I don't really post anything since I don't have any interest to and I understand the dangers of posting things.
It takes me like 3 hours for my school work
Hope roxy gets better
Can you try and make a LEGO IDEAS set for something you like?? also what mail should i send you?
Hello i love your videos
I got my phone when I started secondary school
Greg I want to tell you as a dad that I understand wanting to spoil Clark and wanting him home. But though it doesn’t seem like it now what’s best for Clark is to send him to school. He’s starting to want to just be with you and in the future this could be very bad. On another not you should start bring Clark to target and not letting him get anything so he sees that it’s not always a given to get a toy and there needs to be good behavior. That’s a good lesson now and forever you have to work for good thing they don’t just come. Also stop contradicting his teachers he needs to learn that you have to follow rules and be with the class not ahead or he will be an outsider in everything learnin* to follow rules is crucial
:)
I got a phone when I was 12, I would say it was a good decision because I think I was mature enough (mentally) and almost every kid in my school and a phone even kids that were in their first years of Elementary. But I think it really depends on how mature the kid is to give him access to social media because you can be 16 yr old and be very immature or a 12 yr old that is very mature
P.S: Great Podcast
No please no 5 day a week we will miss clarkman
Clark man was there a long time !!!
Keep him home for kindergarten.he has 12 years for school.if you want sociation sign him up for t ball or some sort of sport.
Love your vids I wish I could support you on patreon but I find it too much money but I wish I could support you anyway love your vids and keep up the good work!
hey brickitect my name is jeremiah i am big fan of your channel and i have subscribed to your channel and i was wondering if you were going to get the lego pirates of barracuda bay
woah i take prednisone
You should make a channel for only Clark
I was 32 when I got a cellphone
I don’t think this school year is the time for Clark to be social. I just know it’s gonna be limited.
Would a 5 year old want to be social with mask of course, and such.
So I say wait one more year.
I think the age that kids should have a phone is 9 or 10
Nah. I think 12 is the appropriate age
ilovelegos2000 agreed! I think some should get a phone from ages 12 and up
I got my phone when I was 11 however it was one you could only call and text on this was how I proved I could look after a phone i then got my first smart phone when I was 12 which was still a realitively cheap one to prove I could use it but all the accounts where my parents
Just home school Clark Greg.
was clark ever alive to meet max?
Clark man Clark man Clark man Clark man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I say 12 is a good age for a child to get a phone or 11 one of them
***warning looong comment***
Greg i want to comment on the teacher you said that was putting youtube vids as assiments,i have half a school year in remote learnig (im in 9th btw) and i feel that the teachers are not going so hardcore and complicated, they take their time to explain the topic and makes activities about it and that stuff,we don't use youtube that much (well only me bc im watching youtube vids) maybe its not good comparing a 9th grader to a kinder gardener but anyway thats my comment, from an outside perspective i think its better for clark to stay with you, because of chima but the thing is how long would you let your child be at home bc of the virus..........(i don't know bc i don't have a child).sorry for long comment btw
