I grew up (Pentecostal) Christian in Minnesota. I personally blame constant religious trauma for many of my issues. I’ve done therapy for 8 years now in efforts to help heal. I’ve come a long way - I no longer cry just from passing a random church anymore and I even have a close friend who is religious (which before was just too painful for me). But even with all the pain from so many years, I still cannot deny how amazing it is to go into a beautiful place of worship or how moving the music can be, even to a militant atheist. You’d have to be blind and deaf not to appreciate at least that aspect of religion. I think the rest of it is basically a bunch of trash and whatever “good” comes from it doesn’t outweigh the pain and suffering it causes, but that’s just my opinion. “Good without god” is my motto! I don’t think anyone needs any sort of magical or faith based beliefs to be a humanitarian. These mosques are beautiful! I bet it was really wonderful to see and experience in person!
