  • Replacing an old or damaged diaphragm on a stethoscope is fairly easy, and brings new life to old equipment

Thank you for this video. I’m an EMT. My cardiology IV is due for a new diaphragm and I have been stressing out about putting on the new one. Thank you for this.

Thank you for this video, which helped me successfully replace the diaphragms on my Cadiology III.
One suggestion for future videos. We all appreciate the memories of our loved ones who have passed on, so that being said the only person who appreciates your father’s memory is you. Because of this the first half of the video was wasted on useless nostalgia, and your stammering about the obvious features of the stethoscope, just my 2 cents.
Anyone who is looking to replace diaphragms just fast forward to about 3:40 of the video. The information you need starts there. Also, the talcum powder suggestion really helped too. Thanks again.

Thanks, Paul. Now I know I need a ring. Who knows how long I would have tried to work the edge of the diaphragm under the metal rim of the stethoscope if I'd not checked here?

The diaphragm/rim keeps getting loose, even falls off. What to do? Glue it?
Obviously replacement would be another option but...

I have a Cardiology II, it's over 20yrs old, and I'm not sure about which diaphragm to use as replacement. I have tried to find information about it, and I find mixed reviews. The diaphragm that you changed looks very similar, almost identical to the one that I have. I was wondering if I should go with the floating diaphragm because I have a standard bell side.

So how do you remove a diaphragm on discontinued Littmann's? It seems to be a precursor to the Classic II that was made from 1961-2000, and doesn't have any black surrounding the diaphragm, but has a rubber sleeve over the bell. Since it's in full working order, I'd still like to refurbish it as a spare just in case a patient decides to play tug-of-war with my new scope...also, the 22" tubing does not prove helpful when auscultating around a horse, so if you could, please post a video on replacing the binaurals. And just as a side note, the bell is fabulous when working with guinea pigs. Thanks!

I broke one of the metal tubes and one earpiece fell off, it can't be fixed I suppose?
but where can I get spare parts. I found ones but they're close to the full thing!

    Hi!
This is off topic but what options do you have when the chest piece is stuck firmly in one position and won't rotate to allow use of bell or vice a versa

Me too. I think my diaphragm isn’t work fully 100% and I’ve noticed difficulty hearing obvious sounds,
So I’m just going to buy a new one. Wish Littman would replace them …

That’s only one way. If your stethoscope is 30 years old and brittle, the blow test might not work.

The instructions don't start until 5:12 and then you can't see what he's doing because the video isn't top-down and his hands are in the way. However, I am clearly in the minority for not finding the video helpful so I'm open to admitting I could just be stupid.
