In reality, the second prototype didn't have the missile launchers, so cosmetically this premium is based on the original prototype. But stat-wise it's the downgraded second prototype. (Hopefully if Wargaming does that, it'll be as the next set of campaigns, or even a bonds shop tank. Or perhaps even the top of a new branch of the Chinese medium tech tree. It's a cool tank that I wouldn't mind seeing in the game, but I would want it to be accessible to more than just the elite players.)

With bond rammer and vents + bia you can reach 1830 DPM which is equal to M4A1 Rev. without any equipment or bia. And Rev. isn't known for it's great DPM

Despite the reload, I love how this tank looks! A chinese medium tank with good accuracy, aimtime and gun depression combined with amazing turret armor will make this tank a hulldown monster in my opinion. This will for sure make a great birthday present for myself, and thank you for the review QB!

Sometimes having lower dpm isn't such a bad thing . When you have a high dpm low alpha tank every second after realoading you don't fire you are losing dpm that makes you takes high risk shots which ends up killing you more quickly thus you don't do good damage either way. With a solid tank like this you get to have relaxed gameplay . You don't have constantly be hypervigilant about hitting enemy thus allowing you to make cool headed desicions that often results in you winning more.
I don't really focus much on dpm. Vk 75.01 k, amx cda 105, kannonenjagdpanzer are my fav tanks and they do have abysmal dpm. It really isn't that often that one can use dpm fully (mostly when someone rushes). And even if one would be to use dpm to dictate which one would win that wouldn't be so obvious. For example Maus has bad dpm but reliable armor and a ton of health. Let's say a obj140 is going 1v1 with full gold both of them so that all shots will penetrate. Maus has far more hp and would stand victorious in this duel. Therefore I suggest to look at tanks considering health times dpm. That would be the Combat Effectiveness (CE) where CE=DPM*HP/1000 (divided so we don't end up with millions). Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

No, the other aspects more than make up for it. It has heavy tank armor with gun depression, great penetration accuracy and decent mobility. I actually enjoyed playing the t44 with the 390 alpha gun so I’m really looking forward to seeing what this tank can do
My first 2 tier 10s in the game were the Chinese ones, it's great as after playing 1000s of games in them everything else I played from other nations after felt like easy mode 😅

I actually like the high alpha in return for low dpm, because I don't usually find myself in drawn out, stationary fights. I'm either trading shot for shot, or taking occasional shots at targets when I see them come up.
regarding the design, this is one of the prototypes for the WZ-122 project. the tubes on the turret are for wire-guided missiles. yes, this thing was designed to fire ATGMs
I feel like this will be a pain to play against with that alpha, pen, and armor.. Also it will be situationally a pain to play but in most games it'll be fun handing out those big alpha sledge blows.
I think this tank is just a heavy support. Im no unicum (or even ranked) but my instincts tell me their intent was a medium that can move into a heavy lane (especially if it has ridges) and aid its team's heavies

After getting this tank in the boxes this christmas event, the statistics are abysmal but in practice it is a very fun and amazing tank. This and the Skoda T56 are my favorite tier 8 tanks right now.
Finished the marathon in 7 days. Could have done it in 6 if I really tried. Averaged about 8-10 hours play everyday which is not viable for people with full time job ofc. Pretty tired after the marathon, but I really like the tank so far.
I like the balancing on this tank. The idea I have of it is that is allows the tank to perform equally well against every tier. So instead of having 2000 dpm where you shred tier 6s, but then not being able to pen tier 10s, instead you just get to plunk away at your enemies with low dpm at every tier
DPM is kind of a misleading stat though right? It's a theoretical maximum if you're able to shoot as soon as your reloaded and that your shot will pen? Would you rather pen 13/13 shots in a game with 400 alpha or pen 13/17 shots in a game, with 390 alpha? These aren't the actual number but you get the idea.
Considering the launchers are linked to be pointed the same way as the gun, in essence aimed at the same time, and their size compared to other smoke launchers in-game on the tanks, those are probably rocket tubes, not smoke launchers. Think Zuni Rockets from BF4, probably.
I'm late for the review, however when I play this tank I use it for brawling purposes against (Heavy tanks) not medium tanks. My equip setup is (Bounty Turbo for the Engine power, Bond vents, and bounty gun rammer) It does me very well matches and with a skilled crew maybe it could get 435 to 440 meters view range. Still at 2 skilled crew.
Ok just hear me out on this... this tank as the tier 8 heavy in a new branch. The 113 brought down and rebalanced as the tier 9, and then a chinese brawler tank like a 60tp or vk72 at tier 10. Could have bad depression, and weakspots but maybe the 560 alpha version of the 5A gun.
This tank is in my top three favorite tier 8 premiums. It's made me a better player by forcing me to think about positions and shots much more carefully. That gun is ridiculous. And in a tier six game, you can pretty much be a heavy tank. 9/10 for me Edit:. It's also one of the coolest looking tanks. Except for that really garish skin, that is just tacky haha
My fav premium is 122 TM. I love the gun DPM is awful but I love 400 alpha with 233mm of APCR pen with great velocity and 299mm of HEAT pen with decent gun handling,8° of gun depresion,awsome turret armour,troll hull armour it's very solid tank. I thought this tank is terrible because of DPM and lot of peoples still hate this tank because it has worst in class DPM. But when other stats are awsome DPM doesn't matter. It's kinda like a T20 at tier VIII
I wish that Wargaming would take the armor model that this tank has (strong turret, but with weak points you can at least hit) and apply it to the over powered heavily armored tanks in the game

The thing with balancing a tank with its DPM is that DPM often times doesnt matter unless you're fighting on an open, plane field. If you're on a city-map for example or just fight an enemy using covor, where the engagement is really stationary, like it often is these days, the DPM isnt that important. Because if you're in a position where you cant get rushed by the enemy, it doesnt matter if they can fire 2 or 4 times in the time that you are reloading cause you're not leaving cover before your've finished reloading anyway. So in that situation its always a 1 to 1 trade of shots thats always won by high alphadamage, good pen and armor. And this new tank has all of this. So its gonna be strong most of the time. Imagine a dream-scenario where you're inside this tank and you're playing in a platoon with an autoloader that has a high clip-potential. You're sitting there trying to hold enemys back with your armor and damage and if someone tries to rush you they get taken out the game by your friend. So all in all its gonna be a strong one imo.

QB has spent the last 2-3 weeks complaining about the awful dpm of the Italian heavies, so it’s really weird to see him in an apologist role for this tank. “The dpm is so bad that the enemies forget about you!” O.k., that’s just weird praise.
The launchers I think are ATGM tubes, but WG covered em up to not give people false ideas. I guess WG was inspired by the WZ-122 prototype from the 60s, that had ATGMs mounted on the turret

Enjoy the stupid balancing tactic of increasing repair costs on tanks that are overperforming(which btw does nothing but lock ftp players out of said tank), then later increasing the BR but keeping the same stupidly high repair costs. They're making the German M48, which is better than all the other M48s, 6.7, while all the other M48s are 7.3. I think the key part is the Armor of this tank. Sure it's DPM is trash, but like you said, it's going to be Mid-long range, on a ridgeline, with a god tier turret... It's going to become a force to be reckoned with. And lower tiers, as well as same tier, will need to load the gold in order to deal with it. And even then, not all of them will be able to hurt it.
I like this tank allot. Kinda op I'd say. Yes the rof is bad but armour wise it's very tough compared to most other tier 8 mediums i have. Play it to it's strengths and it's a tank that rarely fails the player.
I guess the counter is to prioritize the autoloaders, retreat when needed, hold your fire as a "shell in being", and fight with team mates nearby -- don't try to lone ranger it in this tank.
I feel like this tank is pretty balanced. It is mobile but not super fast, has really good armor but with wakspots, awesome alpha and pen at cost of abysmal dpm and so on. WG did a good job. It is a shame that there are some tanks with no weaknesses.

Play with fire extinguisher, not food. Play with high standard penetration tanks. I recommend the obj 277 line or a TD line. You can also play light tanks, focus on spotting and staying alive until the end of the battle, when you can flank and penetration is not that important. You can go watch taugrim on youtube, he's super good, and plays only with standard ammo.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but if the game is being played too fast and they want to slow it down, why not lower the dpm globally? What I mean by that is to take all the dpms in the game and lower them by some degree in order to slow down the game. A good example would be lowering the average dpm at tier 8 to 1.8k and the average dpm at tier 10 to 2.2k (these numbers are without gunramers, vents and the like). I got this idea from being a Rainbow Six Siege player and when Ubisoft realized that the game was being played far too crackhead like (brainlessness was being rewarded more than planning and methodical action) they did a global ADS (aim down sight) speed slow down for all gun types. This not only gave angled grips (an attachment that sped up ADS speed at the cost of recoil) a purpose, but slowed down the game a lot more. Dpm like this wouldn’t be a problem if the greatest dpm possible at each tier was lowered more.
I imagine low DPM high alpha tanks are going to be introduced with more frequency as a way to slow the pace of the game down a bit, by forcing the high DPM tanks to choose between saving their HP or possibly getting knocked out in 2 to 3 hits.
That's gonna super challenging because good players will work around that. Example: sure I can get slapped for 400 alpha, but if I can then put two or three shots into you for one of your shots, I can kill you faster. Result is the game actually gets faster because you have tanks that can kill their way through something vs a tank that can't. It's like Obj. 140 meets Jg pz E 100 syndrome, if you know what I mean
@@Aquifilia That is a very possible outcome! I won't deny that! In fact it's very probable, given the skill gap between average players (like me) and good players. I know for a fact if I'm gonna get slapped for a quarter, a third ,or even half my hit points then I'm gonna hesitate and wait for an opening. I know that's not always the best response, but it's what I do in that situation. So if Wargaming can create that situation for more people more often, if they can create hesitation, the game should slow down a bit.
I think that dpm might just ruin it for me, I hate tanks with dpm that low... except the elc... thats a exception. Then again I love the rino... so maybe ill love this thing. also if a chimera can have 440 alpha and a 12 second reload how come this things reload is literally 1.5 seconds worse???

It’s weird cause the T-34-3 has quite a few of those things besides the gun depression and armor and the DPM is way higher for 10 less dmg

The "smoke grenade launchers" are a bit large for being smoke launchers. Personally I think they are Rocket pods , a bit like a T34 Sherman Calliope
I suspect it's a Type 63 rocket launcher. They had variants of them mounted on the Type 69 and 80 tanks on the side much like this.

I actually like the high alpha in return for low dpm, because I don't usually find myself in drawn out, stationary fights. I'm either trading shot for shot, or taking occasional shots at targets when I see them come up.
regarding the design, this is one of the prototypes for the WZ-122 project. the tubes on the turret are for wire-guided missiles. yes, this thing was designed to fire ATGMs

I think this is the most balanced tank in the game, maybe if they increased dpm by 100 or pen at 245 it would be perfect
I hope we see more tanks like this. Low dpm tanks that benefit from good positioning. Maybe after enough time the game will slow down a bit
I feel like this will be a pain to play against with that alpha, pen, and armor.. Also it will be situationally a pain to play but in most games it'll be fun handing out those big alpha sledge blows.
I think this tank is just a heavy support. Im no unicum (or even ranked) but my instincts tell me their intent was a medium that can move into a heavy lane (especially if it has ridges) and aid its team's heavies

After getting this tank in the boxes this christmas event, the statistics are abysmal but in practice it is a very fun and amazing tank. This and the Skoda T56 are my favorite tier 8 tanks right now.
Finished the marathon in 7 days. Could have done it in 6 if I really tried. Averaged about 8-10 hours play everyday which is not viable for people with full time job ofc. Pretty tired after the marathon, but I really like the tank so far.

This looks like the perfect tank for me. I'm ok with the low reload speed when I can use that time to reposition.
I like the balancing on this tank. The idea I have of it is that is allows the tank to perform equally well against every tier. So instead of having 2000 dpm where you shred tier 6s, but then not being able to pen tier 10s, instead you just get to plunk away at your enemies with low dpm at every tier

I believe these are SAM launchers or for ATMs. Similar design can be found on North Korean T62s.
3:04 to be fair, I didn't expect anything less given it's literally a T-62A with an IS-3's gun shoehorned into the turret.

DPM is kind of a misleading stat though right? It's a theoretical maximum if you're able to shoot as soon as your reloaded and that your shot will pen? Would you rather pen 13/13 shots in a game with 400 alpha or pen 13/17 shots in a game, with 390 alpha? These aren't the actual number but you get the idea.
Considering the launchers are linked to be pointed the same way as the gun, in essence aimed at the same time, and their size compared to other smoke launchers in-game on the tanks, those are probably rocket tubes, not smoke launchers. Think Zuni Rockets from BF4, probably.
I think WG really want to solve the turbo-match problem with those new tanks with super bad DPM like GSOR, Italian HTs and this

I use it like a heavy. I go to the front line, hide my lower plate and side scrape. I’ve had teir 10 bounce off me constantly.
I'm late for the review, however when I play this tank I use it for brawling purposes against (Heavy tanks) not medium tanks. My equip setup is (Bounty Turbo for the Engine power, Bond vents, and bounty gun rammer) It does me very well matches and with a skilled crew maybe it could get 435 to 440 meters view range. Still at 2 skilled crew.
Ok just hear me out on this... this tank as the tier 8 heavy in a new branch. The 113 brought down and rebalanced as the tier 9, and then a chinese brawler tank like a 60tp or vk72 at tier 10. Could have bad depression, and weakspots but maybe the 560 alpha version of the 5A gun.

This tank is in my top three favorite tier 8 premiums. It's made me a better player by forcing me to think about positions and shots much more carefully. That gun is ridiculous. And in a tier six game, you can pretty much be a heavy tank. 9/10 for me

My fav premium is 122 TM. I love the gun DPM is awful but I love 400 alpha with 233mm of APCR pen with great velocity and 299mm of HEAT pen with decent gun handling,8° of gun depresion,awsome turret armour,troll hull armour it's very solid tank. I thought this tank is terrible because of DPM and lot of peoples still hate this tank because it has worst in class DPM. But when other stats are awsome DPM doesn't matter. It's kinda like a T20 at tier VIII
I wish that Wargaming would take the armor model that this tank has (strong turret, but with weak points you can at least hit) and apply it to the over powered heavily armored tanks in the game

Grinded out the CS LIS, not gonna bother with this one... might pick it up on the last day with whatever discount I accumulated from my usual play time.
The thing with balancing a tank with its DPM is that DPM often times doesnt matter unless you're fighting on an open, plane field. If you're on a city-map for example or just fight an enemy using covor, where the engagement is really stationary, like it often is these days, the DPM isnt that important. Because if you're in a position where you cant get rushed by the enemy, it doesnt matter if they can fire 2 or 4 times in the time that you are reloading cause you're not leaving cover before your've finished reloading anyway. So in that situation its always a 1 to 1 trade of shots thats always won by high alphadamage, good pen and armor. And this new tank has all of this. So its gonna be strong most of the time. Imagine a dream-scenario where you're inside this tank and you're playing in a platoon with an autoloader that has a high clip-potential. You're sitting there trying to hold enemys back with your armor and damage and if someone tries to rush you they get taken out the game by your friend.
So all in all its gonna be a strong one imo.
You forgot the true T8 Chinese Premium Medium, the Type 59. That tank does have pref. MM and is a really good T8 Premium Medium Tank.
Any tank that has a side skirt is a + from me. Just give side skirts to the crusader wg

QB has spent the last 2-3 weeks complaining about the awful dpm of the Italian heavies, so it’s really weird to see him in an apologist role for this tank. “The dpm is so bad that the enemies forget about you!” O.k., that’s just weird praise.
How about dropping Vert Stabs and use Turbo instead? It reload is slow anyway so you should have enough time to aim ;) I'd try that setup for sure
The launchers I think are ATGM tubes, but WG covered em up to not give people false ideas. I guess WG was inspired by the WZ-122 prototype from the 60s, that had ATGMs mounted on the turret

@@ridge9066 enjoy the BR compression and stupid BR changes. After the new BR changes a T20 will be able to face an IS-3. The T20 in war thunder doesn't have a 90mm like in WoT, only the 76mm. It also doesn't get APCR. The T26E4 will face Leopards now which have 400mm of HEATFS pen for those WoT players who don't know. Enjoy the stupid balancing tactic of increasing repair costs on tanks that are overperforming(which btw does nothing but lock ftp players out of said tank), then later increasing the BR but keeping the same stupidly high repair costs. The british 6.7 tanks that went up to 7.0 and will now be 7.3 for example. Hope you like Gaijin bending the knee to the "gErManY SufFeRs" crowd. They're making the German M48, which is better than all the other M48s, 6.7, while all the other M48s are 7.3. Almost forgot, enjoy the bugs that Gaijin takes years to fix, like the hole in the Centurion Mk 10's gun mantlet.
In short, you're running from a bad game to a BAD game. Take it from me. I'm still playing both for whatever reason
I think the key part is the Armor of this tank. Sure it's DPM is trash, but like you said, it's going to be Mid-long range, on a ridgeline, with a god tier turret... It's going to become a force to be reckoned with. And lower tiers, as well as same tier, will need to load the gold in order to deal with it. And even then, not all of them will be able to hurt it.

I like this tank allot. Kinda op I'd say. Yes the rof is bad but armour wise it's very tough compared to most other tier 8 mediums i have. Play it to it's strengths and it's a tank that rarely fails the player.

I guess the counter is to prioritize the autoloaders, retreat when needed, hold your fire as a "shell in being", and fight with team mates nearby -- don't try to lone ranger it in this tank.

I feel like this tank is pretty balanced. It is mobile but not super fast, has really good armor but with wakspots, awesome alpha and pen at cost of abysmal dpm and so on. WG did a good job. It is a shame that there are some tanks with no weaknesses.
Even though the dpm is absolute garbage, I'm REALLY exited to play this tank.

Play with fire extinguisher, not food. Play with high standard penetration tanks. I recommend the obj 277 line or a TD line. You can also play light tanks, focus on spotting and staying alive until the end of the battle, when you can flank and penetration is not that important. You can go watch taugrim on youtube, he's super good, and plays only with standard ammo.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but if the game is being played too fast and they want to slow it down, why not lower the dpm globally? What I mean by that is to take all the dpms in the game and lower them by some degree in order to slow down the game. A good example would be lowering the average dpm at tier 8 to 1.8k and the average dpm at tier 10 to 2.2k (these numbers are without gunramers, vents and the like). I got this idea from being a Rainbow Six Siege player and when Ubisoft realized that the game was being played far too crackhead like (brainlessness was being rewarded more than planning and methodical action) they did a global ADS (aim down sight) speed slow down for all gun types. This not only gave angled grips (an attachment that sped up ADS speed at the cost of recoil) a purpose, but slowed down the game a lot more. Dpm like this wouldn’t be a problem if the greatest dpm possible at each tier was lowered more.
Man that DPM is literally what happens to most tanks when they are ported to the Console version from PC.

I imagine low DPM high alpha tanks are going to be introduced with more frequency as a way to slow the pace of the game down a bit, by forcing the high DPM tanks to choose between saving their HP or possibly getting knocked out in 2 to 3 hits.
That's gonna super challenging because good players will work around that. Example: sure I can get slapped for 400 alpha, but if I can then put two or three shots into you for one of your shots, I can kill you faster. Result is the game actually gets faster because you have tanks that can kill their way through something vs a tank that can't. It's like Obj. 140 meets Jg pz E 100 syndrome, if you know what I mean

In fact it's very probable, given the skill gap between average players (like me) and good players. I know for a fact if I'm gonna get slapped for a quarter, a third ,or even half my hit points then I'm gonna hesitate and wait for an opening. I know that's not always the best response, but it's what I do in that situation. So if Wargaming can create that situation for more people more often, if they can create hesitation, the game should slow down a bit.
I think that dpm might just ruin it for me, I hate tanks with dpm that low... except the elc... thats a exception. Then again I love the rino... so maybe ill love this thing. also if a chimera can have 440 alpha and a 12 second reload how come this things reload is literally 1.5 seconds worse???
