I feel like I've seen Jim and Colin around for enough Best of the Worsts that they're no really the other guys anymore. I still think of Josh the Wizard as the "other guy".

Jim is laid-back, literally, lounging perpetually behind a gnomic smile that says "You'll like me even when you find out I got paid for _X-Men Origins: Wolverine."_ They're the ganache on the RLM Nanaimo bar
Strange Brew was VERY loosely based on Hamlet. It took place mainly at Elsinore Brewery (instead of Elsinore Castle), the uncle murdered the father and married the mother, the ghost of the father appears, there was a movie within a movie (Space Mutants instead of The Murder of Gonzago). Insanity also played a big part, too. There were many other similarities...

Just found this. Strange Brew is one of my favorite movies. My son and I watched it together when he was a teenager (he’s now 50) and laughed our heads off. One of our favorite lines”That’s a beauty, clerk (clark)”. We say it often. Great review!
I came expecting a simple review and got lots of trivia about Canadian culture I was absolutely unaware of. Super fascinating and think these two weirdos are great.
Not everyone in MN has that accent all the time, but it slips out on certain words. I've noticed I sometimes say "Mondee" instead of Monday, and I definitely say " ya" instead of yeah, little things like that, but it's pretty minimal since I live just south of the cities. In the metro areas, the accent is generally weaker, though I was recently at a hospital downtown and had a nurse who kept asking my family "You guys fyeeling okee over dere?" But yes, "The State of Hockey" is gradually overtaking "The Land of 10,000 Lakes" for state nickname.
I say we have more Jim and Collin collabs in the future. They have a bright energy, play well off each other, and clearly know what they're talking about. Oh and uh, are Jim and Collin replacing Half in the Bag?
I went to the theater to see this movie for my 13th birthday. Only in High School did I realize it was a Hamlet homage/send-up (guess I had to read it first). One of my all-time favorite guilty pleasure dumb comedies.
Yeah, I'm kind of surprised that neither one (or offscreen Josh or Jay) brought that up. I was waiting the entire time for someone to point out the Hamlet connections.
I heard about this film from a sketch on a Del the Funky Homosapien album and I've always been curious about it but not enough to watch it. You guys filled the gap, thanks.

Entitled "Strange Brew", it chronicles the heroic adventures of two latter day renaissance men, or, to use the correct 20th century terminology, hosers. We give it, 3 thumbs up.
Ok. This is one of my favorite re:View videos. Anyways, I LOVED this movie as a kid. First saw it as a rental video back in either 84 or 85. I saw the movie before they started airing reruns of SCTV on one of our local UHF stations here in the US. I'm surprised they didn't do another movie. Strange Brew has so much re-watch value for me. I've seen it like a bazillion times and it never gets old. Plus Lynne Griffin was adorable in this. They just don't make movies like this anymore.

I love how Bob and Doug are basically Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. I wonder if it influenced Tom Stoppard. It even has the play within a play within a play -- Shakespeare meta before meta was a thing.... And poison is a major plot device in the finale.
OMG! I watched SCTV as a kid...I'm from the states, too. I remember Ed Grimley, Count Floyd, and the rest.. After Laff-In reruns, THIS was my go-to comedy show. And I saw Strange Brew eaaaarly in the a.m. on TBS many years ago..
Fun fact: when aired in Canada this episode had 2 additional minutes of Jim and Collin drinking beer.

Viewing this from Canada i can verify this.
This episode was government mandated by the CBC in order for Red Letter Media to be available in Canada.
Filmocide - best comment so far.
I would have written "by the CRTC" but solid joke.
Tbh the rest of America considers the Midwest to be basically Canadians
They're literally Canadian versions of Mike and Jay. It's not even ironic.
something something broke new ground
I really want to see what the Canadian version of Rich Evans would be like! I would pay good money to see that!
The Canadian version of Rich Evans is Rob Ford.
I would be up for the challenge, but I probably not fat enough.
Which one's supposed to be Mike? They're both a lot like Jay, but where do people see Mike?
I like how this started out as a retrospective of Great White North and then slowly regressed into a real life reenactment with two drunk Canadians rambling about nothing.

Very observant of you. Hail, good sir. xD

I always liked Jim and Colin, but this video made me a fan of them. They have perfect chemistry.

Finally, a Jim-Colin standalone RLM Story. It's all about family.

Jim is on point
I was surprised. North Americans always get it wrong usually.
He has a Scottish surname.
yeah for real. Same with the scowl thats a proper haggis muncher right there
Snow Falling On Max Von Cedars.
Also the Scottish pizza accents were bang on.
It's called Mamma's pizza, on the Grassmarket in Edinburgh. He doesn't run it anymore it seems.

In a potential "Strange Brew" sequel; Ian Thomas (Dave's brother & quite the accomplished musician himself) must play a much more active role. In other words; Ian Thomas can portray a parole officer in the sequel.
Jim and Colin are their best guests, by far. I have a real soft spot for Jim in particular. He's so mild and awkward, it's great.
Jim’s funny as hell
Jim's the most butch RLM-o. Bearded giant who captains the paint crew for _Vikings,_ 5-time Emmy nominee. A calm, steep fjord of a man

Today I learned deep fried pizza is a thing. Please bring this miraculous invention to the great Scottish diaspora land of Canada
Southern Deep fat fried chicken is essentially Scottish, with Cajun spices added, if I remember correctly

Jim was born in Scotland iirc.
I feel like Jim had that Snow Falling on Cedars joke written especially for Jay, since no one else could have possibly found that funny.
I still don't get it a year later.
Jay, and me. :D
I think he mispronounced von Sydow the whole episode just for that joke
What was the joke?
I've never read or seen snow falling on cedars but it's still hilarious
Watching two canadians drinking beer talking about a movie with two canadians who drink beer and talk.
Perfect.
We've come full circle.

I love how Bob and Doug are basically Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. I wonder if it influenced Tom Stoppard. It even has the play within a play within a play -- Shakespeare meta before meta was a thing.... And poison is a major plot device in the finale.
Tobias Becker - They also get "killed" halfway through the story.
I know right?! HOW did they miss all the Hamlet references? The ghost, the gaslighting of Pamela (Hamlet), Elsinore friggin' CASTLE?!
Probably because Shakespeare is overrated garbage and Canadians tend to stay away from that.
"I gotta pee so bad I can taste it!"
these are the first funny Canadian duo since Terrance and Philip!
this movie was a huge part of my childhood, right up there with The Blues Brothers. love you canucks.
How could you not mention this is a remake of Hamlet?
No kidding! That's one of the best parts about it!
I came here for this. It's an absurd oversight.
Back in high school, I told my English teacher about this film since we were reading Macbeth that year, and it blew her mind.
These guys are so wholesome it hurts my brain. More please.
I see even without Mike, Star Trek comes in somehow
My dad used to rent this movie for me at the giant video. It's my favorite movie. So glad you reviewed this!
Jim was one the most hilarous guests. I hope he´s fine and can get back to the show soon.
Seeing a new RLM really does light up my day. Thank you, I needed the pick me up.
Im Scottish and those where really good ascents!
This was fucking beautiful. I need a two hour video of these two doing Scottish accents.
This was hilarious! From someone living in Scotland, your accents were spot-on :D
I so just rewatched this movie and loved it. I had blurry memories of seeing it in a hotel when I was like 6.
Jay just laughing in the background is the best part
This was a great one. Love these Re: Reviews that give a ton of background and context.
Being Scotlandish I have to say, that was some good accents you did there. 'Oan yerselves!
I am American and born in 91 and seen this 100s of times by 2000 and it was a staple of my household
Saw this in the theater...back in the say SC-TV was very popular with kids my age. That was in Pennsylvania.
OMG! I watched SCTV as a kid...I'm from the states, too. I remember Ed Grimley, Count Floyd, and the rest.. After Laff-In reruns, THIS was my go-to comedy show. And I saw Strange Brew eaaaarly in the a.m. on TBS many years ago..
These guys are the best
RLM knows how to pick visual effects artists. Based on their ability to host an amazingly fun ReView episode!
It's nice seeing Jim opening up more than usual.
When this movie came out, it became our go-to movie to farm quotes from with my friends and I. Glad to see it getting some attention.
