- Is a folding ebike something you've been thinking of getting for your camper van, trailer or RV? What are the pros and cons of a folding ebike? What, if anything, are you giving up or gaining by purchasing one? In this video I review the Engwe EP-2 Pro model mountain ebike and show you how these ebikes work and how they ride.

Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If your into being off-grid and boondocking, or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

I wanted to thank you for your e-bike reviews. By far you are my go to channel while I decide which bikes to get for me and my wife. Keep up the great reviews!!
Thanks, Mark. I intend to do a side-by-side comparison soon.
@@gonagain 17:00 glad you only live a block away! ;o)
Excellent review! I have this bike and I bought it because I am now 70 years old and have bad arthritis in both knees. It allows me to get back out there and enjoy the outdoors while getting some good peddling exercise. You are spot on with your review and this showed me that my results are similar to yours with this bike. I highly recommend this folding bike to anyone that wants to get into E-bikes at an affordable price. I bought mine for $799.00 with free shipping, they were running a Spring sale along with a $100.00 coupon at checkout.
Ebikes have allowed those with bad knees to get back on a bike and enjoy the outdoors again.
One of the better reviews I've seen, I'm seriously considering getting one even though I have not been on a bicycle for 40 years you have gave me a little more confidence thanks.
I hadn't ridden a bike in about 35 years. With my bad knees I thought that riding a bike was out of the question but the ebikes make it possible again.
Nice review Rick. You are going to need to open a bike store, lol. Be safe hope Linda is still doing well.
She's doing great and you should see her on video soon.
Another thorough review. I imagine your garage is full up of ebikes by now! Ha! Keep them coming. My ride is an Aventon Sinch folder which I enjoy but these are not light weight, even with battery removed. Going on 72 so weight can be an issue but great for hauling to camp site in back of pickup under camper top. Thanks, Rick, and hope Linda is making great progress healing up.
You're right, none of these are lightweight because of the battery and the motor being heavy on their own. And then a folding frame bike has to be extra strong because it hinges. This bike weighs 70lbs, in case I forgot to mention that.
You're quickly becoming the E-bike master with all your fancy smancy reviews.
Nice readable display on this one. The bell is pretty silly though, whoever decided on that one needs to have note in their file.😉
You are obviously not a girl. 😂🌸🌷🌺
a* note
I actually bought a better bell for this one. A bell is so much nicer than a horn when you are approaching people from behind.
Looks like an almost exact copy of Lectric's ebike. I have a Lectric bike, and it is great. The folding feature makes it easy to take along.
Or vice versa. This company is one of the older ones, but who knows, but f you need a folding ebike, nothing else will do.
seems like 10 of these companies are building these at the same factory.
@@gonagain I should have clarified that I was saying that I have a similar folding ebike and love it, and wanted people to know that they are a great take along to any adventure. It doesn't much matter on the brand.
Thanks for sharing Rick well done !
Excellent review Rick.
If you haven't already unlocked the top speed, you can do that in the menu and get about 28 mph. There is a RUclips video showing how to do it
Question?
I live in Clearwater Beach Florida Pinellas County. Looking to buy my first ebike. I set a budget of $ 5K top in with sales tax.
I'm looking to use for Beach traffic and ride in my general community. Store, and run errands. I came upon your channel by chance.
Thank you
For beach travel I'd prefer something with 4"x 26" get tires. Check out the Magicycle I reviewed: ruclips.net/video/HuFm8rDBEsM/видео.html
Just got one of These bikes. Good value. Welds are the worst. Think I could have done better. Wife wrecked it twice going around the block. Detailer problems since. Yet I really like this bike for the price. I have 26 miles on the bike only in lvl 1-3 during rides. Good work out for a 61 yr old at about 4-5 miles per ride. Price was $925. Hope to use it with our RV and "bug out" IF "GO BRANDON" screws us with Putin. Should show how it pulls a small trailer, "full of supplies", for those of us that are interested.
Hello Doug. You may need to have the derailer adjusted by a bike shop, or there are numerous YT videos on how to do it yourself (it's not hard). The welds on aluminum usually don't look as nice as on steel because they need to have more material applied in the process for strength in the joint. I looked the frame over very carefully and I think it's pretty tough.
Great review 👍
That is a very good review, you must have studied the manual before doing this review well done.
Another great Ebike review Rick! I like your details on the components and you don't baby the battery. The hill climb without peddle assist is a good test for all bikes. Can't wait for you and Linda to get back on the road again. Mahalo!
Hello Scott! Linda is ready to go again.
Can someone tell me how easy is it to fold and pick up i only need to do that in train
Thanks great information
Practically the ADO A20, is the control panel ''configurable?'' like the ADO
You can switch between trip and total miles, watts being used or battery percentage.
even at 60 i still prefer a peddle bike. better for me to get excersize.
@@murrayandru7527 yup you are right. for 1000 dollars i can peddle....
@@papatravels61 For a thousand bucks I'll walk.

Good to see you out and riding today. Just wondering? What is the life on the average ebike battery and what is the cost on battery replacement. I bet they are really expensive. Take care
They're not exactly cheap and, depending on the size, will range between $350 and $650. For a daily rider, the estimated battery life is 3-5 years. They are also repairable if you send it out to a battery shop.
@@gonagain what brand it is the battery lg. Panasonic. Or samsung???
I have this bike and mine will get up to 28 to 29mph on pa5 or throttle only on level surface. You always want to use pa when going up hill or you will quickly drain the battery. It is very easy to climb hills in pedal assist 5
I find I use less battery power up hills pedalling low gear with little blips of the throttle
Hi, be aware that the bike don't like a backpack full of groceries on the rear rack. I high centered at a stop & almost fell over. I had around 25 lbs. My Lectric XP 2. don't care. Both bikes are a joy to ride.
You're right and I suggest going to panniers to keep the weight low.
It's a lectric xp 2.0 with a bigger battery and motor for a couple hundred dollars more. Wich I think is well worth it, especially if you live in a hilly area. But the customer service is not as reputable. So as with all ebikes it's a gamble weather you get a lemon or not?
I don't worry about that too much because they are just bicycles after all, and the parts are readily available on the open market. Some of these companies are definitely better at customer service than others though.
Great review! .... Still lovin' the MajicCycle ✨ .... just sayin' ... 🙋🏻☕
Get a 11-28T freewheel it almost eliminates peddle run out.
That would definitely make a big difference.
Thanks for taking the time to fully review this bike and showing how the controls work. Great video
Boy, that folding e-bike would be a game changer if you need to conserve space (and I do) so will keep that one in mind. Yes, thanks for doing these reviews. Excellent job showing all of the details and how to's........ Happy riding! Ohhhh you finally got your donuts! Mmmmm
Seems like a good value and all-around good choice for running into town for supplies from camp. Under $1,000 today.
I’d probably go with a folding e-trike, were they not so crazy expensive! Nice review! Thanks!
👍
It is funny to see people "Riding" a E-bike and NOT pedaling
Good revue, and also if e-bikes weren't available my bike riding days would be over.
i dont like where the key goes to turn it on, so i went for a fat tyre bike with the battery behind the seat where the key enters the top left side of the battery, very easy access.
The seat looks comfortable for us old man. Need to keep my package safe.
Morning Rick, the Evil Knevil of E Bikes. lol, take care
Sounds like a pretty good deal and I have thought these would be good for us senior riders, I am 73, as it would encourage getting out to exercise as it appears it helps ypu go but at the same time gives you motivation to peddle and workout too
It is very helpful, Thank you
Seems like a very solid unit especially coming in under $1000. I do wish they could hide all the cables in the front a little better. I was hoping for a fresh donut review. LOL
The cables are exposed and not too good looking like that, but it's because of the need to be able to fold down the handlebars. I just found out that my favorite donut supply shop is for sale and I just hope the new buyer knows what they're doing!
Rick, I only have a Jackery 500 and a 100W Goal Zero Boulder Solar Panel to charge.
Would that work for charging?
Would you please give me an idea on the price
Hello Carolee, the Engwe EP2-Pro is currently selling for $1049.00
engwe-bikes.com/products/ep-2-pro-us
Your Jackery 500 and 100watt panel should suffice.
Thank you very much! I always appreciate
Your knowledge! 🤗
Spring loaded flip up and down center stand would be nice.
Rick, Are you selling that bike? 🤗 It would take me a couple month's to save for it.
How does it come? How would I get it here in the High So. Calif. Desert? 🤗
I'm sorry Carolee, this one went to my granddaughter and she loves it.
That's great!!! 🤗
Would you mind answering my other questions? Please! 🤗
Nice review Rick,
That looks like a nice little ebike.
JT
It'd be easy to hang 2 spare batteries on there if you needed a longer range.
The upgraded model can have 16Ah..definately worth the extra bucks
That's a good upgrade. I swapped out those handlebars to BMX style and it really improved the handling. There's a person who's making a riser that folds to accommodate that mod.
Thanks for the info...
I bought one and just assembled it. Their minimum height assessment is a bit off. I'm 5-4 and with the seat on the lowest setting, my toes barely touch the ground, and it makes the seat very uncomfortable. Standing flat-footed, I'm just a touch higher than the boy-bar/battery casing, making it difficult to dismount. I'm going to sell it and get a step-thru model.
The step-thru model makes getting on and off so much easier.
An update. I'm a 6ft, 330lb man and the seat/leg-reach didn't work on this bike. I found a 1" think layed back seat post + fat-seat and after trial and error discovered you need a 33.9mm shim to fit into the Engwe to reduce to whatever. 1" = 25.4mm. After this mod, I could sit OK and peddle and the bike WORKS!!! Even on pretty steep hills it works if I peddle just a little - gives the motor and extra umph. I got 4 miles with 2 bars left after really steep steep hills etc - so maybe 10 miles total... maybe more if I peddled!... pretty cool for a 330lb man and bike seems totally solid.
That's great Kenneth! I glad to hear that you were able to make it work for you.
Another Great Review Rick, Good Show. Take whatever time Neccessary but we look forward to a Side by Side comparison down the road. Especially now that there are many on the list as they keep on coming. Ever So Popular. (let me say, I see in the future 'Ricks Bike Shop' open for business) Just Kidding of course. Indeed, you Do the Best Reviews hands down. Thanks. 👊 🎯 👏👏👏👏👏
Hello Vinny! I'm planning on a video like that soon.
NICE, I paid that much for the E-bike I have 3 years ago, and it does not have the front shocks like this one has! ! Great DEAL!
You got one back when this was all starting!
Great down to earth review
If you don't mind me asking? How much do you weight? And great review! Really well done! Sorry if you did mention weight in review and I missed it.
Hello Luke. I try to keep it down to 180lbs and I'm 5'11". Be sure and check out the video I did recently about changing the handlebars. It really helped the handling.
Great review on this one. Where is the shifter for the pedal gears? A neighbor had a bike shifter that was automatic. Something like that would be good, maybe, with these bikes. A electric bike for someone that doesn't want to pedal and pedals that select the right gears when you do pedal, now that would be a good bike. LOL!
Hi Linda! Hope you are ready to hobble around some.
Most ebikes don't have multiple front sprockets, having just the gear stack on the rear hub. Linda says Hi back!
Putting the folding option on the side, which bike would you prefer ...The Ride1up Core 5 or this one?
The Core 5 is lighter and more designed for using around town. This Engwe is also capable of doing some trail riding and is heavier built.
Good review I didn’t get my husband an E bike that you had reviewed step through. Majiccycle he loves it he’s only got 9.6 miles on it but the weather around here in Ohio is starting to break and I can see him starting to put more miles we are looking for a good E bike helmet maybe a review on some of these I just ordered my big dog because I like Linda I’m short and I need something a little closer to the road! Do keep up the good work and I can’t wait to see some more videos with you and Linda out camping that’s also what we’re waiting on some good Fairweather!
The Himiway Big Dog should be a great ebike for you. I have their Escape and love it, except for the non-adjustable seat height (I built a spacer to raise my seat up). I've been shopping for a better helmet but haven't decided yet. They seem to go from affordable to high priced with nothing in the middle!
Just assembled mine! Not happy with packaging / instructions - Yikes! Agree it's very solid construction but glad you did the video on how to actually turn it on! Will follow up on operation once I get used to it.
Glad I was able to help you, Kenneth. Have fun riding!
What is the slowest you can go up hill. I'm afraid like Linda.
You could walk it up hill really slow.
nice, but not a fan of folding bikes. But that is a very good price! thank you. ALL stay safe! Linda up and running yet?
Hello Dave, Linda is doing great, and you should start seeing her again very soon.
Hey, I've been watching your videos I'm about your age and want to use an ebike in about the same manner you've been. Of the bikes which is the best fit.
I mainly use mine on trails near where I live, but I also use it to run errands around town. While this bike is great for RVs and other times when you need a folder, if you use a bike like I do then you may want to look at a 4"x26" tire fat bike like the Magicycle that I reviewed recently. I'm 5'11" and it fits me fine.
Very insightful video. Thanks for sharing it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This bike is almost identical to mine and when it's folded, it fits in the back of my Jeep Cherokee with room to spare. I am very happy with it. Nice video Rick!
Thank you, Jarel.
Thanks for the thorough reviews of various ebikes! We still have ice on the lake here, and it was 14 degrees this morning in Clare Michigan.
I feel for you. It's 70 degrees here today and is supposed to snow tomorrow. Good ol' Spring!
Hi rick that bike looks a lot like lectric brand made bike 4 by 20 tires the price was the same what i bought
There are some differences, like a bigger 750watt motor and a larger battery, but as long as it gets you to where you're going that's all that matters.
Nice review, Rick. For me, they're cost prohibitive.
Hello Mona. They're getting pretty common so, in the future, keep your eyes out for a used one.
Like the review still deciding. Did ya save any donuts? Lol
It's all I can do to get the bag home without eating them all!
How long does it take to recharge the battery if out camping for a while?
Of course, that depends on how low the battery is, but if it's totally drained it would take about 6 hours.
It’s called the rake the slope of the front fork☮️
Thanks, Bryce.
Well DONE!!!! AND DONUTS :) Score!!! I really like this as the wheels are a definite upgrade to the Lectric:) May have to order it... THNAKS MUCH AND ALL THE BEST! Cheers! :)
Hi Marty. It also has the bigger 750-watt motor and a bigger battery.
@@gonagain Thanks again and for letting me know :) Hope its still on sale in APril...
👍👍👍👍👍
THANKS MUCH AGAIN! Was still on sale 1st of APril, so I ordered with new month / bill cycle! :) Hope I fit it as I am only 5'6" :) ALL THE BEST and look forward to getting it! Cheers!
You should fit it just fine, Marty. My granddaughter rode it and she's about 5' 3" and that was about the limit on the low end.
@@gonagain THANKS MUCH! Good to know :) ALL THE BEST !
Recieved my bikes damaged in mail. Boxes looked like hell. Charger was damaged on the black one. Tryed to work with engwe and only willing to give 20 for damage to fenders, wheels, and derailer cages. Not willing to give a good discount and offered return but 25% stocking fee. Tryed to dispute on card and failed. Please don't buy from this company.
Shipping damage should be covered by the shipping company.
@@gonagain unfortunately they can't cover and engwe is not responding. I don't know what to do. I'm just letting everybody know not to work with engwe.
I always thought the folders just made the riders look so silly.
With the extended seat and handlebars, a full sized person rather resembles a circus bear on a bicycle.
The bar height of the handlebars and the small wheels make for a less comfortable ride.
They are handy and easier to keep out of public view when stored.
I know the bikes with those T type handlebars are very awkward and uncomfortable.
It does make the steering more sensitive, but you get used to it.
I don't under stand why you couldn't articulate the handle bar stem someplace , so you could adjust the angle maybe 10 degrees and lock it down..
With the 4 inch tire at low psi the ride is nice and smooth. I can put 2 of these folding bike in a car.
Nice bike Nice review 👍
Thank you, Teresa, we hope you're doing well.
@@gonagain Michigan don't want to give up winter lol.. Doing good thanks for asking. Sure enjoy you 2 keep up the good videos ❤
Since I plan to ride on streets, I ordered a car backup camera to mount on rear fender/frame with a 4.3 monitor on handlebar. It may require a separate battery supply if I can't find a way to get 12volts from the bike battery. But we shall see. I am an electronic tech.
It would be great if you could take Linda camping again I am sure she would like it as well after being laid up for so long. I think that one would be a bit to small for me but it is cool and doesn't take up a lot of space. Take care and stay safe
Hello Den! We're getting the trailer out again very soon.
