JR West plans to phase out service on the whole Sankō Line probably in mid September 2017. However, things could change if they could figure out how to run tourist trains on this line during the spring and fall.
i sincerely hope this is not the case - Japan Rail needs to take a lesson from the fools who decimated our railways back in the early 60's. Mothball or reduce service but NEVER close. Re building would be astronomically expensive, and railways will always be needed, even if it seems not to be the case in the present.

この路線は、単線区間で待避設備が少ないため、江津や口羽で運転間隔調整を行って運転しております。日本では利用者の少ない路線はこのような光景がよく見られます。
