If you see an interview with Christian Bale or Daniel Day-Lewis, both fine actors, they come off as 'themselves'--actors who turn a character on or off. Jeff Goldblum seems like he is just someone loving every minute of life. Occasionally someone tells him what to say and where to look, but otherwise, it's just him. I don't know if he still does, but he was doing regular piano-bar gigs where he would play, sing, and tell stories for people and just generally 'work the room'. At his level, he doesn't need the money, and performing like that would be exhausting if you didn't genuinely enjoy it. If it's all just 'acting', then he's the finest actor that ever lived.

Also, the only way conan could have aired any of the footage of the segments of him is if he consented to it legally. There is also one segment of them, I can't remember which, where conan goes to his office with a camera crew, and conan walks in first and Jordan greets him really enthusiastically... don't remember exactly what he said but it was like "Hey how are ya???", really chirpy, but then he sees the camera come in after and immediately switches into character. Don't get me wrong, I think Jordan is pretty accurately portrayed in interests and character, he just amplifies it a lot when the camera is on. But he's not a bad worker or anything like that.
I know! I wish they released the full video for these, like the Always Sunny pod started doing. Especially now that they have the nice camera set-up and dope new studio.
the problem may be that he breaks character: a) it is easier to keep in character for 10 minutes. but also b): even if schlansky is real 100% of the time, 1h of schlansky may be less funny than a well curated 10 minutes of schlansky.

I personally think the old remotes were probably like 80% real, like the one where he comes in late. I think the Italian restaurant remote was 100% real. It seems to me like he only started putting on extra layers of “Jordan” once that remote where he comes in late blew up. But I don’t actually know him so idk
In the Oxford interview, Conan said jordan is really 100% real on all remotes. He does said that maybe jordan adds a "10%" to the character to make the character,but everything is real.

Carson, Letterman and Conan are the big 3 IMO, but Conan has also kind of transcended the genre in a way the other 2 did not. But both Carson and Letterman were very culturally influential (particularly in the USA/Canada), though in different ways. Carson obv was dominant and had the largest regular audience, while Letterman was insanely innovative and influential to comedians and popular culture.
