    3 people from the days when a star was someone who had great talent, not just someone who went into a house for 10 weeks with a bunch of other nobodies and made their reputation by behaving badly. They were marvellous and I could listen to them all day.

    I'd forgotten how funny Beryl Reid was.
    And I could listen to Alan Whicker talk for hours.

    Great memories from all three - including the host, Denis. Beryl often played a lot of battleaxes in her career, but here as herself she is rather an attractive, witty, polite middle aged lady. Thanks for uploading and reminding us what true TV and stage stars were.

    Lovely, a quiet chat with diverse friends. Nice the way they start asking each other questions it's more like a dinner conversation than an interview show.
    We should have stuff like this on the BBC today instead of the junk that they pass off for TV these days.

    Watching that interview I think that was the best I've ever seen. You couldn't get any more diverse set of people than Alan Whicker and Beryl/Frankie. They all seemed totally relaxed, like a quiet evening with friends

    I feel so privileged to have grown up during the days when these great entertainers /actors/comedians were regulars on TV and film. These were real stars. Real celebrities. Real talents. Not just faces on the TV from nowhere, as it is nowadays. I especially love watching Frankie Howerd. He never failed/fails to make me laugh. What a comic genius.

    the runaway bus is notable for two reasons one is its margaret rutherfords only part as a villainess! the other was despite its tiny budget at the end it underran by 7 minutes and would not be accepted by the cinemas as a first feature but rather a b picture support which would drastically effect the profits as it could sit around for years waiting to be teamed with a big movie or not shown at all!the profits on the b picture were miniscule also. no problem said frank ill use the telephone box.he then still on the foggy set went into a phone box and ad libbed a hysterically funny phone call which ma de up the missing minutes and made it a feature presentation. oddly now for ad breaks and time spot the scene that saved the film was often cut f to fit the slot so it isnt always seen when it pops up on tv

    Frankie Howerd | Beryl Reid | Denis Norden | Alan Whicker | Looks Familiar | 1978 1122am 16.5.23 is there a place for such light televisual programming wherein stars of stage and screen come into chat about their formative years etc etc etc...? probably. though hollywood eggs probably would scupper that kindda caper... do we have the talent to chat to? yes, we do. i like beryl reid for other reasons - though she did star in that horror film... which featured in a comic strip in a horror comic - of all publications - about some deformed beast imprisoned in the cellar or was it the attic? i mean... kids who cant find work or cant be arsed going into college would enjoy this kindds stuff? hmmmmmm... probably not... but we would.

    • @palmereldritch7777
      @palmereldritch7777 3 года назад +4

      @@rickykilby4672 Actually sexuality makes for great comedians. It's high time panicky straights started realizing : being gay, lesbian, intersex, queer comes with certain advantages too.
      Time, people stopped thinking of it in terms of a handicap-an unfortunate defect. You could and should- in general - treat everybody equal. But just as in racism, there are plenty areas where Africans, Asians, LGBTQI people beat their square counterparts fair and square. I'd call it good genes and upbringing.
      And yeah, some straight people can be good artists as well, they just have to work a little harder at it.
