Another fascinating video - for which, much thanks - contrasting what fell to be abandoned with what was chosen to be retained (even if it needed to be haphazardly shored up somewhat). Given the still sturdy and spacious nature of the fabric of the abandoned church, it makes me wonder why these iconoclasts - for that is essentially what they were - shied away from simply diverting the building's use into more profane secular uses. Just think of how commonly the Bolsheviks in the USSR made village churches into barns, storage spaces and stables - after of course looting them of their bells, icons and furnishings.. Nearer home, I believe that it was not unknown for continental European countries like the Netherlands to requisition "surplus" ecclesiastical buildings as civic properties for use as schools, market venues and similar municipal spaces and the like - after, of course, smashing all blasphemous imagery and whitewashing over any "papistical" artwork. (Nearer to home, think of St Andrew's Hall in Norwich and its modern day laicisation. Hah, and to think of me once singing there as a CNS schoolboy choir member circa 1966!)

@@QuietlyExploring No problem. YT doesn't even tell people that they are shadowbanned or respond to requests for review or clarification. Their terms of use ostensibly have specific procedures or sanctions for "hateful" or "abusive" [as they of course YT judges things] but shadowbanning is outside those rules - and flatly denied in many cases. It's just a facet of the social media censorship war that increasingly gets played out more publicly on the big players such as Facebook and Twitter (dreadful, divisive and poisonous platforms, in my view). In my case, the timeline suggests to me that a well-known German military historian vlogger took exception to a comment which (after rebutting - using Western media articles - factual inaccuracies about the success/failure of the current Western sanctions war on Russia, concluded that he shouldstick to history and not get involved in contemporary politics. He probably complained to YT and - as there was no rules breach to use as a reason to ban or suspend me just settled on the expedient of administratively bannin me making any public comments at all. Job done; unpopular public dissent covered up. It could just as easily have been triggered by non-establishment but none "criminal" views voiced about gender, LGTQ, race, Covid lockdown and vaccines etc., etc....
Still, the pretense and illicit nature of the ban still allows me the pleasure of viewing your (and others') comments, and giving a helpful thumbs-up approval for the YT algorithm count for your channel. And on the bright side it removes an incentive to initiate or contribute needlessly to online spats, catfighting or posturing with others! When I comment, it is intended for the eyes of the YT creator alone, so my remarks had better be relevant, honest and constructive, as if looking in your eyes directly in a conversation between adults. Don't bother with raising the matter with YT please - they will just deny it and may mark you down as an undesirable troublemaker. Wait until you have 1/2 million subscribers before daring to challenge the infotech Lords of the Universe LOL!!! Regards, Brian.

Yes, I don't understand things fully. Apparently a comment I make can be seen by me and you (as original content creator to whom I'm responding) but not the generality of thread viewers - 'cos I'm "cancelled" thereby, right? Incidentally, my comments used to appear under my specified Google moniker "Brian Place" but I see that by default this preference of mine (per my Home Google settings) no longer shows up but is replaced [retrospectively it seems] by my Google account identifier - more intimidation, I guess. I wasn't ashamed to give my name out upfront. Who cares? I'm done with initiating comments - too much bother explaining things. Keep well
