On my to-learn-list: wave dashing dash dancing shield dropping b reversing baby dashing pivoting what have I gotten myself into I just wanted to play a game dude
Brother this guide is nuts. So helpful. Just an Italian chef out here getting cooked but slowly learning how to cook thanks to this guide. Thanks a ton!
Seeing the crazy shit you do like it's another day makes me see how little I know about this game. I played online only a few days, and I hated it, lost to everyone and their mother (even the worst players). But seeing this motivates me to learn shit I had no idea existed.
This is such a goated guide. Don't even have interest in maining the elephant, but I'll likely pick him up and mess around with him now that I know a bit more about how to play him. Also sending this to a friend who's been struggling learning Loxodont. Something I don't think you mentioned (sorry if I missed it), you can use your no charge down-b at any charge level by pressing shield just after down-b. I believe this only uses one charge, so you can preserve your charges for later use.
Minor correction: Loxodont's forward throw actually isn't reactable, only his down throw is. The way Loxodont's forward throw works is it's actually two hits, a toss and a slash. The slash has a sweet spot that's only hit if you DI the toss outwards, but otherwise the slash hits the sour spot which is far weaker. The slash itself has quite a bit of startup, but the toss doesn't and that's the part that matters for the DI mixup. Literally the only thing keeping the mix from working is the fact that down throw has 38(!) frames of startup. So people can just DI in (which is also the correct DI for up throw) to avoid the forward throw sweet spot and then switch to DI away if they see down throw starting. What's interesting to note here is that this actually means we do have a throw 50/50 against some of the cast, but we have to get the grab facing away from the ledge. The correct DI for up throw is in, but that will make back throw kill stupid early. On the other hand, the correct DI for back throw is up, but that make up throw back air sweet spot super easy to hit on non-floaties. Still not ideal since getting a grab facing away from ledge is far more niche, but it's good to keep in mind. There are a ton of other niche throw combos and situations that Lox can find himself in, and against fastfallers there a ton of room for optimization there. An especially silly example is that normally at around 80%+ Clairen can hard DI in our up throw and deny us the back air. However, you can react to that and hit a dash forward ftilt which combos into either utilt or dtilt. The funny part is that if you hit that from the center of a small stage then they'll end up over the ledge when you hit the ftilt, so the dtilt will spike and kill. I've never hit it in a game because most people don't know how to DI Lox's throws yet, but in theory it's all true. As for flaoties, you have a different option: Suffer. Against Fleet we get nothing on any of our throws if they DI them properly other than maybe a up air at very specific percents. It's miserable, and so against Fleet specifically we shouldn't be fishing for grabs nearly as much as against characters like Clairen and Zetter. DAN! Reduce the startup on Loxodont's down throw and my life is yours!
