A Texas-based singer/songwriter known for his wide-ranging fusion of pop, rock, folk, electronic, bluegrass, and hip-hop, David Crowder rose to success in the early 2000s as the leader of the church music group The David Crowder*Band. Over the next decade, the band racked up numerous Dove Awards for their inspirational rock sound, releasing popular albums like Illuminate (2003), Remedy (2007), and Give Us Rest (2012). Rebranding in 2012, simply as Crowder, the singer launched an equally successful, though more stylistically varied, solo career with albums like 2014’s Neon Steeple, 2016’s American Prodigal, and 2018’s I Know A Ghost.

Last week I slept under the stars in Myanmar at our denomination's new ministry center that teaches farming, gives away eyeglasses and teaches about God to the rural people of Myanmar, and this was the song that I woke as my alarm as the sun rose.
I will never listen to this song the same way again.
I was asked by a friend's widow to pick out music for the memorial service. She wanted happy, upbeat songs. I ended up choosing several from the Neon Steeple album, including My Beloved. If you listen to the album with that in mind, you have to wonder if Crowder lost someone close to him and wrote most of this album to get out of the funk.

I love Crowder's music, but this is the first time hearing this song. Found it from watching a movie called 23 Blast, I have been wanting to see the movie for a while and I finally found it on Amazon Prime.

Your song “My Beloved” reads “there’s a sun coming up in my soul” I worship the Son, and the word sun in the song seems to add confusion to who or what we are united in worshiping. Would you be willing to expound on your thinking for the choice of words here.

when he said "sun" he meant that he was seeing hope and was joyful. and I think it was kinda a pun too, because sun could be a word play of son, as in Jesus.
