I was rebuilding the entire drivetrain of my bike and had to completely rebuild the left shifter. Had quite a hard time putting back the high lever spring, just like you. Thanks for the great video, it really helped a lot.
Hi, have any ideas how to extract a brake lever? Wanna spice up my old bike design and paint the shifter (right and the only one) brake lever red cus you know, if only left brake lever will be red and the other black that'll be bit too atrocious for an unprepared witness :D
My EF50 had been struggling to shift into 3 for a while. Following your video, I took the cover off and sprayed some WD40 on the sticky pawl (which you highlighted at 5:55), and now it's shifting perfectly again. Thanks so much!
I had the same issue after trying over and over again to go past three, and I broke shifter down multiple times, and played with the spring around the pawl, in the end a little wd40 on the pawl and it was working like new (I know don't judge, I didn't have any thing else and the bike is a spare bike). But great video as it got me in the right direction.
That tip about the grease just saved me tearing down the shifter or paying the guys at the local bike store to do something they already charged me for. Many thanks
I can't thank you enough man! Your video was a great guide. I have a set of st-ef500 and the nut on the lower side of the left shifter got itself unlocked from the tabs and made a mess... Different shifter but same principles with slightly different parts.
Thank you THANK YOU! This video got me out of trouble when I took my Shimano ST-EF500-L apart, but couldn't put it back together. Fortunately that model is nearly identical mechanically
Hey Joey, Hi from the UK. An hour ago I had a shifter which I thought was ready for the scrap heap, disappointing as it is a brand new bike. I watched your video, step by step and rebuilt the shifter (including relocating the tricky springs) and it's as good as new now. Thanks for posting!
This was extremely helpful. My shifter was broken and it was just that little black clip on the upper side on the pin. Such as small piece that stops vertical movement on the smaller moving piece bellow. Thanks!
Thanks for the guide. I had a similar model (ST-EF500, but probably I fake chinese model). Without it, I would have had trouble in understanding the mechanics of this shifter. In the end, in my model the space for the high gears lever is even smaller so I couldn't really use your improved method, but it still helped me to understand the mechanic of this part. Really useful. I lost the count of the hours and frustration spent for this task :D Some months ago, I reassembled a SRAM shifter following another guide, but it was much easier, things were lesser cramped up (it was a Sram X3/X3 right shifter I believe). In these Shimanos, the real problem are springs: the space to work with them is really really tight, and even with a curved nose plyier, it's not easy to grab them. Thanks again.
Hi Joey from Germany. I have exactly the same problem yoe remarced at the beginning. From 2nd to 3rd gear is no grip. I ordered a new st ef 51 and I had the same problem with the first try after built it on my bike.🤨🤔🙄 Do you know the better alternativ Shiftingsystem than the 51? May be this 50 you show your work here? I would appreciate any clue. Greets! Olli
I really enjoyed your video, you are very easy to understand. My only complaint is about the lighting. It is hard to see detail because of the shadows. Still a very good presentation.
For this tricky part take some thin aluminium wire and then place in the spring u want to stretch it will become easy leave it when spring comes into hole
Hi, huge thank you for the rebuild vid from Russia (those fkers can't just ban RUclips entirely do they, one day RosComControl even banned their OWN website lol) :D Have any ideas how to extract a brake lever? Really wanna spice up my old bike design and paint the shifter (right and the only one) red cus you know, if only left brake lever will be red and the other black that'll be bit too atrocious for an unprepared witness :D
This saved me a lot of work and tears! They don't make these things today, so it was important to get the old one working! Humble thanks to you!
You're welcome! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!
Thank you very much for the excellent explanation. The detailed step-by-step helped me assemble the equipment that was loose.

Super helpful! It was the pawl on the shifter lever. Tried the hot water like you said and it works like a dream now. Thanks a lot!

Helpful video, thanks! Mine just needed old grease broken down to free up parts, but seeing your shifter taken apart was helpful.
You're welcome!
You're remarkeble! Shifter fixed within 30 sec! All the way from the Netherlands 🙏
Super helpful, nice job. I used steel cable from my bike to catch and place the spring.
Joey youve saved me $63 with this video! Youre a legend subscribing!
Awesome!

Thx for the video. Really helped me to re assemble parts back together. Still took me hours to figure correct start position for each part.
Glad it helped!

Can you take the spring in the brake lever?
Thanks bro, it's so helpful for me ❤
Hey man,, is there any way from which we can remove the brake lever from that thing
You can cut it off with a hacksaw, but 10-15$ will get you a much better lever without the extra work.
I really enjoyed your video, you are very easy to understand. My only complaint is about the lighting. It is hard to see detail because of the shadows. Still a very good presentation.
Noted! Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback!
WHEN I TRY TO SHIFT 3 IT NOT MOVING BUT AFTER RELESING CABLE ITS WORKING IS IT DERALIUR PRBM?
Were on the same problem, the main gear cant hook at the final shift. But when you disconnect the wires the shifting is good.

Que parte? Dame un momento específico en el video. Haré un video separado sobre ese proceso específico.
