Yeah, it's a beauty. The dial speaks for itself. Love the date window border and the smallish but prominent GMT hand. The whole thing is so balanced and tastefully done. Thanks for the review!
You really need to see this watch in person. Video and pictures can’t capture all the beauty of this watch. The dial is spectacular. Having said that, the videography in this video is amazing!! thnx Bruce
Great video. I've had my SBGJ249 since November and agree ... hidden gem. It's an amazing dial and I find it's much more subtle in the metal than what you see posted online. I was scared off by the thickness but it wears much thinner as you mentioned. Personally, I took the bracelet off and have been really enjoying wearing it on leather straps. Suprisingly has lot of flexibility. Enjoy it!
Hello ! Yes You are very right about this Watch !! Just tried it in London 2 days ago and it's an amazing piece !! This dial is a pure gem !! So Nice !! And x100 more in real than on picture or on a video !! I will buy it for sure !! Kind regards
About the half links : they are actually 2/3 links. 2 "half links" is slightly larger than a regular full link. Play around with both of them and you should have the same flexibility you'd get with three micro adjusts! Obviously not as convenient, for hot days or quick adjustments, but it's should be able to work for all wrists.
Hi Bruce, great video. I found that taking out a full link or replacing it with 2 half links or something of that combination helps with getting a great fit.
The bent second hand looks like a fishing rod. Very clever. Though I would imagine domed cases should bend it so it doesn’t touch the curved edges of the crystal.
Gorgeous watch! I've been going back and forth between the white birch and the sbgm221. Totally different looks but beautiful watches. Then I see this review, now this one is topping my list! I do have a question regarding the white birch your father has. Do you know if there were different variants of it? I've seen some huge differences with the dial in reviews. More detail and texture on some and less on others. Haven't had one in hand yet. AD gets one in next week so I'll be there to look at , can't buy as it's spoken for but can see it person. Enjoy the reviews you do! Cheers
GS first released the hi beat white birch. It has a very noticeable deep dial texture that reads with a hint of silver. Later they released a spring drive version that has a brighter dial that has less texture to it. Very subtle difference. I prefer the dial on the hi beat
Well the water resistance factor is nearly a hundred feet and who's really going to take this beautiful piece into the deep anyways, at least it's got some decent resistance to say the least. Anyone who has this piece has likely another option for such an occasion. Such a beautiful design and the dial is so stunning. Great review...!!!
Hi Bruce Eine Frage.
This is a great one. Nicer than the white birch imo. I have the sbga415 and I suffer the same frustration with the bracelet fit. Gs need to add a system like G.O have.
The Bracelets are tricky. Maybe i’m nuts…but it seems that the 1/2 links are more like “.6/.65” links. I’ve found that swapping both “half” links for a full link snugs it up a bit.
I love GS but they really gotta fix the bracelet. I got a GS with that same bracelet and it's loose. Either loose or really tight :'( still love it though.
the 3bar water resistance doesnt bother you? I like to buy all my watches as daily drivers, so I can use them all the time. This is what kept me from pulling the trigger yesterday. Now I will probably go for the new white birch with the new spring drive movement. I really want a GS in my collection :D
Nice dial, even if i prefer when the indices are on the outside, just like the peacock that I love. A bit thick as well, but amzaing dial and build quality as usual.
GS always makes a watch with so much promise and then has too many deal breakers for me. I look forward to the day that they nail the size, proportions, thickness and bracelet. The bracelet needs to taper and have micro adjustments in 2023.
I don't understand how GS can continue to blatantly ignore their customers' pleas for better bracelets and clasps. For me, amazing dial-work is not enough to distract from a lackluster bracelet and lack of microadjust. The bracelet is the interface between you and your watch. If I'm spending thousands of dollars on a watch, I expect it to have a perfect fit.
I own its sibling, the green dial SBGJ251 and had the exact same problem with the bracelet. I took it off and put it on a leather strap from Delugs and it is more comfortable and looks phenomenal. At this price point though, it is a little disappointing that GS has not yet made a more sophisticated bracelet. Despite the beautiful dial, I suspect that over time, many bracelet guys will grow tired of the poor fit and wind up selling these.

This watch looks like it is so smooth to the touch that it gives me shivers.
The opening was perfect with the water.
I just purchased on my trip to Japan. I also purchased a blue crocodile strap and I gotta say WOW. I think it looks AMAZING in the strap.

Thanks BW. Long time fan of your channel, appreciate your thoughts.
I've been looking at a new GS for a while. The SLGA009. I see Brent L Miller has that in stock. May go take a look. Great video as always.
Are you coming to the meet up on the 13th?
@@BruceWilliams I wish I could. I actually live in Japan, but I am back in Ohio to visit family. I will likely be back home when the meet up happens.
@@RocasThePenguin my wife grew up in Columbus. Love that area of the country

Thank you for non Omega/Swatch content!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
lol! I may film a video on that too.
This watch is so amazing and the price is incredible.
Buying a gmt for my boyfriend. Is this better than the black bay gmt? Thoughts on which is a better gift for anniversary?

I love Grand Seiko.
I have one, spring drive and would easily add a couple more as time goes buy.
Totally gorgeous GS

Beautiful watch
I found one of these in Japan 3 weeks ago brand new for 5512, dang!
That's a great one! Not sure if I would go for a high beat, but the rest is fabulous.
So nice!
This was on my purchase list till you said 30 meters water resistance. Broke my heart for sure
Perfect franken watch would be: GS dial and finishing, JLC movement, Rolex 39 mm Oyster case and bracelet.

It is 10 bar last time I saw this in store
@@spawndwalk I heard it from the flagship store. On their website, it is not specified. Though it is possible that the staff could be misinformed.

Shame about the lack of strap adjustment!

You will always find a fault no matter what, your that type
@@bdegrds there are many brands that already nail this. I'm not handing 10k or more for something that I'm not satisfied by that is a nice to have.
In certain light, it's hard to read the time with that dial. Plus, Grand Seiko still hasn't figured out how to include an adjustable clasp.

Grand Seiko: grand in all things, except bracelet clasps (and micro adjust). Their Achilles’ heel.
I never get why Grand Seiko are so tall, as you say, no water resistance to speak of! Puts me off them I’m afraid
All in all the same GS affair.

It looks gorgeous in person
