City Burials is available on CD, deluxe mediabook CD with bonus tracks, black and coloured vinyl LPs with bonus track, and digitally
Katatonia present their next single and video for “Behind The Blood”.
Video directed by Ash Pears (www.ashtv.co.uk)
This track is one of the highlights from new album 'City Burials', bursting into life with a trademark screaming guitar solo before dropping into an upbeat distinctive and hugely memorable Katatonia chorus.
Vocalist Jonas Renkse states “’Behind the Blood’ is a celebration of the heavy metal music that we all grew up with, modified to fit the Katatonia universe. Whilst lyrically it is telling the tale of dark revelry, to awaken the blood with the sound and taste of thunder.”
“Behind the Blood” has all the hallmarks of becoming a new classic.

QUARANTINE IS NO LONGER BORING WHEN THERES NEW KATATONIA
But i rather was going to see them live this weekend.....
From where you came from? Hope you're going to stay well.
Me too. I am from Spain. I am in quarantine for possible contagion, but I don't feel symptoms. Fortunately we have electricity and internet. The world catastrophe could be terrible in that situation. Musically very different. Some growls at first would look great on this song.
I hope you all stay safe and enjoy this new music like I will.
They are quarantining us until they prepare the world for the new economic system who will make us more slaves
Katatonia is the best metal band on the planet. I'm now in my 50s, been listening to metal since the age of 16. Katatonia's music changed my life and it followed me through the best and worst of times. Please, please if you ever come to Asia, stop over in Bangkok.
Could u recommend me some great songs by them?
I'm a huge Anathema fan and i hear Katatonia's name a lot in the comment section
@@staystrongjoseph Leathen, Old Heart Falls, Serein, July, My Twin, Leaders, Untrodden, Lacquer, Dead Letters, The Winter Of Our Passing, Day, Forsaker, Idle Blood, In The White, Buildings, Shifts, Decima, Evidence, The One You're Looking For Is Not Here, These are some of my favourites, hope you'll enjoy this band as much as I do
Happy listening!
@@silvera979 thank you!!!!!
Have you heard of a band called The Ocean?
@@sylbaster2658 absolutely, yes. Very good band too.
No matter what variations or modernizations you make to your sound, Katatonia will always sound like katatonia.
True!
Lyrics
Behind The Blood"
Rivers rush, behind the blood
The cinder skies come alive with this drop of sunset
How far can we go? Along the elusive flood
I've been waiting all of my life to be with you
Such a pale spark
Such a long wait before you would let me know
Before you would bless me with your thunder
The ground shakes
It carries the weight of the letting go
I can feel you tear me asunder, whoa!
My love, I can feel you push and give way to drowning
I can feel you pierce my heart
Hammers thrust within the cells
You're a torch to the temple of depression
Saturnalian curse, these are my heaving words
I will do it all over again to be with you
Motionless now
Venin is in the blood
You're a preacher
Without a cross
Give me some trouble
Get me some trouble in
I can't wait
I can't wait again
I can't wait again, no!
Such a pale spark
Such a long wait before you would let me know
Before you would bless me with your thunder
The ground shakes
It carries the weight of the letting go
I can feel you tear me asunder, whoa!
My love, I can feel you push and give way to drowning
I can feel you pierce my heart
Thanks! 🙏🏻
Someone had a idea of what this lyrics means?
@@wehrwolflied8148 To me it may interpreted as the longing to meet a lover again or to have another dose of a drug. The video ironically captures this journey in the way of a long car ride...
@@bd_exp Yeah, venin is venom in french
Wow, this is gonna be one killer album! Listening has to be done when One has time to decipher the lyrics‐---beautiful!
Jonas has not sounded this dynamic in years
Jonas has my favorite voice in all of metal. He sounds like an ethereal being.
You mighta been missing out, bud!!! Hes ALWAYS had a powerful, haunting voice! But I agree that this is something special within katatonia! The new album can not come sooner!
They haven't had a record out in "some" years so I guess your comment is technically accurate.
Any other songs of theirs like this that arent depressing af?
@@Hans_Lex In short, no.
Still absolutely blown away by how good this song is
Me too! And yet, every friend I've played this for has had nothing positive to say... and they're all fans of metal in various forms. What are we hearing that some just don't?
@@mlqvist lots of people are so accustomed to easy and catchy songs, that when you suggest them a song that's just a little more complex than what they're accustomed to they lose focus and get bored. This is what always happen to me when I suggest songs to friends at least.
I Love Katatonia ❤️
I'm playing this on my balcony right now
#StaySafe
Thank you Katatonia ❤️
Katatonia... loved you for years. So visceral. So eternal.
Maybe one of the best songs ever. At least for me. It's so perfectly rounded and it sounds nothing like Katatonia, yet it sounds like them at the same time. Can't believe how good this song is.
Why does this sound nothing like Katatonia but exactly like Katatonia?
Some parts sound like early Queensryche, bit of Priest as well.
@@fluffygab I'm more inclined to say some of the riffs sound more like Ratt or Dokken. Specifically off the top of my head, Dokken's "In My Dreams".
Remember when they had guitar solos? Me neither.
or how
I love it. It feels fresh. I'm excited for the new album. Katatonia continue to innovate.
So stoked to have acted in this. Thanks for having me Katatonia, it's fire. 💖
Who was the other lady?
@@thesloppyjoes Your mom.
...sorry 🤐
Monika Letora 🐒🐱💙
This band is one of the few one's with no boundaries...this is evolution into the dark music
A logical continuation of the fall of hearts... Thank you!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Katatonia; the best band around!!
Katatonia, for ever and ever
One the best "modern metal" band. Music as its finest!
The heaviness reminds me alot of the viva emptiness and the great cold distance vibe.
Yes, that was what came to mind. Returning to roots with a twist.
Yeah I think this is what Viva Emptiness would've sounded like with modern production
Absolutely killer second single, album is gonna be a blast.
OUTSTANDING
It is so on brand for Katatonia to release an album while the world burns down. If we are going down, this band will be my soundtrack on the way.
such a lovely rhythm even after 3 yrs i still diving in this
Yes this was so good!!
Glad to find you here
Keto-tonia
Katatonia, you are deep into my heart. I am glad that I have come across this band.
Since two month a don't stop to listen this album again and again and over again it's my religion this voice break my soul and my world love you jonas
This album will be massive, i loved the dark electronica sound on Lacquer and i'm loving the heaviness of this track
You're a torch to the temple of depression. Love that part Jonas.
COVID-19 - “I’m going to make your lives so miserable you will question if this world is worth living in”
Katatonia - “Hold my beer”
Jajaja, yeah katatonia rules
Hold my semla
Hold my LP
Hold my lacquer*
I would have seen them in 1 hour - so yes, COVID-19 did a fucking bad job...
Currently my favorite Katatonia song.
Por siempre, una de mis bandas favoritas. Marcó toda una etapa de mi vida, son de lo mejor.
Katatonia. Alway be my best
Сижу в карантине, слушаю Кататоньку. Жаль, что нет уже тех самых старых, атмосферных работ, из-за которой полюбились когда-то. Алматы. Казахстан
Whoa digging the Yngie Malmsteen sounding intro 😍
What a beautiful songs!!! I love Katatonia for their melancholic mood, but this powerful attitude has really impressed me. Can't wait for the new album!
My mind my brain my soul is BLOWN AWAY! Man another masterpiece. Amazing. For sure is going to be a next classic. Those rich sounds are perfect. Cant add more words than is PERFECT! EVEN BETTER THAN EXPECTED. Magneficent. Thank you for bring beauty in this bad times. Please all take care and be safe 🤘🤘🤘💜💜💜
I agree....
t.co/Lhe3rAqVaw Ensayo de la banda...
SOOO KILLER THIS TRACK
After the second solo (incredible one!) Jonas starts the chorus with such a beautiful melody with his soft voice. Just wow! This song is incredible!
It's like Katatonia are paying tribute to 80s metal guitar sound in the lead sections.
The production is unbelievable.
@@soullessSiIence yea they really really stepped up since great cold distance. Gotta give the sound engineer so much credit
Heavy Metal Katatonia meets Night is the New Day. Catchy :D

More like, hair-metal Katatonia 11 years back! Still very capable of producing the atmosphere and crazy density even within those simple guitar riffs.
The most melancholic hair metal I've ever heard XD
Sweden gave us Opeth,Katatonia,Meshuggah,Amon Amarth,Soen and many more..thats why we love sweden
Tiamat too... 😥
Perfect, i always listen to them on my car, very fitting clip
Best song of the album. Need more following this way.
I can bet a million fucking dollars that this band won't disappoint you ever Katatonia is a blessing
I LOVE YOU KATATONIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who else is listening and reading the comments at the same time? Wonderful song totally different but still the katatonia sound is there!
Spiros Sofianos I don’t give a flying F* about the comments... don’t need others to validate me liking or not this awesome song 🤘
Artists!!!!
Comments amuse me
Amazing!
Katatonia is taking the metal torch during this quarantinne! Such refreshing and rewarding songs and originality. One of the most original versatile metal styles in recent histories. I must say ! Does not have to be brutal crazy death metal or insane crazy nutty solos styles. They can adapt and to be fresh and new and Katatonia delivers total off the charts original styles of fresh and originality showcasing each instrument in an an amazing mix of music. I’m sold! The future has been stamped!
My god, this combines so much of what I love about heavy metal music, but undeniably retains the essence of Katatonia! Bravo my friends!
Rock n' Roll Mood: On. BUT the voice, the voice saves the day...
Beautiful song!...Song is The Year!
02:51 love this vibe
These guys just get better evey time I hear them what a great heavy prog song.
🔥🔥🔥
Imagine Jonas's and Anders's faces, if someone told them, when they were recording Brave Murder Day, that in 25 years they would produce this
Well... they recorded a 10 minute 80s style goth rock track in 1996, so I don't think they'd be too surprised
@@hex1233 Scarlet Heavens
Omg! I really did before with the fall of heart and I think They'd be more surprised bcz of its complexity and progressivity
@@hex1233 It was only after 2012 that Katatonia began to produce such songs. The last two albums are much more proggy, with well polished production, scattering opethy vibes. December Souls and BMD were rawer, more fitting into the grim atmosphere of the next to come albums
@@hex1233 Scarlett Heavens was recorded in 1994 but yeah, spot on.
What fukn great song. Whole band sounds energised. Jonas voice is just electric.💯💯
Спасибо, Katatonia, в такие не лёгкие дни вы помогаете оставаться на плаву.
Katatonia is the best band in the World! I love all they records and different styles througth the years, and one fact: katatonia are the only ones; that can do something new and totally different and the same time preserv they original, magical, dark, dense way of create pure art! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻🤘🏻😎🙋🏻♂️
Blessings from Panama! 🇵🇦
Katatonia is always awesome!
Love & respect from Bangladesh 🤟🤟🤟
portugal loves katatonia
3:04 damnnn that note. So smooth💓💘
2:03 love this part
What a fresh sound !
So fu***ing good! The best song of this endless Year!
What makes man shiver..
First time listenin' and get only wonderful feelings
Holy shit, it's been so long since any solo has made me "feel"
Absolutely brilliant song! How could I have missed the new release. Shame on my head! I love this song. Thanks Katatonia
Awesomeness
Katatonia is stupidly underrated.
Missed and thank you.
This one sounds like a Ghost song for me a little. I like it! Katatonia will always have a place in my heart!
It's because Ghost have those 80's-ish riffs. This song reminds me a lot of Dokken's "In My Dreams".
Some of these comments. LMFAO. I think if you listen to Swanö, Katatonia, Peter Tagtgren, Hypocrisy, Opeth etc. Etc. Etc. Etc. And really know these guys through the years through their music. You would've learned by now that they follow NO music genre rules. Seriously, where ya been? All these guys incorporate The Cure meets The Police to NIN to Priest to Depeche Mode to Bolt Thrower to Death and a gazillion other types of music and throw it into a blender. They appreciate most all music... If it's good. ;)
Anyhow, this kicks ass!!!!! Can't wait!!! Love where they are going. A great mix so far. Fan since the beginning, cheers guys.
😊
Well said... I love Katatonia but I couldn’t take a Night is the new day part 4. They needed to reinvent themselves like they have always done through the band’s existence...and it is glorious.
I think everyone casually forgets that the core members of Katatonia + Akerfeldt is Bloodbath somehow.
@Patrick Bertlein 43. LMFAO.
Oh yeah, love the DM stuff. Even Bewitched, the first few albums with Blakkheim. Or maybe it was just the first. Look up Dan Swanö interview podcast on RUclips. Super informative, interesting, he did it a few weeks back. It's over 2hrs long. Awesome listen.
Here : ruclips.net/video/4lTxrHMENyE/видео.html
I wonder if there is a term to group these guys in, like the Peaceville Swedes or something? Haha
But I love seeing their influences come through in their music. Åkerfeldt and Swanö are more into 70s prog while Renkse and Nystrom are more into post-punk / goth rock. But they're united by their love of classic heavy and death metal, especially Judas Priest and Morbid Angel.
MINDBLOWING! 🖤🤘
Guitar solos?! 80's heavy metal vibe?! Yet..very very Katatonia like somehow. I DIG IT!
Will be an awesome and diverse album for sure. So excited!
My best friend is from Sweden and he's the one who introduced me to Katatonia many years back. I just love the vibe of these guys. I'm pleasantly surprised by the extended vocal range and lead guitar shredding. Skål Magnus and Katatonia!
The smallest measure of time is the time it took me to like this song and hit the like button.
This band NEVER disappoints!
Really good to hear these guys again.
Love this video! It's totally different from others. These scenes are more like visual contexts in which we can listen to Katatonia. Great!
his voice only gets better and better. And that drummer Jesus!!!
Jonas the voice of sorrow broken heart misery depression n Katatonic activities
One of the very few metal bands, that have the balls (and talent) to change their sound whenever they want and still sound amazing.
Bloody brilliant I can't wait for the album to drop, Jonas sounds better than ever! 🤘
Katatonia’s take on 80s metal, with tasteful guitar flourishes from Anders & Roger and impeccable harmonies from Jonas. Loved Laquer. Love this. Bravo, boys
Yes, classic hard rock influence, but only the best of it
This is the sickest intro I’ve heard in a long time. Holy fuck
THIS SONG IS GREAT 🤘🏽
Much Love From Bangladesh 🤘
Amaaaaazing 🖤 Jonas's voice!!!😍🥰
Sounds so amazing!!!
God this is heaven right now for me!! His lyrics are always on point..
Fingers crossed that more tracks on the album are like this one!
Fucking FRESH.
Amazing how this band never released a bad album and so different one from the other.
This song is so catchy, I hope Katatonia keeps delivering this.......
For me personally Katatonia's best album is LFDGD.... Anyway - what they bring to us is simply great! They evolve, they change, their music will change... For good or for bad... We still love'em and they should have our support... We need them and they need us....
Stay safe guys!
It's never been bad though and seemingly always for the best. This is stsrting their 4th decade of music.
Katatonia has never made a bad album. My least favorites are Tonight's Decision and Discouraged Ones but that's really telling because those albums fucking rip too. Dethroned & Uncrowned I suppose could take the worst slot and that's a good release as well. Best band of all time really.
thank you katatonia
That guitar work 😲
Waiting on new album . Fan from Poland!
New katatonia sound is good
İntro is the Best solo is the Best... Amazing...
