Incorrect the mod does not determine what engine the game will be built on or the graphics or anything just a basis of the gameplay not way before 2017 just 2017
I've played games older than World at war with better sound effects. The original COD for example and the old Day of Defeat on HL1 engine. Sound development was pretty much done before 2008 and there are more examples of better sounds for guns. In this case that argument doesn't old up in my opinion. For some reason game devs almost always skimp on the sound. But Battlefield has always had pretty good sounds.
Well, from a technical point of view its not fair to compare a game from 2008 with a game from 2017... But yeah, Day of Infamy is better in most aspects.
It's not just that. I did this also to show how the sounds advanced over time in WWII games. I imagine if the next COD will be set in WWII, then people will say : it's not fair to compare a AAA game to a game made by a way smaller team. xD
Even if it was a contest, they are on an equal playing-field since cod had much higher budget. Recording and post processing techniques haven't changed for a long time. only the equipment and knowledge has become cheaper and more accessible hence the high quality on an indie game. Doi Objectively sounds better with only post processing seemingly being Saturation/Distortion which means that the sound is very dynamic and realistic. But since equal or more minimal treatment is also done to every other sound, it makes sounds such as footsteps to be really quiet comparatively and you need good headphones to really enjoy the high fidelity of the soundscape and to be competitive. Cod is usually played on a couch with regular tv speakers so they added compression and stereo separation to make it sound bigger with narrow hifi speakers. In cod, footsteps peak at a similar levels as gun sounds do to make sure that everyone can hear them. People associate footsteps, echos and other misc sounds to be quieter so everything sounds a bit off but you can't tell why because your brain makes up for the lack of dynamic range. This way cod sounds are more useful to the player and when everything is playing, it doesn't sound half as bad as it really is on a technical and individual level. Soundscape is more than a sum of it's parts. If both games are made on a 32bit or 64bit engines, then the only limiting factor is the prowess of the dev team when it comes to sound design. Even 16bit might be enough but games during 16 bit time periods used midi and low quality samples because there wasn't enough room to store audio until CDs came around
I guess World at War is pretty old by now so maybe that's why I like the DoI sounds better. Really great job by the DoI guys considering the difference in budget!
So many people are saying "call of duty wins" "days of infamy wins" "call of duty sucks" and I just so badly want to smack these people with a sandal. This is not a contest, this is a comparison of an old game to a new to see if the graphics, sound and animation still hold up, which they surprisingly do.

SUCC yea? and how old is IW engine? yes yes if u want to make game 10 years from the original engine release date u sure will update the engine with new coding. this however the source engine are updated in 2017 with more advanced tecnology as I said before, and the IW engine was updated in 2008 with tecnology less advanced than the 2017 tecnology, nowadays IW engine are far more superior than the IW engine in 2008 with probably comparable to 2017 source engine. However the video isnt fair at all because u dont really compare 2017 game with updated source engine to 2008 game with old engine
Jk Ggezpz the video wasnt necessarily meant to be fair, it was just comapring sounds with similar games, im fairly sure the creator of this video is aware that cod WaW was not made in 2017.
He's settling the rounds in the magazine. If you slow down the animation, you can actually see that the rounds haven't been settled yet within the magazine. Soldiers were often told to hit their magazine on a hard surface to settle the rounds properly before loading them.
Rose Supreme Right but the Thompson was actually unique in the fact that it's bolt didn't need to be pulled back after emptying a magazine, unless using a drum magazine. After emptying 20 or 30 round magazines, the Thompson's bolt remained open
Jeez, many WWII games have been getting it wrong. I have seen in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 where the user pulls the bolt back, pulls the mag out and then loads the new one in. Is that one accurate or wrong?
Chris Janicki They are the closest comparisons available: The Webley was a large caliber, powerful revolver, and the "Magnum Revolver" is just a generic name for the same type, but the last two pistols aren't really a decent comparison.
Visl SDio can you not read all he's saying is that for a game that's on the source engine the graphics look good not that the graphics look better than cod
There's something about older Call of Duty's, especially WaW, that have that nice touch of arcade-y feel blended in with realism that makes it just sooo much more enjoyable.
iV1rus0 It's fair though... also, he's not doing a "contest" here. It's a comparison. CoD was made by a huge team and an enormous budget. DoI is an Indy game made by a small team. Have you ever played Counter Strike 1.6? It is so old, yet weapon sounds are so powerful.

See, I like this review. At first I was all, wow comparing two games that came out at two drastically different times is fair, but instead I feel that this one shows how far that video games in the WW2 shooter genre have come. Great work!
I feel that World at War's weapons sounds are too...silent, not enough echo to give you a feel for how far the sound travels. Like the M1887, Springfield or Thompson are WAY TOO enclosed with not enough sound feedback.
I think a lot more games need gun sounds similar to those in insurgency/day of infamy. Like even in AAA games like R6S the gun sound effects might not be BAD but certainly not good.
Day of infamy 2017 vs World at war 2008... But Day of infamy is an Insurgency mod and both are on the source engine, WAW is on a different engine being the IW engine, IW 2.0 engine from 2005 compared to the Source engine from 2004, so technically WAW has the newer engine and should have been more advanced in a way
Well it kind of is, Day of Infamy has 2004 graphics because it's on a 2004 engine, same with CSGO, the engine was never updates unlike the engine for COD which gets updated every few years so the game can look better. A game from 2017 isn't necessarily going to look and sound better than a game from 2004 if they use the same engine. I'm assuming you've made a game so you can confirm or deny things with actual proof or evidence? If not, shut the fuck up
I don't know why people are complaining saying "oh it's unfair one is nine years older than the other" it's not a competition. it's literally just a video comparing the sounds of guns in two different games.
My opinions on the gun sounds: M2 Flamethrower - WaW M1911 - WaW Walther P38 - DoI Type 14/Luger - DoI Revolver - WaW M1 Carbine - WaW Kar98k - WaW M1903 Springfield - DoI Gewehr 43 - WaW M1 Garand - WaW STG-44 - DoI Thompson - DoI MP40 - DoI Type 99 LMG/Bren - DoI MG42 - DoI M1919 Browning - DoI FG42 - DoI M1918 BAR - DoI Trench Gun - WaW Grenade - WaW Bazooka - WaW Panzerschreck - DoI WaW - 10 DoI - 12
Literally every gun sound from DOI is better. They sound more real and are of so much higher quality. WaW sounds like a bunch of airsoft guns. I know it's obviously your opinion of course and that's fine but I shoot guns on the daily and I really think DOI is so much better.
As alot of people mentioned this game is from an older era, and usually some game companies like to compress and dampen the sound so shooting the gun doesnt become an obstruction to playing
Sir Crusade have you ever fired a gun? Because they Most definitely don't all sound the same. You're literally just making up crappy lies to defend this game. Which I don't know why you would but. Cool cool.
Wow...for once COD sounds almost realistic, by that I mean the M1 Garand. I'm just saying, I mean I'd say Band of Brothers is a good source for what weapons actually sounded like.
Connor Quarmby most guns in CoD don't sound anything like their real life versions, especially the FG42, the guns in DoI however sounds the closest to their real life version, you got the M1 Garand with its longer ping, the FG42 with its insane rate of fire and etc.
"almost realistic" honestly i think not i've fired enough guns to know cod doesnt really sound like the real thing, but heavily filtered and edited sounds
Jeremy Lim I was specifically on about the M1 Garand not anything else. Like I said, I assume Band of Brothers to be a trusted aourcw when it comes to that. Since you know, it was told by the actual people who were there and was made in to a 10 part HBO series. You know this right?
U.F.T assistant Doesn't really matter if it's new, DOI is an indy game made by a small team, whereas CoD is a AAA game made by a huge team and an enormous budget. Ever played Counter Strike 1.6? So old... yet gun sounds are powerful.
Yeah But you can not compare swords withnukes, by that I mean u can not compare 2008 technology with 2017 technology and say (DOI is better sound wise because the developers of WAW suck at making games)
The Thompson fires from an open bolt and it chambers the rounds (puts them into position to be fired) upon pulling the trigger, so what he's doing is resetting the bolt to its open position so that when it fires next, it will chamber the round and fire EDIT: I now realize you're taking about the DOI animation, and I have no clue what that's about. Thompsons were known for reliability, so idk
Not to be a dope, but which are the Day of Infamy sounds are which are Call of Duty World At War sounds? The title is 'Day of Infamy Gun Sounds vs Call of Duty World At War' and the description is 'Call of Duty World At War versus Day of Infamy'.
the sound effects from DoI are just so much betters. I rarely happens for a developer to really get that punch right. You can 'feel' the caliber of the guns
Even though I can tell which is which, it's probably a good idea to have which game is currently showing somewhere, maybe small up in the corner. So that people who are either unfamiliar or just simply interested in history or animation, and not necessarily video games.
Just figured I'd poomt out that the revolver you showed in WaW was a standard colt python type revolver but the 'comparison' was a ww1 British Webly Auto revolver, so it makes natural sense that they would sound and reload differently especially considering that 99% of Webly revolvers were break action and 99% of colt revolvers were side cylinder ejections.

All the CoD guns are so quiet.
Senekenn well It was made in2008. they had some limitations that aren't relevant anymore
because it was made in 2008.
DarkInfernape65 ehhhh the battlefield games still sounded alright.
boznizzle and it's cod. It still has crap gun sounds(mostly because all the iw gun sounds are taken from either paintball or airsoft guns
boznizzle this isn't bf dumbass
I prefer the gun sounds and reload sounds and the reloads in day of infamy.

I would like to see a Red Orchestra 2 vs Day of Infamy comparison.
I think a lot more games need gun sounds similar to those in insurgency/day of infamy. Like even in AAA games like R6S the gun sound effects might not be BAD but certainly not good.
Forget about the sound, look at that beautiful animations
Day of infamy 2017 vs World at war 2008... But Day of infamy is an Insurgency mod and both are on the source engine, WAW is on a different engine being the IW engine, IW 2.0 engine from 2005 compared to the Source engine from 2004, so technically WAW has the newer engine and should have been more advanced in a way
hahahahaha
The irony
Titanfall doesn't look great
That's not how engines work for fucks sake....
If not, shut the fuck up
you deserve more subscribes ☺
I could fart louder than the COD gun sounds.
James Sawley *oh*
Yuk
James Sawley *FART JOKES*
So why do the have the M1 Garand with the ping sound when the clip is ejected?? The ping doesn't happen until the metal clip hits a solid surface.
8:40 wait what 😂
What was wrong with it?
I don't know why people are complaining saying "oh it's unfair one is nine years older than the other" it's not a competition. it's literally just a video comparing the sounds of guns in two different games.
I Like WAW more
Daft same
I like the punchiness to each shot in Day of Infamy! The animations are nice and smooth too!
My opinions on the gun sounds:
M2 Flamethrower - WaW
M1911 - WaW
Walther P38 - DoI
Type 14/Luger - DoI
Revolver - WaW
M1 Carbine - WaW
Kar98k - WaW
M1903 Springfield - DoI
Gewehr 43 - WaW
M1 Garand - WaW
STG-44 - DoI
Thompson - DoI
MP40 - DoI
Type 99 LMG/Bren - DoI
MG42 - DoI
M1919 Browning - DoI
FG42 - DoI
M1918 BAR - DoI
Trench Gun - WaW
Grenade - WaW
Bazooka - WaW
Panzerschreck - DoI
WaW - 10 DoI - 12
what guns did you shoot IRL?
chickenflem none
KillerDud301 i think you might want to rethink your opinion on the gewehr...
Literally every gun sound from DOI is better. They sound more real and are of so much higher quality. WaW sounds like a bunch of airsoft guns. I know it's obviously your opinion of course and that's fine but I shoot guns on the daily and I really think DOI is so much better.
Nolan Campbell big boy here shoots guns on the daily look out!!!
As alot of people mentioned this game is from an older era, and usually some game companies like to compress and dampen the sound so shooting the gun doesnt become an obstruction to playing
Day of Infamy wins hands down. Treyarch better improve their gun sounds for their next installment.
Revive Hans well, It was made in 2008. sure così gun sounds have(not) improved
DarkInfernape65 the sound was a complete copy of Insurgency with a bit of edit from 2014, and the engine were 13 years old.
Revive Hans DOI didn't even sound good. Every gun sounded the same. Besides the bazooka and grenades
Ham Sandwich Little did you know, most guns sound the same when they fire. Dont let Codmunism taint your mind.
Sir Crusade have you ever fired a gun? Because they Most definitely don't all sound the same. You're literally just making up crappy lies to defend this game. Which I don't know why you would but. Cool cool.
What's that music that plays at the end of the video?
Hennessy Blues Darude Sandstorm
COD is better and i love COD
Why did you do the nambu and luger together? they're 2 seperate pistols.
Doi!
I got it 13-9 for Day of Infamy but pretty impressive that WAW that came out in 2008 with weaker audio technology won so many.
Connor Quarmby we're going off on you because you said that CoD sound realistic for once, CoD's weapons don't sound realistic at all.
Amobrero127 apart from the M1 GARAND WHICH IS WHAT I WAS SPECIFICALLY TALKING ABOUT. NOTHING ELSE JUST THE M1
i love how day of infamy just puts detail into their reload animations and there's just cod shoves a rocket into a rocket lancer and it works
Except day of infamy will never be as good as cod waw
DJWeedoz have you played Day of Infamy?
DOI Bazooka and panzerschreck launching and exploding sounds are awesome
so basically, most guns in days of infamy sound th same
Dapper yet Crass You sure you were listening? They each sound unique. In game, you can easily pick out a gun in the distance just based on sound.
You need to get your ears checked
they seem for every class, pistols sound the same, rifles sound the same, etc
if you fire 2 different guns in the same enviorment, they will both sound very much alike.
I love how the m1 carbine sounds like a wind chime in WaW
oh come on .... the only games CoD would win against are on mobile
Vincent Law lol you are probably playing csgo...
lol why do people always use csgo as an insult
why hate on cod?
Jeremy Lim I dunno, it's not even an argument since it's not the best looking game
Sounds like you weren't great at CoD.
The CoD soldier seems to know his way around his guns much more than the other guy.
Day of infamy is waaaaaaaay better
The Omega D3RP Gaming day of infamy is new
U.F.T assistant Doesn't really matter if it's new, DOI is an indy game made by a small team, whereas CoD is a AAA game made by a huge team and an enormous budget. Ever played Counter Strike 1.6? So old... yet gun sounds are powerful.
Yeah But you can not compare swords withnukes, by that I mean u can not compare 2008 technology with 2017 technology and say (DOI is better sound wise because the developers of WAW suck at making games)
game development it's more easely than first.
Edomus What the fuck's an "indy" game
why the animation of Thommy Smacks the Gun with the Mag b4 really reloading?
Ghifary Muhammad I think that is done to fix the spring in the magazine so it lines up, and the bullets actually go in the gun properly.
The Thompson fires from an open bolt and it chambers the rounds (puts them into position to be fired) upon pulling the trigger, so what he's doing is resetting the bolt to its open position so that when it fires next, it will chamber the round and fire
EDIT: I now realize you're taking about the DOI animation, and I have no clue what that's about. Thompsons were known for reliability, so idk
Which WW2 gun would win, MP40 or Thompson (Tommy gun)?
Thompson in stopping power.
MP40 in everything else.
I am rewatching this since I just bought Day Of Infamy. It was on sale yesterday.
4:52 why does he whack the side of the gun with the clip before inserting it??
Even though I can tell which is which, it's probably a good idea to have which game is currently showing somewhere, maybe small up in the corner. So that people who are either unfamiliar or just simply interested in history or animation, and not necessarily video games.
Ya gotta remember that BFBC came out in like 2008 and sounded betta.
imagine a group of german, or japanese soldiers walking up to the sounds of gunfire, only to see a random guy shooting various guns at the sky.
Btw how do you test weapons like this?
I don’t want to sound dumb or anything but is days of infantry for Xbox one?
Man i love the World at war mp40 sound
Nice nice!!! For compare Medal of Honor Airborn VS Red Orcestra 2 or Heroes and Generals
Accuracy: DOI
Childhood: CoD: WaW
